I'm not sure that is a can of worms they want to touch. It'll stay as it was. Nothing else can reasonably be expected, since a remastering doesn't usually add new content, *and* Bioware most likely doesn't want to touch that can of worms either.

The absolute best case scenario, outside of including DLC, which I'd hope is a given (but you never know), would be the tweaking of ME1's gameplay. Even that's a stretch though, and I wouldn't count on it.
Assuming it does happen, what we should expect is a straight port, with some higher resolutions, and maybe some very minor touchups or basic fixes. At best.

I'm not sure that is a can of worms they want to touch. They may add cut content that has no effect on the ending. For example. Samantha never got a scene on the Citadel in the vanilla game. Don't know if there was a scene and it got cut for whatever reason, but that could be added

Well, if there's going to be remastering, "tweaking" would be an understatement since it'll be on a whole new engine, unless of course, it means only updating the Unreal engine then exporting.

The problem is that from a marketing perspective, doing this makes no sense at all unless it gets released right now.
After MEA releases, the world will have moved on surely...

I don't know, wait until after ME:A is released, then the potential customer is base is larger, since there will be some who will play MEA having never plated the trilogy. All those introduced to mass effect through Andromeda will then buy remastered trilogy after playing Andromeda. Possibly...

By tweaking I meant cleaning up menus to make them less clunky, perhaps altering the hacking, and adding headshots. Again, that's absolute best case scenario, and unlikely. The odds that they'll redo the games in a new engine is almost 0. The most work done to most remasters is to add higher resolutions. FFX got a new soundtrack, of arrangements based on its old soundtrack, and had some actors come in to voice material that had not been localized before. That was considered extensive for a remaster. Again, the odds are we shouldn't expect anything outside of a slightly better looking game, perhaps 4k support.

All i can say is these guys are idiots. Last year the hype built up for a remaster across the internet. There was a 54 page thread on Bungie about it ffs.
They told us all no and then waited a full year to say yes.
Who's running the marketing dept over there, kirby?

how about a director's cut on top of all of that? Because i know there's some things they wish they didn't have to cut the first time around.

I'd be happy if a remastered edition included: - better textures - higher resolutions (they go up to 1440p now, so 4k and some 21:9 resolutions) (the interface and text has to scale correctly) - controller support on PC (the code is in the game, they just have to make it a choice in the options menu and implement it properly) - all DLC (this wasn't possible until recently, when all the marketing deals have expired; for instance, the exclusive ME2 weapon for the PS3, the Blackstorm, is now available free on PC) - a bug-fix for AMD processors in Mass Effect 1 (to this day I haven't been able to experience Ilos with proper shadows)
Fewer changes = less complexity = better end product (that's how it should work, anyway). EA won't want to spend more money than they have to, so any additional changes are unlikely. As neat and complete a package as possible means EA might get completely rid of social.bioware.com (and maybe let GOG have them? Dragon Age: Origins was recently added to the GOG store).

I tweeted as much to them and several of us proposed it on bsn prime last year. The focus was on the cut content for Ashley in particular, which i thought was awesome.

Forgive my derpyness here but I know nowt about remasters. I take it that it's just taking the old game and upgrading it?
I'd actually prefer them to wait a few years then revisit the trilogy and remake it from the ground up (including doing the stories they wish they'd done). But you'd need a long wait before tackling it, it's too fresh right now.
However why on earth Bioware would put resources into the trilogy is beyond me. They're far better off letting the ME team do new games, DA do DA, new IP do new IP and just ignore it. So if there was a remaster I wouldn't be surprised if EA farmed it out to someone else. And they'll ruin it.

Sounds too good to be true, the whole remaster thing. As usual, I'm gonna get all excited about it, and then, some time later, EA will probably back off claiming that after much deliberation they decided to put the funds in their next projects. Which is totally fine and reasonable, but still, I think ME deserves a curren gen version. I'm naive, right?

I hope a remaster does happen. I don't even care if it is just a graphic update. I really want to play the trilogy again, but I just don't want to hook up my Xbox 360 again in order to do it. First world problem, I know.

That would be nice. But I seriously wonder what they will do with the 3rd game and its ending. I'm not sure that is a can of worms they want to touch. The only thing a remaster will do is upgrade it with high resolution textures. In addition, any pre-rendered movies will also be re-encoded in high resolution. The content or dialogue in the ending or any other part of the game won't be touched.

That's disappointing. I would have loved to biotically charge the creepers on Feros. If it means the Dr. Pepper dlc equipment in ME2 will be included, I would buy it.
