I think that the designers didn't want to create a whole new world from scratch because then they had to create a lot of new species and this is not an easy task. Instead they created only 2 or 3 new species but if we had to deal only with them the game would become boring very soon, so the writers found other ways to add variety by creating rival or ally factions made up from MW species we already know.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up I stopped watching TWD a long time ago (basically after they arrived at that prison) and I had my gripes with the series (the premise doesn't make any sense, I mean the US-Military alone has enough ammunition to kill every US-Citizen several times over and that's just for small-arms, I am not counting missiles, bombs (especially napalm works great on zombies!), grenades etc. and if push comes to shove: You can run over zombies by the hundreds with a damn tank (hell a normal vehicle can do that, too!), not to mention the fact that America is the land of guns, so zombies should worry you guys less than they would worry us in Europe!) hm...would that be a deep enough chasm to make some people turn to crime and piracy? hm...I don't know, it's a difference in opinion but that alone doesn't turn people into savages (otherwise politicians would all be bloodthirsty savages living in caves!) greetings LAX I heartily recommend Max Brooks' book "World War Z" (the book, not the movie. THE BOOK, NOT THE MOTHEREFFING MOVIE!!) for a good look at how a zombie apocalypse could happen anyway. I suspect that the Nexus uprising was over a difference of opinion of how to proceed when the AI finds out that the golden worlds are either garbage dumps or already taken by native Andromedan civilizations. Should we cooperate and try not to step on their toes, or take a suitable world by force? That said, I can't imagine that a splinter group from the AI could hold out very long against a native civilization of similar technological advancement. The Milky Way traitors have practically no support and no reinforcements and would likely be quickly overwhelmed.

For example Sloane's "pirate harbor" has angarans hanging around, so they probably get some from natives. However like any frontier outlaws they will be dealt with eventually. The only question is who will do it. Apparently angara's grip on the sector is quite weak, even though their homeworld is supposedly there (was there anything on Kett? Wouldn't be surprised if their homeworld is far enough from Heleus.)

It is probably divided because the bulk of AI has already been there for so long and nothing turned out as promised. A lot of bad things could have happened, the "promised worlds" could have been not what they were promised. Kind of like how in Interstellar the worlds ended up being uninhabitable. The Kett could also have thrown a wrench into AI's plans. Probably a few things went wrong. Add in enough time for Krogans to have established a colony world and it is clear that we arrived much later than everyone else. Whether that is because our ARK arrived late or that humanity was to be the last to be awoken out of our stasis pods is unknown. I really hope it was long enough for the Genophage to be cured. I know that we left before the cure was made, but we as actual players already cured it. We lost Mordin for it. Plot line needs no retracing.

Because there wouldn't be much of a game if everyone loved each other and the expedition didn't encounter any problem.

I think some dev said in an interview that the kett are visiting/invading, like us, but that their empires core is in somewhere else in Andromeda.

Maybe it somehow leaked out that the Reapers were set to wipe out all the Milky Way races. I think that's the primary reason for the AI, and the knowledge is probably only known to some of the top members.
Imagine a ship full of Krogan finding out that their home was potentially wiped out while they were in cryosleep for 600 years. That would be enough reason for them to resent the AI. Most of them likely wouldn't have left if they known their homeworld(s) were going to be wiped out.

My prediction so far is that the Initiative finds a way for the Krogan to better cope with the Genophage, not just struggle with it (that didn't really work) or cure it (that comes with risks). Same with pretty much any major trilogy dilemma. So it'd be funny to see a Milky Way vs Andromeda game where each declare a superiority over each other. Maybe too varied stuff to deal with, but the idea is intoxicating.

And this would theoretically be a great reason for Bioware to keep so much story under wraps.

I really hope the cannon they chose was the middle finger to star child option and that the top races were all wiped out except for the Geth who hid beyond the Perseus Veil.
