Hello everyone! I wanted to put this together for new ME players as well as old hands maybe looking to spice up future playthroughs. It's a list of mods that I've found to be Must Haves, as well as a few that are at least Pretty Good. Please feel free to comment with your own Must Have mods (preferably with links to a stable *coughnotBSNPrime* place to download) and I will add them to the list. The sad truth is that there's a LOT of information on mods located on the BSN Prime that will simply be lost, and I can't even begin to know where to start in trying to track down or save all those resources. But I feel like this list is a good start. So please do help us add to the list! Mod list format: MOD TITLE - games it can be applied to - LINK(S) TOOLSMass Effect Texmod - ME1, ME2, ME3 - here or hereLarge Address Aware - General Game Mod Tool - here or hereME3 Explorer - ME3 - here or here
TEXTURES & CINEMATICSMass Effect Cinema Mod - ME1, ME2 - here or here (youtube example video here) ME Updated/Improved Texture Mod- ME1 - here or here Blood Be Gone - ME2 - here or hereShorter Loading Animations - ME2 - here or hereAnderson Extended Coversation Mod - ME3 - here or hereME Happy Ending Mod - ME3 - here or hereJohnP's Alternate MEHE Mod - ME3 - here
Citadel Epilogue Mod - ME3 - hereAPPEARANCE(I have a ton of these but they are based on personal taste, so I'll limit this list to things I rec regardless of who's playing) Buff FemShep - ME3 - here or hereVanilla Hair Tweaks - ME3 - here or here
RESOURCES(I really wish people would name their pages something other than ME Mods...) Mass Effect Modding ( general) Mass Effect Modding ( elemod's, technical) Mass Effect Mods ( girlplaysgames's, general & technical) Headmorphs & Tecture Mods list ( Mass Effect Save's, general) ThaneMod ( general, haven't tried them personally but hear good things) Mass Effect Mods ( ishouldgo's, general & technical) Nexus Mod: ME1, ME2, ME3Moddb: ME1, ME2. ME3This list is a work in process and more will be added gradually in the future! Thanks for your patience

This one really brings ME1 to the rest of trilogy in visual part, gray dirt instead of textures is no more. Weird though, I remember someone making texture upgrades for ME2/ME3, but can't find anything.

As for ME2 & 3, there are a couple texture mods for them I know about but they're all defunct at this point. One is the very beautiful 4K mod that (at least on it's main BSN thread) has let almost all the download links lapse. There's this mod for ME3 which contains a lot of other mods inside it but I can't speak from personal experience for its performance since I haven't tried it myself yet.

A couple of other mods I like: Appearance: Tweaks: - Faster Elevators -ME1. For speeding up almost all elevators. But it still allows for SquadBanter to finish
- Quick Startup -ME1. From the Desciption: "The "Skip to Main Menu" download starts the game at the main menu"
- Shorter Dreams -ME3. Shortens/removes the Dream sequences and or the Kid.
Story:
Gameplay:
Way too much to list (and a Must have IMO)
Expanded Galaxy Mod -ME3

Just reviewed expanded galaxy ... wow.
I did the hi res mod for ME, just to see how it might work.
Then read that some of the exclusive content in ME2 is now available on PC.
Now learned of this mod for ME3.
I now have a reason to complete my new ME play through ME2 and ME3 ...

Ah, I knew I forgot a couple of things! I guess this list has the most important things. There are also GiftFish's mods (e.g., Thanemod), more AVPen mods (something Tali related, IIRC), and Getorex' Ashley and Tali Mods, for which I don't have links right now. --GiftFish and AVPen can be also found on ME3Explorer, not sure about Getorex.

The ME1 texmod looks really good that I'm tempted to give it a spin. P.S. I can't even tell if the mod for ME2 is working or not. I'm using the cinematic mod for ME2 btw.

