I'm playing through it at this time around after finishing Inquisition. It's about two years ago since i last played it and to be honest... it feels so good for such a relatively old game! The only thing i actually liked "less" (but thankfully there is a mod for that) is the looks of the NPC's! So awkward It seems to me that NPC's are mostly randomly generated with some minor tweaks and be done with it. BUT that doesn't interfere with the gameplay though. You know as a gamer that Gameplay > graphics! They did a nice job on the main characters though! Also enemies are awesome but, like regular NPC's (towns folk, side quest givers) are sometimes weird. BUT to my surprise with only a few mods the game can look good and be enjoyable today. Below a few mods that to me became a necessity if i play it. I do recommend that new players play it atleast halfway (if not completely) through without them except the 4GB patch. These are the most important that i know of. 4GB patch Dragon Age Redesigned (this will change alot of the characters and NPC's awkward faces. yaaayy) Improved Atmosphere (This adds more 'life' to the game but also fixes alot of stuff. Also new materials, animations, armor tints, items. Shops only sell or buy certain items (for instance: bartenders will only sell/buy ingredients, potions, gifts and the like while armor smithy's will only buy/sell weapons and armor). PT's Vibrant Colors (more colors for hair and eye) More Hairstyles (obvious) Tucked Hair (Was needed for Dragon Age Redesigned if "aestethics version" is chosen). No Helmet Hack (for hiding the ugly helmets/caps for rogues and mages) Golden Egg (moneyyys. If you played through it multiple times you just wanna rush through it and buy the best gear as fast as possible). If you have other mods, don't hold back and post them. Would be nice if they are compatible with above mentioned. THANKS the maker uuhmm 'modders' for making these!

I don't know if these are going to be compatible, but... I like bug fixes, because there are a lot of strange bugs with different talents and some weapons. Dain's Fix Packwww.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/4384/?Dragon Age Rules Fix Packwww.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/1601/?They are modular, so you can pick what fixes you want for the most part. I use a mixture of both, dain's for the ones he supplies, then Rules for the others. Detailed Tooltipswww.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/248/?That is probably one of the best things around if you care about the nuts and bolts of powers, as it will show you formulas for various things when you read the description, instead of just vague "this gives you some health." Advanced Tacticswww.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/181/?Modifies and fixes a few things with the tactics. Improves it a lot. Also allows you to automate party rogues so they always try to backstab, although I leave that off. Character Respec Modwww.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/14/?Mainly this is good for party members you pick up late if you don't like how the game builds them. Can also be used for the Warden if you have an issue with your build. One thing to keep in mind is that it will put your fade bonuses into the main attribute pool so it is possible to get "impossible" builds with it. Good or bad depending on your point of view. I don't really use this much, but it is nice to have when needed. AddItemImproved + AddItemWithMaterialImprovedwww.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/3708/?Simple script that allows you to give items with console. Mainly I use this for testing stuff, and then pretty much once every run after Gaxkang if he doesn't give me Fade Wall. Have various graphics ones, mostly texture packs and importantly the material tint change (makes metals look less ridiculous). I would need to look up the names.

Improved Atmosphere is a must, as well as the ZDF dialogue fix. You need to delete a couple of files (very easy to do) to make them work together. It's all explained in the info, but there are dialogue discrepancies that ZDF addresses.
I also like 5th dog slot, so dog becomes an extra and you can still have 4 characters with you.
Skip the fade in case you're sick of doing the fade at the Circle.
For me the Qunari Update is vital as it makes all Qunari look like they do in DA2. Much better consistency with the series.
And this one is entirely vanity driven, it's Dalish Elves Beautified. The Dalish look great with this mod, and you can use them as the elven presets in the CC. You can make a great looking Warden with that.
Oh and RLs Witcher Emporium provides lots of outfits, I always put my female Warden (if I have one) and Leliana in them. They look pretty badass and like they're going into a serious fight, and are a vast improvement on the vanilla armour. Zev looks good in them too.

