Personal History : Former Alliance Marine, private military contractor. Fought in several conflicts against batarian slavers and pirates in Attican Traverse. Worked with private military contractor specializing in anti-terrorism and hostage rescue.
Reason for joining : Offered a spot by a recruiter due to technical expertise and combat experience. With no surviving family ties to speak of and few emotional attachments, he accepted the offer.

Currently he has trouble getting an adjuncty, part-timey position; he'd jump at an opportunity to teach at a kindergarten, so that he can eat. Once he eats, he'll try to make a couple of publications, and try to get tenure preferably in one of the Golden Worlds, before he's 100 years old, so that he can live less like a homeless vagabond, and even have sad fantasies from time to time, about making a contribution to his discipline.

Though by this time the publication environment is so overloaded, that VIs have taken on editorial duties, to cope with the relentless torrent of uninspired CV-filler papers. There's quite a bit of suspicion, that the selection mechanism works randomly.

Personal Hystory:
Nihol is everything a Krogan should appear: a big, scarred and mean-looking Tuchanka’s native in his prime. But while he can crush skulls between thumb and index (and he did), his true calling has been science since he was a little whelp even smaller than a Varren. Being Tuchanka the wasteland that it is, in time Nihol focused himself to the biological problems of the renovation of the soil and the recovery of the desert planes: to the point that ecosystems are now his bread and Varren roasted legs (he has a degree in biology and a master’s degree in genetics.)
Unfortunately, not even Nihol could escape his blood: because of the centuries spent on Tunchanka, he is used to consider the most extreme solutions first: somehow justifiable, considering the hellhole Tuchanka is. On the other hand, and comprehensibly, no one in the Milky Way wanted to finance researches to make Maws more docile (to be used as ecological machines), nor ways to make Krogan more resilient than they already are (to better resist the condition of his home planet).
And so, bounty hunting provided a flexible and efficient way to earn the credits Nihol needed to support his researches: his meal and research tickets rarely gave him problems, especially after receiving some Graal’s flechettes and a neural shock.
Ferried to Andromeda as the best way to create for the Nakmor clan a new home (should one be impossible to find), he asked to be assigned to the Hyperion because of the fascination he harbor to the genetic augmentation the Alliance reserves to its soldier. In Andromeda, he intends to use that work as a frame to better the Krogan condition as a whole, and as a comparative method…
He also plans to seed his too much loved Maws spores on the first inhabitable planet he will find, and spent some centuries studying them…
The clan elders hope against hope that one day some female will be able to headbutt some sense into him, but for now no one has been successful.

background: a young child, only 8 or 9 years old, hides in the vents of the citadel. The vent children hear everything but are never heard. they see everything but are never seen. they hear a promise of a land far away, filled with riches, they do not realize that the promised land is only for those selected, those with the skill to make the trip successful and therefore worth taking. All of this is lost to the vent children, who seek the land they hear of promised to others, and are so scared and alone that they would take any chance to escape to such a place.

the boy, overhearing two of the freighter pilots talking about the shipment, sneaks quietly out of the vents and onto a shelf in the cargo hold behind some crates, hold himself in the fetal position for the duration of the flight, and sneaks out, finally, onto the nexus. He is not seen before he finds the vents of the nexus, so familiar to his old home, so comfortable to him. he survives the next year watching the nexus finish construction, stealing lunches from the workers, and eventually the arks and nexus begin to move for their maiden voyage. the boys heart pumps as he watches stars drift into the distance. the voyage has begun and nearly everyone save some few krogan are in cryo stasis. a day passes, and the boy feels hunger, he searches the ship for any sign of movement. another day, not a sound has been heard. the boy wakes the third day to pain in his stomach. he has found a water pipe and managed a trickle from it to sate his thirst. he tries filling his stomach with water but it does not to sate his hunger. finally a week has passed. the boy has given up hiding and moving through vents. he collapses in an open hallway. hours pass when a krogan finally notices something on the serveillance cameras, some dark shadow in the corner not there before. he does to investigate and finds the boys body. near lifeless.

the krogan scoops the body up and tries to feel for a pulse. its so faint and the krogan skin so thick and insensate that he presumes death. he starts to head for the airlock to dispose of the body when the boy regains consciousness. the boy takes one second note of his situation and freaks out. he pushes himself up off of a horrifying massive fist turns to see the krogan startled bearing its teeth, the boy screams and lands the most solid hit of his life square between the krogans eyes. Even such a small weak boy, he managed some substantial force with that lucky blow, with real momentum, and staggered the heavy krogan, the boy then bolts down the hall but doesnt make it to the corner before he collapses and faints again. the krogan looks at the boy and wonders at his strength, for such a small thing. the krogan decides this boy deserves a real shot at life, he has proven his strength. the krogan sees no other option... he begins scanning the stasis pods for older citizens, those who are known organ donors, those who would sacrifice themselves for a young life, and, yes, those the krogan sees as weak and expendable to the intiatives purpose.

the krogan makes a selection. he pulls a person from their stasis pod and gives them a quick merciful death and sends them to the airlock. the krogan feeds the boy and quickly throws him in the now vacant stasis cell. maybe the krogan will have some explaining to do on arrival, but the decision has been made.
