So does anyone else think the Andromeda trailers' references to seven "golden" worlds is a reference to the old conquistador myth about seven cities of gold?
Or am I giving Bioware's writers too much credit?

i think you're giving bioware writers too much credit. The premise of going to andromeda and how we can get there is frankly retarded. Smudboy's video on it just makes it that more painful.

I don't think that would be giving Bioware writers too much credit at all considering they have proven they are more then capable of making references to other pieces of myth and fiction...
I just don't think it is a reference.

They've said they don't want the AI to be seen as a colonization venture which is dumb because it totally is. This was probably a Freudian slip.

Giving the writers too much credit. 7 is just a nice number Also number 7 is commonly used across myths, legends and religions. It's a pretty common and important number across human cultures worldwide.

I'm the most confused about the "fight for your new home" angle we see in the launch trailer. I mean, okay. But why? The AI isn't (allegedly) a necessity if we assume the people behind it don't know about/believe in Reaper invasion. It's an expensive venture into the unknown and the AI members are kind of an aggressor. It is a kind of pointless colonization on the surface, let's hope that the game gives a good reasoning behind it.

This is where they are dividing in universe and out of universe marketing...well at least in part. In universe the AI is just a scientific endeavor, out of universe the player knows the Reapers are a threat so...whether we want to or not...we are fighting for a new home. Though also in universe, probably because of events in the game, the AI will end up having to fight for a new home because they can't get contact with the Milky Way like they wanted and because things went wrong on the other side so they have to fight for a new home, both the environment, and the various hostile groups in the area.

Okay but Golden World makes it sound like they're the planet equivalent of shiny pokemon. Also, dude, goldilocks zone is not the preferred nomenclature - circumstellar habitable zone, please.

Eletania is a garden world, but still has a hostile environment to non-native life.

But if we're going to talk about romance, why would Golden World be preferable to Garden World? A Golden World sounds like a place where Midas has a restraining order, whereas Garden World sounds like a callback to Eden, that paradise of mankind before a danger noodle offered food for thought.

The Initiative's PR markets the Golden Worlds as the coolest of the cool, so of course they're going to come up with a fancier term.

Garden Worlds in Mass Effect are not really all that friendly. For example, Hagalaz is classified as a Class 2 Garden World...Hagalaz...the planet with the fucking boiling oceans that freeze over at night where the Shadow Broker hides his ship in an eternal storm cloud. Yeah...that's a "Garden World". I think Golden Worlds are supposed to be planets that cannot only be colonized but are considered optimal for colonization.

Typical Manifest Destiny bullshit if you ask me. With any luck. We'll probably get something more along the lines of a standard white savior plotline. I'm always hoping for something a lot more politically incorrect.
