Looks like I expected it to look, which is good.
I wanna see how long I can last sticking to the ground, though.

Not to derail the topic, but are there submachine guns? The Andromeda vid with Liam did not classify Submachine as a main weapon type?

They still don't explain how there is a complete distinction between SP and MP. What do you mean? Not to derail the topic, but are there submachine guns? The Andromeda vid with Liam did not classify Submachine as a main weapon type? SMGs are grouped together with the pistols now.

I actually hope to be more involved in the multiplayer this time around. I stopped with ME3 because my Xbox broke sometime after launch, and I never replaced the trilogy when I moved to PS3/PS4.
Seems like a lot of people had a lot of fun with it. I had some good memories with friends myself, but everyone kinda broke away after awhile. Weren't really the MP crowd.

Love seeing the color wheel, also. Any shallow customization in an MP experience for a singleplayer game with a character creator is legitimately appreciated. I kinda like to imagine my MP characters as their own characters.
Also why I'm hoping they don't listen to the idea of naming the MP characters like in Inquisition. I hate that. I don't want to play as those losers, I'll make my own guy, tyvm.

They still don't explain how there is a complete distinction between SP and MP. You can play only in SP and not even touch MP and it will still be the same result as if you played MP then back to SP, excep for a few minor bonuses you can earn if you do. There is strike team misions in SP which you can go yourself or send hired troops (saved into the server). The APEX strike team missions can be reloaded and played with friends in MP, the other ones are only for SP. Playing MP is completely optional and won't impact the ending or the fate of any characters, is just more fun for those who wanna try it

The old galaxy map theme grew on us over three games. It was an amazing composition, and I think it was one of the composer's favorites as well. I don't think it's gonna get topped, tbh.

I guess alpha's these days have shadows, final textures, UI and fully functional gameplay elements. Real alpha footage would never see the light of day it would be so ugly. It hit an absurd extreme with DAI where they claimed that basically every bit of pre-release footage was "pre-alpha"

If that were the case, all of the assets would mostly be completed, then it would just be a matter of adding shadows and such for the trailer, even if they aren't fully implemented into the game itself. Just an idea. Dunno how plausible that is. MP and SP tend to be separate in the development though. GTAV and MGO3 are a few examples off the top of my head. Extreme examples, imho, since they weren't even released alongside the main game. As far as I know with Metal Gear Online, the team that worked on it were on the other side of the world, in LA, while MGSV was being developed by Kojima and his team in Japan.

I just saw this pop-up in my Youtube feed and posted in the MP forum. I expect we'll see a lot more people who participated in the EA GameChangers play testing getting the OK from Bioware to start putting up videos in the run up to public demos as PAX. Not sure if this is new or not. The footage apparently is from early December. Some interesting info about the prestige levels, loot, and minor info on modes.
- Prestige levels now unlock permanent stat bonuses per class (such as increased shields and reduced power recharge time). Each kit has a separate prestige level.
- Multiplayer progress is now tied to your Origin/EA account. MP progress is [NOT] synced across all platforms.
- There are no concrete story tie-in requirements to play multiplayer (i.e. galactic readiness from ME3). It's now purely optional, although Bioware has stated that there will be loot "rewards" for playing MP, which can give you items in single player (there are no specific multiplayer-only items, at the time).
- The focus is on 4-player co-op only. No plans for any development of adversarial (PvP) modes.
- The kits share the same logic of the classless system in the single-player game, so you will see a lot more "mixed" classes (the ultra-rare Human Kineticist was a popular character in play testing according to a poster on reddit. Confirmed that they are Common, Uncommon, Rare, & Ultra-Rare kits.
- Appearance editing is similar to ME3. There are 3 texture levels to edit, a pattern, and a pattern color. You cannot edit faces.

They have to do different interactables and things like checkpoint sorta stuff. Enemy spawn stuff. Things that are "simple" and far more reflective of the game being in its beta stage. To call that alpha is disingenuous. Almost all game companies do it now and it bothers me. Just a gripe.

Though, there is a lot of re balancing and tuning that comes with MP experiences, so it's not like they don't have to do any hard work. Making MP work is often tougher than SP, because a SP game can sometimes get by on things completely irrelevant to the game, like Walking Dead with its writing, or something similar. MP has to be solid gameplay that you can go to endlessly. And the MP team has to work with what the SP team gives them, even if it's not built explicitly for MP. They might have just been super early in their end of development. Maybe it's not technically the same as "Alpha" for SP, but depending on how much work they had ahead of them at the time this footage was recorded, it could've been slightly more accurate than it lets on.

That's fair. I didn't meant to imply the MP was as simple as copy+paste a bunch of SP stuff. I suppose my gripe stems from people/fans not knowing enough about game development and assuming that beta footage is basically final product footage, when most games probably spend more time than any other stage in beta because that's basically where all the kinks get worked out. Alpha is probably their way of avoiding that. Still bugs me though.

I know it should be a simple A > B deal, but sometimes the way companies word it makes it sound like Alpha is close to release, and I have to remind myself that that's not the case. Especially since ME is coming out in a week, and this is the first time we're seeing this "Alpha footage". So I get where you're coming from. It's a bit shady. Bioware works for EA now, though, so it's to be expected, unfortunately.
