For anyone who's learned spoilery info so far, I have one question: can SAM be removed/deactivated?
I ask because I feel like it's a kind of acid test for whether the game is going to be any more or less like an RPG than ME2 or ME3. Back when I played ME2, I felt EDI was a big sticking point in the game for me. In prior, more RPG-focused games it would have been possible to sabotage the entire EDI plot thread and demand that the AI be removed from the Normandy, thus ending EDI's role in ME3 before that game even arrived.
It sounds like SAM is similar to EDI, so again I'm back to wondering if we have the freedom to play the Ryder character as anti-AI (or VI), or if that element of the story is going to be forced on all players again.
I don't really hold out much hope that you can get rid of SAM, especially since review sites are now commonly referring to ME:A as a "space shooter", dropping any pretence that the franchise is even trying to retain RPG elements :3
Anyhow, I was just wondering about the SAM thing.

Don't know yet. I'll ask. Edit: this will pretty much tell us. Hope they answer.

It sounds like SAM is similar to EDI, so again I'm back to wondering if we have the freedom to play the Ryder character as anti-AI (or VI), or if that element of the story is going to be forced on all players again. If SAM is required in order to upgrade powers/abilities, it seems unlikely you could unplug him. Otherwise, you're left with the base abilities. Based on how I saw ME2, removing EDI should have led to an automatic game over. She was crucial in certain areas. She was not similarly crucial in ME3 so I guess maybe you could have chosen to have Adams unplug her between games so that she isn't used in ME3.

In prior, more RPG-focused games it would have been possible to sabotage the entire EDI plot thread and demand that the AI be removed from the Normandy, thus ending EDI's role in ME3 before that game even arrived. You mean, the way you could throw Morrigan out of the party in DA:O? Oh, wait....

Whoops! Meant to say Alistair. (I think I typed Morrigan because I just ran into her in DAI again.)
Anyway, the point is that sometimes you can do stuff and sometimes you can't. Doesn't make it less of an RPG.

SAM is what makes you the pathfinder and also I believe what gives you the ability to change profiles.
I'd say the possibility of an option to get rid of it or turn it off is close to zero.

I just find whole thing with SAM really creepy, but it really seems like we are stuck with AL in our head.

I won't mind so much if SAM is tied to the story and at some point tries to take control of you. That might be interesting, and ultimately would lead to you getting rid of it. Or maybe if SAM is supposed to be the player, that would work. It needs to be well written though, otherwise I'm going to spend the entire game glaring silently at SAM like I did EDI Drat, now I'm having EDI flashbacks. Seriously, why didn't they at least provide an option for being openly hostile to her, even if she still had to stay onboard? Okay, I'll shut up now.

I wonder why any thread in this forum ends up in ranting about racism. Don't you have anything else on your mind?

It is a myth that older RPG's offered a ton of choice. In older games, choice mostly means being able to kill most NPCs. That is not really meaningful choice, is it?
