My buddy who is a big Mass Effect fan as well just introduced me to Star Citizen. It's basically everything No Man's Sky could have been. It also seems to be a much larger scope of what Mass Effect is looking to achieve in terms of exploration.
Check out the video below, but I really think Mass Effect Andromeda could have learned a thing or two in terms of seamless transitions from space to ship to planet to rover. (flying the tempest does not seem to far fetched anymore) I really hope that Mass Effect's exploration and scope only continues to expand and improve over the years while incorporating good story telling. Going open world is not a bad thing if done right.
Also, Hey look, Bioware, there's a gun on that rover....

The thing about Star Citizen is that it's been in development for about 40 years or so and they have the ability to put a lot of resources into things that a normal company might not be able to pay much attention to due to time constraints. Still it does have some really cool stuff like being able to manually dock into space stations which are all hand crafted. It really makes the world feel more realistic.

The problem with Star Citizen is that such a game could never get made outside of pretty much the exact circumstance that Chris Roberts has right now.
It's so big in scope and cost that no publisher would ever approve of this game because of the massive risk that it would be.
Due to the scope and cost of it as well, you pretty much had to be legendary as a game creator in order to get that many people willing to hand over that much money.
On top of that, it's been in development for like 5 years and it's not coming out this year. We might get the 3.0 alpha late 2017.

In exchange, you know what Star Citizen could learn from Andromeda?
Actually being released.

I've sort of followed it for a long time now without actually buying into it and I'd say if you want to play it just be cautious because it has had a very troubled development. Personally I have no faith in it but if someone finds it interesting I'd suggest just getting the cheapest package and not buying into any promises, only buy what they fully deliver on and don't trust that what they show in a demo will make it into the game.

Bioware could borrow a page out of their book for procedurally generated planets and space, though. Hand crafted layouts and then use procedural tech to pad space in between the hand work, or extend past it for larger environments, or use it for dynamic enemy bases on sidequest planets, or whatever.
They can't go all the way with it though, since they're beholden to stock holders, have to keep an actual budget, and have to stick to a release date; these are all things Star Citizen doesn't have to do. I could easily see SC hit $300 million for game development alone before it even sees the light of day; that's summer blockbuster movie money.

There's no writers on Star Citizen and it shows. It's an impressive technical and system-design feat, but it's nothing truly appealing and BioWare is smart business wise not to touch it.

Star Citizen isn't the core of the game where the story takes place; Star Citizen is supposed to be some sort of EVE Online/Planetside/Star Wars Galaxies type deal where you can do what you want within the confines of the lore. Squadron 42 is their separate but still kinda the same standalone game that would be focusing on the story.

If you want near seamless planetary-space transitions, Play Elite: Dangerous.
I'm fine with it not being in ME:A as it's not a space simulator, It's a Story RPG with a space setting. For my Space Sim needs I play Elite:Dangerous and for my story and shooting people while having romances I play Bioware games.

Star Citizen has been played up against every other space game the past several years. I remember people debating whether to buy Elite Dangerous for £30 or wait for SC. Well, Elite Dangerous is a great game and an amazing immersive experience while SC remains a putative pleasure in a threadbare alpha demo form. People have pumped in thousands and thousands for a pipe dream. I think buying imaginary digital ships for thousands is a very unhealthy thing, it's like kickstarter gone loopy. I really hope SC comes into reality but it seems a lot like the Delorean of PC games.
So, yeah, agree with the poster who said SC could learn from Andromeda in that it actually will be released!

Lots of ignorant posts. MAE has been in development longer than Star Citizen. Haven't DAO been in development for 7 years? On top of that, Cloud Imperium Games started with a few people, they had to build a company from scratch. They are trying new and technologically very ambitious things. They are developing two games at once, one is an MMO and the other a story driven, cinematic campaign in the vein of Wing Commander (yes, they have writers), with performance capture, starring people such as Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Gillian Anderson and Mark Hamill. I could go on and on.
Yes, it's a long development cycle but for a game(s) like this it's par for the course. The only difference is we knew about it pretty much since its inception, which is why it seems long to us, unlike other games, where publishers announce a project only when the game is already a lot further in development.

SC looks fine, surely. But MEA isn't a space simulator. And thank god for that. It makes it possible to focus on the core of Bioware: story and characters. And gameplay (a little).

Why cant Mass Effect: Andromeda have seemless planetary-space transitions?. Why shouldnt Mass Effect: Andromeda play up, indulge in its space faring setting rather than not at all?. The two arent mutally exclusive. Mass Effect can have both elements. But you cant deny having seemless planetary-space transitions would add so much to the game, little details like this, attention to detail adds so much, add to the immersion. I think it would have been awesome to have that in the game. I mean i remember when i saw the footage of what was to be Free Radical's PS360 cancelled Star Wars: Battlefront 3 and it had seemless planetary-space transitions, and that game was not a space sim. The player could take off from the surface and continue the fight in space or vice versa. And it looked a right blast, adding a whole other dimension to things, new gameplay, more immersion etc... And there's no reason it couldnt have done the same for Andromeda. You'd have a lot of possibilities. Like what about somethling like space/orbital combat, dogfighting or orbit to ground combat as well etc etc. But in general how cool would that be to pilot through the seemless planetary-space transitions to and from the Tempest, instead of it being a cutscene or fade to black. Like this suppose to be next-gen, there's no reason this stuff has to be a cutscene anymore. Let us play it, let us interact instead. Games are about fun after all.

A fool and his money, as they say. Why? I haven't spent a penny on this game yet. I might buy it if it comes close to what they promised, probably will really because some of it fresh concept. If you pre-ordered MEA, then your quote applies.

It is clearly not.
