He was dishonorably discharged, not dead. Where did you see that? Don't get me wrong, it's just cause with the ingame dialogue option talking about "loss" it does sound indeed like he's dead, I mean I'd like something else to have happened but it was expected.

The whole context of the conversation is about people dying, and I'm sure that he was discharged from N7, back in the Milky Way.

I saw the video and it could have meant a number of things from friends dying. I'm saying this from the codex entry that was posted and it had nothing to do with N7, Alec was demoted from pathfinder hence kid Ryder being promoted. The game is out in a few days though so we'll see..

It does sounds to me too like he was dishonorably discharged from the military because he was researching AI (Artificial Intelligence), and that's illegal in the Milky Way.

Yeah,he got a dishonorable discharge from the Alliance, not the AI, which you can't be dishonorably discharged from because it isn't a military.

That's clearly talking about pre-AI service history.

Matter of fact I'm reading the Nexus Rising and he was still in a very high position and well respected:

3. That's clearly talking about pre-AI service history. No, it's not. He still held an N7 position before they left for Andromeda. Having been a part of N7 previously would still carry weight. A DD wouldn't change that.

And I doubt his name would still 'hold weight' if he was dishonorably discharged before Andromeda leave. He still had a pretty in-tact and respected reputation.

Being a N7 has nothing to do with the Andromeda Initiative hierarchy. What matters is his status as Pathfinder for the Ai. Alec might have been discharged from the Alliance, but that wouldn't change his N7 level, or that other people outside the Alliance wouldn't treat him as one. He might lose his right to officially work as an Alliance soldier, but he's still N7 ranking because N7 is not a position, it's training level. It means you were able to achieve the badassest skill level recognized as a soldier.
You can consider the same thing with Kai Leng, he has been dishonorably discharged, but his status as an N7 soldier remain, he didn't fall to a N6 or N5.
Besides, nothing in the game suggests that Dad Ryder will be "discharged" from the Ai (because it's not a military organization). As we can see from the videos released, something happens to him (implied to be very bad), and SAM mentions that whatever it was turned out to be extremely hazardous for him. So we can assume he was either killed or is MIA (and everyone is assuming he's gone).
Considering he also developed an Artificial Intelligence to use in the Initiative, and that he loves to follow protocols, there isn't any reason (yet) to believe something remotely similar to a military discharge happens to him through the course of the game.

I really hope he doesn't die early in the game, but that's the way it's looking. I was hoping to build (or burn) a relationship with him over the course of the game. I also wanted to see a scene where the youthful protagonist is overwhelmed and so DadRyder has to jump in to save the day.

In game you also see them allude to Alec attempting to interface with the Remnant interface and it going poorly. Alec is either dead or injured. Or my pet theory Johnny Depp in Transcendence.

Ah I see, I just thought otherwise from what leaks told me. So Ceoldoren is most likely right lol I don't think he's dead though, maybe lost or like others said, MIA.

Yeah, how could Alec Ryder have been dishonourably discharged for conducting AI Research, when the various briefings for the Andromeda Initiative show that they knew about SAM and that they intended to use the AI for the Pathfinder project?
The codex entry therefore must be about his termination from the Alliance for conducting illegal AI research. The Initiative hired him because of his status as one of the first men through the Charon Relay, service during the First Contact War and being one of the first people to gain N7 ranking, which suggests that he retains some level of prestige despite being blacklisted by the Alliance.