Gonna keep track of this since I'm thinking of doing a playthrough again for the first time in years and there seems to be quite a few mods mentioned here already that are new to me. Dragon Age Redesigned (at the very least for all the non-party NPC's) and Skip The Fade were must-haves back when I last played DAO.

I already have Improved Atmosphere and other stuff running, and it just wouldn't settle with all of those. You might want to try putting it on the backburner and experimenting with the others first.

Here's a few I won't play without, Console_-_Add_Points-347 Console Add Points: Sometimes you want to mount an item but can't because your Attrib's are too low. This is the answer. Skip the FadeSkip The Fade: Thank goodness for this one. I hated The Fade. Warden ArmoursWarden Armours: They look good on male or female. Gonna check out the one's listed above too, they look interesting and thanks for posting those groupies.

I've tried most of the mods suggested. Improved Atmosphere, however, always seems to cause the "invisible armor" glitch, particularly at Soldiers' Peak. Do others have this problem or have I somehow screwed up the installation of IA?

Hi there - didn't want to create a new topic just for this, but; I recently tried to install the Toolset on Windows 10 and had an install failure.
Has anyone sucessfully installed the toolset on a Windows 10 PC (clean install), DA: Origins is present.
Any feedback or advice would be appreciated. I'm not a modder, I just use it to "fix" things, like changing the + x% healing received to something useful and making sure the Ancient Elven Boots appear...

Hey - I'm just glad to hear that people are still playing this game at all, honestly! But... you're right. A ton of the NPCs look pretty horrible. It's probably weird to drop in with no other notice and just do a gratuitous self-promo, but hey, life is short and we all want a better Origins. I'm actually realistically remastering the game's faces by hand one at a time, just for the sake of giving everybody a better alternative to what's out there currently. Check it out if you want. It's not exactly released yet (that's a long way off) but I'm always taking new alpha testers.

The traveler mage who ambushes you with Zevran looked too much like Bella in Redcliffe, etc. The risk you run is making a minor NPC look too interesting and people a disappointed you can't do anything with them. As far as people still playing the game, I believe it's because it still has the most compelling story of the three games, outmoded graphics not withstanding.

Thanks for this thread! DA: O was my first PC game, and let's just say I got a little bit too enthusiastic when introduced to the world of modding so my game became really bogged down with redundant/conflicting/unnecessary mods. I did the same thing with Skyrim . I ended up backing up my past mods, but I'm starting from scratch on a clean slate. I'll be sure to look through the listed mods here!

The Winter ForgeMy favorite crafting mod. Transfer your favorite enchantments to compatible items of your choice. Create new items with customized enchantments, using resources gained from analyzing (and destroying) other enchanted items. Create runes with customized enchantments. If you're diligent, this can get fairly overpowered, but it does take work. This is fairly complex and has its own user manual, available from the link on the mod page.

Oh my god half the fun for me is modding games! My husband just doesn't get it and thinks I'm wasting my time but I don't care, I love changing things up! Companion tweaks (I like to stay lore-friendly), adding weapons & armor, and improving immersion are my top picks for mod types.

There's a mod I recommend either not installing... or at least install with caution - Qwinn's Unofficial DA:O Fixpack. I managed to rush through everything I needed before starting the Landsmeet - the Alienage, the rest of my side quests, etc. - but right before the Landsmeet began, I neglected to save. It's a big mistake, because I later found myself stuck with the infamous game-breaking glitch of having Alistair going missing, replaced by an invisible Loghain instead. When addressing Alistair at Redcliffe Castle during the Final Battle, Arl Eamon would instead address a Loghain that isn't there (except for his voice...).
I was terrified, of course, that I had to start all over again. Fortunately, I have a backup save just before the end of the "Captured!" quest, and thanks to Google magic and Nexus Mod forums, and a little workaround with the "runscript zz_den_debug" command to jump to the Landsmeet plot point, I eventually found out that the "Qwinn unofficial fixpack" was to blame for the whole conflict. Not sure which mod of mine it clashed with (probably ZDF Dialogue Fix, as I don't have many other mods that affect dialogue and companion animation cues), but god, that was a close shave. It's probably just me and a minority of others that face this incredibly horrible glitch that forces Loghain on you as a companion, but all the same, I hope it would provide caution to others.
Gotta hate how glitchy the vanilla game can be though. The reason I installed Qwinn's pack in the first place was to fix some of the weapon effects that didn't have any actual effects in-game (like +15% healing). It sucks that I might have problems with combat now that I've removed this, but I think I'll suck it up rather than have my game break on me.
It's 3am now where I am, and I have a whole lot of (okay, maybe just 6 or 8) uncompleted side quests (that I've wasted the night completing) to look forward to in the morning. Sigh. How annoying. I even took extra time at the camp to spend the last moments with my companions, ensuring I've selected all their dialogue options. Now I have to do it all over again.

