One of my favorite concepts of playing a game with character customization and choice making is when you decide to model your game character after a completely different character that never appears in the game. I'm not talking about making your character LOOK like that character, I also mean you try to make your choices align with that character and even leveling up their skill sets and abilities to match said character. Here are a few examples I've thought up (bear in mind, I haven't had time to try these yet).
Dragon Age Inquisition:
- Elsa: basically create a blonde haired, human female mage, that predominantly tries to wear blue, is relatively introverted with a kind heart, and uses nothing but Ice magic.
Mass Effect Trilogy:
- Captain Kirk: This is pretty much a straight-forward, Paragon soldier, except designed to look Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek
- Han Solo: This guy is interesting because he would be strongly Renegade, but still ultimately make Paragon decisions, a bit similar to how most depictions of Han Solo in the movies usually has him try to avoid being a hero, but ultimately make the right decision in the end. Oh, and I'll try to make him look like Han Solo of course.
Fallout:
- MacGyver: Truthfully I haven't seen MacGyver yet so I wouldn't know what he's like personality wise. I do know his biggest trait is that he's a crafty inventor that tries to avoid violence, so my MacGyver would predominantly focus on crafting and hacking skills.
- Mad Max: A hardened survivor, while not an evil monster, doesn't want to be a hero per-say. Max would be a combatant, predominantly using a shotgun.
Mass Effect Andromeda:
- Flynn Ryder: Yeah, very funny I know. Flynn would not only look like the Disney character, he would also be nimble, crafty, humorous, and a flirt.
- Indiana Jones: Modeled of course after the famous archaeologist, Indie would be a combat heavy. His focus is on the treasure, but that doesn't mean he can't be friendly with others. He's also not a natural flirt, but over-time he does manage to find love.
- Lara Croft: Modeled after the famous character in gaming, Lara is more craftier than Indy, opting for combat and tech. Her focus is of course on the treasure, but from my experience, she's still open to being friendly with her own crew and an overall nicer person than Indy.
These of course are just examples. I might play these, might not, might come up with someone brand new, might not. Have you guys ever played a game where you modeled your character out of a pre-existing character before? Do you plan to? Sound your thoughts here!

I always RP'd as Ragnar Lothbrok since 2013, before that, as Buliwyf, after watching The 13th Warrior and long before these two, as Harald Bluetooth after I found out that the Bluetooth logo was Harald's initials. Skål.

I played a Dragon Age game as Elizabeth Bennett Cousland. Does that count?

I once created the 'Reboot'character 'Matrix' on a Wrestling game a friend lent me...is that what you mean? Sort of, but not exactly. Wrestling games aren't necessarily roleplaying, you're just designing a character to look like someone. But hey, if you enjoy doing that, that's okay.

Almost all of my Players are my own alter egos with years of back story. I have 6 of them. I fell in love with D&D 24 years ago. And if I have the luxury of creating them I try to make them look like me (occasionally giving them a different hair colour and make-up), except for a while there after the release of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo where I tried to figure how Lisbeth Salander would deal with the events. I confess, I am a Noomi Rapace fan.

Bonus points if you've got pictures, OP.
Closest I ever got was creating Alex Shepard from Silent Hill: Homecoming in Mass Effect. It really was not a stretch because both were military characters with the same surname. Too bad I erased the poor guy.

Fallout: Clint Eastwood drifter/man with no name persona. Mad Max.
Mass Effect: Paragon Kirk, Renegade Kirk, Evil Kirk. James Bond (Craig/Connery style). Austin Powers.
Deus Ex:HR Dirty Harry
Elder Scrolls franchise: Now that's a bit more complicated.....so many............
I'm thinking about creating a new uber-renegade character...can you imagine the carnage a Commander Ramsay would unleash on his team/crew.....
(BTW Sweary Alert)
