Plot, then gameplay and characters (but I think it's somewhat connected with plot). Dragon Age Inquisition had quite interesting companions and advisors, but what of it? The plot was just boring and really simple, Big Hero defeating Big Bad Guy,nothing special. The only good thing was the very last scene and Tresapasser.

Plot and characters, if not for all that intrigue in ME1, it would never got me to ME series.

Characters&Romance for me, though I'm looking forward to a great plot.

Characters. They have always been the best part of the ME games for me. I would also put plot and gameplay up there. Probably won't touch MP unless I'm bored. Graphics are less important to me as well.

So I guess most people have more or less given up on the "plot" aspect in advance?... I guess that's what happens when you can only choose one thing on the poll, but for me, plot ain't shit if I don't care about the characters, and in a sprawling game where I can go off the beaten path for hours at a time, I'll need something to fill in the gaps. BioWare's plots have always been rather basic anyway, from DAO and ME1 onward. While that's no excuse to skimp on the story, characters are a big factor in making it more worthwhile.

Diverse expansive gameplay mechanics. More focus on the little things and small details. Anything that's immersive. Great gameplay and immersive details can help enhance a story or characters. Dishonored 2 is a great example. The story and characters would have normally been meh, but gameplay, world and the little details made them much better.
If you're solely worried about story and characters, there's tell tale games and movies for that.

Its a toss up between plot and characters for me. I think in many ways the two go hand in hand and are related. Like you can have a rich plot full of detail, intrigue and twists n turns etc but if you dont have interesting characters to bring about that plot and make you care about what's happening in the first placs then it becomes meaningless. Likewise you can have the most interesting, awesome characters but without a great plot to put them into, a plot to actually make you invested in said characters etc then that is just as pointless as well. Although you have to factor in world building also... As fantastic world building can very much so make up for a shitty plot, and thus still allow for great characters to actually be great despite a lame plot. Even more so in an RPG like Mass Effect, where lets be honest its main plot was always B movie-ish crap, but the superb world building and the superb characters kinda elevated the trash plot or at the very least caused one not to notice/otherwise ignore the lacklustre winging it plot etc. But even more in an RPG where world building, plot and characters really are everything. Of course being a game, gameplay still matters hugely, having a great plot and characters but without the gameplay to back it up, it will detract from everything else to an extent. A game still needs to be fun for the plot and characters to actually matter and make you want to continue on. But with story focused games its not the gameplay alone that what makes you fall in love with the universe. You need the solid foundations of a plot and characters in place first. In a way all three are in a symbiotic relationship with each other.

So I guess most people have more or less given up on the "plot" aspect in advance?... Pretty much gave up as soon as i read that Mac Walters is the director and some Halo 4 guy the main writer. Its gonna be at best generic, run of the mill action plot with run of the mill villain, i think. They dont have the people anymore to make anything that hits the feels of ME1, Sovereign, Vigil or Saren. Weve gone from Alien to Star Wars Prequels, pretty much since of ME2. I just hope it doesnt require us to read 3 books about what the hell is going on in general, like a certain Halo game.

The more you start thinking about it, the dumber it becomes.

I'd say a little bit of everything myself but seeing as how this is a Mass Effect game, characters get the edge over everything else.
Gameplay mechanics are probably #2 because that's the other thing we're going to be doing for the vast majority of the game along with talking to the other characters.

I didn't hate the character, but he didn't strike me as being a particularly imposing one either.

As for the question, what makes this game for me, aside from plot since we can pretty much throw that out of the window, me thinks.
- The world, has to be intresting and meaningful, with lots of exploring, intresting places and good vistas. - characters and relationships, have to be intresting and meaningful. Also emotianal moments, even if the plot turns out to be generic. - gameplay, the less clunkier aka ME1 it is, the better

gameplay. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have as many playthroughs for the trilogy. For me, it adds replay value.

I would say almost all those choices.
Mutli player does not matter to me in any form regarding this game. If it is good, great then it makes those looking to play it happy. For me characters/plot can make or break the game. Good game play helps. As ME1 was ok regarding game play. Only to get much better in next two games. Graphics, well in this day an age I expect a good looking game.

I've played many games where the Plot was great but the characters were an absolute bore, and that ruins the experience for me. Gameplay is of course very important but in terms of a BioWare game, it's hardly the most important aspect to me anyway considering how I absolutely hated the auto-attack laden Dragon Age Origins combat but still loved the game as a whole. And Mass Effect (1) is still one of my favorite games of all time even with it's incredibly repetitious side quests and awkward gun play. It's the characters that have always been paramount in BioWare games. Multiplayer is something i've never been big on in the first place, but i'll still jump into it every once in a while, and does add more hours of play, but overall it doesn't even need to be there. And graphics? BioWare games have never been the most visually stunning games in the world, and I don't expect Andromeda to be, although some of the landscapes look great as they did in DAI.
