Mac confirmed on Pax panel today that some in the Initiative knew about the Reapers.
Sorry, I don't know how to get the exact video and quote.
But this could mean a lot of things.
-Its just a slight reference and barely affects how the journey goes, or does it color SOME faction and SOME character stories and motivations, even if nothing directly central -Does he mean 'knows about Sovereign' (ME1) or 'knows about the Reaper intentions' (ME2) or 'knows about imminent Reaper invasion (ME3)? -Who would know? A few misc characters? Leadership? Dad? -Or will it only be little hints that mostly fans understand, in codex or minor ambient dialogue hints, etc

What if the Initiative bumped into the Reapers while travelling in dark space. Surely that's a risk they thought of Space is hugely big, bumping into something like even a large reaper armada would be very unlikely.

I know but a risk no matter how small for a project this big would need to be considered. I definitely did not think that Andromeda is only 1 light year away with only one way of getting there

But but what about exploration and colonisation. That's for AI plebs obviously. It seems you don't. It's like considering risk of bumping into old nazi submarine every time you swim in an ocean.

No, it's not. It's like considering the risk of being hit by a meteor when walking the dog. A meteor that, coincidentally, is the exact same shape as that birthmark on your ass. And has a naturally occurring series of indentations on it forming your address. In Cyrillic. It's probably several orders of magnitude more unlikely than that. Space is big.

I believe this is the AI true purpose, to escape the reapers why else would species who have had wars and hate eachother cooperate unless the leadership knew the risks, there were huge parts of the milky way still unexplored. In the new video released today the salarian tells yder about a 5th ark. There are species on there who have no intrest in expansion like humans but are council aligned races so this says to me that th AI is a cover to escape reapers.

Honestly i hope Mass Effect is done with the reapers. I found then incredibly boring. I don't think Reapers being part of the continuity and technology that is related to the Reapers is a big deal. I even (and this is where many would disagree) don't have a problem with big old machines that may have once been defined/coded as 'Reapers'. Where I do agree with many is that we should be done the 'Reaper story' and if there is anything of that big death squid shape, it should be mostly in reference (sometimes jokes) and maybe at most very occasionally in tangential importance. AKA they will never be a big deal again and I hope only rarely a small deal, at most. But stuff like 'we fled the Reapers'? Whatever, that's super acceptable to me. I even have the openness even to a mission in whatever would have been 'Reaper hub' in darkspace (even if its primarily of a bigger plotline) and whatever weird story that might recall the events of the Crucible. But again, that latter part is where many would disagree. Move the story forward, by all means. Avoid the most controversial things in a meantime, go for it. Build up newer and more relevant stories and lore. But I'd prefer the past not be totally forgotten. Despite the many complaints (which I do think is more than only a 'vocal minority'), most players were at least okay with almost everything of ME3 imo, and Bioware shouldn't friggin cower at the prospect of anything of it mattering ever again.

There are species on there who have no intrest in expansion like humans but are council aligned races so this says to me that th AI is a cover to escape reapers. Makes me wonder if they leave in the midst of the very beginning of the Reaper invasion, and so:
1)They know of the Reapers as more of a reality
2)It keeps the lesser homeworlds from necessarily meaning total extinction of their kind if Shepard didn't step into action.
Despite all this, part of me wants at least one race to be practically extinct. With all these saving throws happening, I'd like to know that one can fail. It doesn't even need to be from Milky Way, but a story of this Lost Ark(?) that leads into a MEA DLC or ME5 story where we experience the weight of them dying (at least for now in this form).
Who? Volus? Hanar? Elcor (aww)? Drell?
I vote Volus. They're too silly for MP, I don't see that much interesting about them, and especially not that much positive unique stuff. Commerce could be covered by others. They could return if Bioware wants to return with Milky Way people in some game and desire to write them in as surviving.

But they are in MP, which puts them miles ahead of what turned out to be joke species (Disparagingly: Yes, This One is looking at you). Not to mention that they have place in ME society as well, even if it's nothing special. With elcors and hanars Bioware didn't even care to give them something to do, or at least something they are good at.

They didn't do Hanar and Elcor because animations most likely.

Okay, are you saying you want planet entries with hanar and elcor in MEA? In MEA? Just let these poor creatures rest. I just want BW to learn from it's mistakes. Simply don't make species which you don't plan to animate or if they still do - give them purpose. Scientists, builders, pilots, anything which can be done without holding a gun. Make them part of the world.

Though really my ideal would be Bioware succeeding at a challenge to actually make these races respectable (even with some jokeyness continuing) instead of leaving them behind. Lots of people wanted to visit their homeworlds, at least.