What is beautifull of the MEUITM mod is that an utter clats like me can install it. The manual is primo and it doesn't use modtex and therefore one of the easyer mods to install. That limitation comes with pro's and cons ofcourse, if you want it all you need to experience yourself in learning how to use all that software. Never quite managed texmod.
I am a patient person and good in reading lots of manuals, youtube how to's beforehand and usually get there. However I am going to try the ALOT one for ME3 and report back if it is doable easy install and worth the trouble.
Installed the ALOT mod on ME3 and it runs without problems. Played from beginning until pick up of Javik without any hickups. Playing that high res is a treat. Installation is easy enough it is more the patience of installing. I spread it over 2 days and would say that the assessment of 10 hours is a correct one. Is it worth doing? For me yes, but I play the trilogy multiple times a year.
Is there a downside besides time consuming downloading, installation? Yes, you install only what is given. If you want a lot of choise this is not it, can't or don't want to use texmod this might be it. The game loads normally to. There are optional files which I did not do. I used 7z version 5.3 with update 5.3.12
So hope this helps for the folks who where wondering.

Okay, so question from an ME3 modding newb: What are the differences between MEHEM, JAM, EGM, Back Off, ME3 Recalibrated, and ThaneMOD? Is one better than others? If I use more than one, what's the load order? I want to have the best experience here. ( edited because I forgot a couple I'm interested in)

That explanation should likely be longer, but the short version is:
MEHEM skips the Catalyst and the end choices, provides a 'happy' (I.e., everyone lived ever after) ending based on (among others) the Extended Cut memorial scene.
JAM is NOT compatible with MEHEM. Copy from the Nexus page: This story mod is based on MEHEM, the Mass Effect Happy Ending Mod, by Fob. It keeps (IMHO) what makes MEHEM MEHEM: the memorial scene with Shepard, and uses it with the traditional Extended Cut ending (albeit slightly modified). [...] Version A keeps the Catalyst conversation and Shepard's choice between Destroy, Control, and Synthesis. Version B skips the Catalyst conversation (like original MEHEM) and the Crucible destroys the Reapers.
EGM, Back Off, ME3 Recalibrated, and ThaneMOD should be compatible with one another and one of the above mods. (I have only used EGM as of now, as the other mods are/were not compatible with different localizations than english.)
EGM touches pretty much everything somehow. Clusters are open from the very beginning, there are new missions (mostly text-based), You receive updates on the war, Certain events result in the Normandy getting visitors, WAY more customization option in every way possible (char specs, armour, weapons, normandy crew, mission timing, and whatnot) And I probably forgot half of what it adds.
Backof alters the behaviour of possible ME3 LIs, when a previous game's LI survived, and generally alters dialogue choices concerning LIs to be more fitting. ThaneMod alters Thane content, so he survives and has a better romance or some such. Recalibrated fixes several glitches and restores some content. I haven't tried it yet as it only works with the english version.
It's really best to go to the mod's respective sites and look at their descriptions, as I really only cover the mimimum. It is also noteworthy that most of these mods require one or several of the official DLCs. I don't think you can affect the load order of these mods. To my understanding, loadorder is determined by an integer field integrated into the DLC files.

The only thing which I think could possibly affect it would be if an installer would be looking for another mod during install, but I don't think any of us modders have done that.

This is perfect for me, I was mostly looking for bullet points about what each one does that differs from the others. Thanks!! EDIT: Does anyone know of a good scar mod that DOESN'T replace the Lazarus scars? I had my old scar and Lazarus scars in ME2, and I'm hoping I can do the same in ME3.

To me, the only must haves are the coalesced editors. I don't know why Bioware is so terrible at optimizing their own games.

Remki, would you mind if we were to merge with this with my current list of the mods going on, or even make a post under mine with the same info? I am trying to keep all the info together and there is a LOT of mod authors moving projects around right now. In fact, I have 75 to move to Nexus tomorrow. Thanks

Bump I seem to have forgotten to list mods by Getorex. - DLC_CON_Geto01 for ME3. It gives Ashley her ME1 face back, replaces the Skirt thing with an Alliance Uniform (of the type Shep uses in the prologue), fixes her Marksman bug, and more. It lets Liara use a helmet instead of a Breather mask. Also replaces standard Alliance helmets of the sqad with 'full clear face helmet' versions.
Even though I'm not a total fan of these two (minor nitpick reasons), they are very well made and definitely worth at least a look.
- DLC_CON_TaliFF -ME3. A real face for Tali, that is visible (and functional) under that helmet.
- DLC_CON_EDI -ME3. Replaces EDI's body with a more human looking one. Especially alters the face and hair.
