So in the trailer one of the main themes is that: all the golden worlds is a bust Why was i necessary to spoil that, in the trailer, why not leave it for the player to discover at arrival? Did anyone else find that information necessary in order to get excited about the game? Personally I was a bit disappointed about that spoiler in particular. I would rather they had left that discovery to the player upon arrival or shortly after. Either by being briefed or after exploring and seeing it for your self. //Beriksbait

Meh. I didn't mind it. But then again I gobble up spoilers and leaks like cookie monster does cookies.

I expected something like that. It never rains, but it pours I think the saying goes. Anyways I'm fine hearing about spoilers, like: The Kett are actually the good guys and the Angara have played us for fools! Fools I say!

Seems I posted this in the wrong section - I was sure I had moved to the spoilers section. Anyways sorry about that hopefully one will move it Back on topic: You might be right. It is not that I will loose any sleep over it. I just found it unnecessary I was pretty exited about the prospect of being "the first (visitors at least)" to set foot on new planets. Then (BOOM!). Human ark is delayed and everyone else has settled. And now they tell me this

Sorry, but that was very easy to figure out based on the little information presented prior. Nearly every planet shown was a wasteland. Since Bio wants exploration as a major gameplay component, the golden worlds couldn't be viable. I could tell you what's likely going to be the solution but that would spoil it even further.

It's sort of self-evident, if they had perfectly habitable worlds at the start, there wouldn't be so much emphasis on working hard to make the worlds viable to support life as the crux of the storyline. If you've watched any of the briefings you could infer that much. Finding viable space to live so you can unfreeze your colonists - big part of your goal.

It got.me more excited for the game. Conflict and solving them are necessary ingredients for story telling. And Andromeda is looking to be ripe with conflict.
And on this point the viability is essentially the power mechanic from inquisition but it looks a lot better on the implementation front.

It's a matter of perspective. Technically, Mars is a Golden World (or Goldilocks Planet) too. But it's far from an ideal place to be. And I think the writers are also trying to convey that what is scientifically a "golden world" might not be a Golden World in common speech. Not everybody is an astrophysist. It's the same as avarage Joe claiming he doesn't install any software on his mobile, only apps..

I see what you are all saying and it is not that I expected it to be a walk in the park. I just hope this do not mean it will be rinse and repeat on every planet. I guess Ill just have to wait and se. Maybe it is not a big deal after all - just my initial thought was "why was that necessary?"

Well...we know that the entirety of the game will be to raise all planet's viability so that you can wake up people from cryo sleep and then populate the planets through outposts...it's not like it's something new. It was kinda obvious, tbh.

No way was it going to be just the humans who rolled a 1 on the die. Epic fails for everyone. Marketing probably wanted people to know how utterly screwed they were. Bigger stakes, greater danger...the adventure becomes EPIC...and they need something that will stack up to the previous games.

In general, I feel as if they've revealed a bit too much. Which is ironic, since everyone was complaining about how quiet they were being a few months ago! It's my fault for watching the videos and stuff, but I would've preferred if they didn't reveal all these plot points and squadmates pre-release.

I personally wouldn't count that as a spoiler but each to their own. Agreed I would have thought something like thast would have popped up otherwise there wouldn't have been much of a story to it. It would have been We arrive in Andromeda find the habitats we were looking for and settle on them. the end. I don't know about you OP but to me that dosen't sound like much of a story to be fair. So it was always going to need more than that. There needs to be a reason why the pathfinders are required just like why the Inquisition was required in DAI and this is it the fact that the condition of the Heleus cluster was not as golden as we first thought. So we now have to find a way of surviving on what we can find until we can find or get better.

Of course I agree that it should not be like "Ohh look, this place looks nice, lets make a new home/paradise and invite the rest of planet earth over for tea and coffee" - I would expect there to be challenges. But to pure out say from the beginning, that every golden planet is a bust was, imo, not necessary be4 the game was released. The fact that other aliens are involved would kind of imply that a colonization would not go totally unproblematic. Making the information that every planet is outright uninhabitable unnecessary.

That was not really a spoiler.
Knowing the main game focusing on colonsisation you know that shit had to hit the fan very early on that matter. That is like saying you will go around in a wasteland in fallout games when those games hardly start like this.
Mass Effect is a plot driven story. So by knowing the original synopsis you know to some extent what will happen. And the launch trailer had way more importants spoilers than this one. Some being i guess near the end of the game.

After finishing the game I thought I would return to this post.
I am actually glad that most of my concerns was misplaced!
Still something could be improved but mostly I liked the way BW handled the "Golden World is a bust"-thingie that worried me.

If the golden worlds weren't a bust, we wouldn't really have much in the way of conflict. I'm just glad that the game didn't straight up give away the fate of Alec. That would have been annoying, almost as annoying as HTTYD2's reveal of Hiccup's mother right in the trailer. C'mon Dreamworks.

That would have been annoying, almost as annoying as HTTYD2's reveal of Hiccup's mother right in the trailer. C'mon Dreamworks. Well my concern was not really about the fact that all golden worlds was a bust. More that I thought the trailer showed me that, and that the humans were the last to reach Andromeda and that all other races were already settled. And I am just glad that was not the case - though there are still a few things I would have loved to see in an exploration game. For instance I would still have loved to be "first" intelligent species on at least one planet. For now I mostly think about what the other pathfinders do after you save them

It's the premise.
Before I saw that trailer all the prior marketing made me scratch my head. "We're going to Andromeda to settle into these golden worlds"... and then what? What is the conflict? Where is the dramatic hook that pulls me in? "None of the golden worlds have panned out." Ah, there it is!
Before I would have no interest beyond "it's science fiction and space stuff". But after the trailer I wanted to see what would happen in that scenario because it had tension and stakes.
