Is Mass Effect an "Indie" game?

No ME:A is by all definitions a AAA game. The complete opposite of a game developed by an indie company.

To give a better idea, an indie game is created without financial support of a publisher (according to wikipedia). In other words, small team, low budget. 

No lie, that guy sounds like he sucks (in a bad way).

If he means to say: "I happen to play/like mostly indie games" that's not necessarily a sign of hipster suckery.
Though if he means to say "I purposely avoid non-indie games, because indie is in all aspects the better choice" then he's full of it, and trying to show off as a rare connoisseur, who knows better than everybody else.

No you're right, I think it's because the OP did not know what indie meant which is why he made that comment. 

It's not really, but if he's a good guy and likes you, he'll accept what you like, as you are accepting what he likes.

If you don't feel comfortable enough to be your true self around him, that's a problem.

Sweetie, your BOYFRIEND is the hipster. So emphasize your love for the first Mass Effect game and interest in Andromeda, talk about how it's so underrated compared to big names like Halo, and you'll be safe enough. Mass Effect isn't technically indie, but it's TOTALLY indie in principle. Star Trek and Star Wars and Destiny and so many other IPs are much more well known and not a one of them captures the wonder of space like ME.

But really, if you don't feel comfortable sharing your geekdom with him, then either you need more confidence in yourself or you need a bf who respects you enough to consider what you like.

Maybe this guy could be like that. You never know until you have the conversation.

No, Mass Effect 1 was an EA-published game. I think they acquired Bioware after the game's development finished, though.

An indy developer is different from an independent company. Indy developers create and publish their games on their own, and are usually made up of a relatively small team of developers. Regardless, Bioware has always had a publisher for their games. Black Isle Studios, LucasArts, Microsoft, EA.

Heh, he sounds like a prick. Best of luck OP, be the better person who shows him that games don't have to be indie to be good, and take pride in the things you like.