Okay, I figured this out back in the days of the old official forum, and of course I forgot to save the explanation, so now I'm having trouble making it work again: I got a mod (Loincloth fashion, to be specific), the mod includes all sorts of new items with "new" textures. How do I make those textures show up for use in the toolset after installation. Some stuff I've installed, it does it automatically (stuff from the RL's Fashion Bizarre, for example, it happened as soon as the mod was installed), but I know I had trouble making this work for the Warden armors in the past, now I'm having trouble again. Anyone know what I'm missing?

I use and enjoy a variety of mods, not the same for every game. However, there are some I consider essential and am listing them behind spoiler tags. • dance_party and dance_party2 • Even More Advanced Tactics • Level50 • Lelianas True Sacred Ashes Armor • Morrigan Restoration Patch • Morrigan Ritual • No Helmet Hack 1.6 • Slink’s se RAVAge: adds random enemies the first time you enter an area (once fought a drake at Tower of Ishal - or was that a young dragon?). Also adds unusual items. These additional enemies vary from one game to the next. They can appear in the Fade and in other people's quest mods. • Steal tactic • Universal Dye Kit • These are small mods I use all the time and combined into one: All_Games.override (created in DAOMM for my convenience, since I use them in every game) - Improved Warden's Oath and Alistairs Oath - IWO, Amulet, Asala upgrade, companion talk everytime, ench robes mod, Female Stud Armour closed, Jowans Intention fix, DA mutator, neutral_teeth, Nug Quest Fix, Sleep til dawn - dog, a Leliana morph, and Shaperate rewards fix. • several different character creator related ones - Preferred items in one single .override file • Lockbash when not playing as a rogue • Trying the Human Commoner Origin (w/ optional clothing and level50 and selected EMAT file) plus ARR compatibility pack. Used DAO ModManager to create a single override file combining HCO, Level50, RLS HCO items, and an Even More Advanced Tactics to avoid compatibility issues. Don't know why at first I got an error message, but combining them fixed it. • NBaio - natural bodies all in one • No Ground Rings (no conflicts as far as I know). • Sleep Until Dawn • Spiders & Knives - not always but is a useful little quest around Lothering. If played successfully you get a place to store your goods early without needing a separate mod for the Camp. • ZDF (w/ compatibility adjustments depending on other mods used)
Alistair romance specific • usually use Improved Romance Scenes - Alistair but am trying out Alistair Revised Romance • Alistair's Dark Ritual by Kajana nx 3981 with compatibility override • Alistair's Rose, stays with warden in Awakening 3401 • DahliaLynn’s The Royal Wedding 1839 • Dahlia's First Night (Alistair) • Sleep Until Dawn – Alistair’s nightmare (romance)
Zevran Romance Scenes and Leliana Romance Scenes with those romances
Finally, if you want to add companions I can recommend Ser Gilmore and Karmas Origins Companions. I started a playthrough with Meranne's Dwarven Companions and like it so far.

A-ha! I was so close, made it work. Not sure if it's how I did it before or not, but I had to copy the files from the main Addin directory to the "DEMO" Addin directory. Not sure if it's what I did before, but it did the job and I didn't lose any of the other added textures either. Now I just need to make sure to make a note of it this time, if this forum ever decides to close, too...
