Lets not take sides.
Some people are reporting good things.
Some people bad.
Lets listen to all of them and see if we can get a sense of what the bigger picture is.
Without, freaking out and wetting our enviro-suits.

Behemoth: a thing of monstrous size or power. First, the writer's choice of superlative is not only odd, but to me is slightly negative in connotation. Haven't read more than that; I try not to waste time on a writer that uses large words to sound impressive while simultaneously using it incorrectly and making an ass of themselves. DAI was massive, in all the worst ways. Something being large =/= good. I don't agree. Behemoth is a perfectly cromulent adjective.

I like hearing the increased dialogue options are nice, that Ryder doesn't sound like a soldier cuz they're not really and that NPCs notice your side-quests, that'll help a lot even if they are just bland fetch ones.

It is nice to read a positive preview, but there were two statements she made that I thought were baffling: It seems like an improvement only if you compare the CC to the previous three games, none of which had a good character creator. Compared to DA:I it seems like a step backward except for the hair, which is admittedly better, but that isn't saying much. Best ever? She's got to be joking. Well she said it seems it had a good cc

Apart from the odd line (like "my face is tired" - Director Addison), the writing has been great: very natural if I had to pick a word, the conversations flow very naturally. They might not have the harsh good/bad of paragon/renegade, but they flow very much like a real conversation - which is very refreshing. Like a child calling their dead father by it's official title, only two hours after he died? Yea, very natural... some of there dialogues are fine, but by no means all of them. With a game with supposedly a lot of lines I'm not surprised there's an odd line or two

While CC is a step down form what we got in ME trilogy and let alone in DA:I, I still can't deny that my custom Ryder looks very life like and emotional. I was surprised how good animations were. Although I feel like I'm in minority on the whole animation issue.

I can see an argument for preferring a CC with training wheels. She got acceptable results fast with ME:A. If she isn't good with CCs, and doesn't want to put in the time to get good, a worse CC might suit her needs.

Look I was expecting that reviews would be mixed solely on the fact that this game is different from the rest. I'm not saying there don't appear to be bugs but I'm still very excited and know I'll love it.

Lets listen to all of them and see if we can get a sense of what the bigger picture is. Yeah. I hear a lot of references from ppl to DA:I. I loved that game. The Devs have talked a lot about The Witcher as inspiration. I loved those games. I liked the original ME trilogy. Including the ending. So, I'm not worried. Well, actually I'm worried about the gaming community itself. They are turning into a bunch of whiny bitches.

All the criticism I've seen is not going to ruin the game. I think the gaming community (or those who use the internet in general) are becoming a lot more entitled in general. It seems if any form of media has any perceived fault it's automatically a failure and everyone should know about it. Also there's the whole hipster culture of hating things because other people like it, so therefor it's overrated.

"Fancy words are not gonna save you!"
Kidding aside, I can't just enjoy it and pretend there isn't several recurring distracting elements in it. I keep feeling like this gen of gaming is full of game project on a production scope that totally inflate the development. I'm also torn on the roleplaying. Looks like Mac told the team to keep it ME3-style after all because Ryder sure speaks a lot by himself in every scene and we always only have 2 choices that are always, always just different ways of saying the same thing. I hated the open world in DA:I and i was disappointed in the story big time but I loved everything that had to do with customization. It had some of the best dialogue/roleplaying options ever. Not that I dislike doing the tone-options in this one... but it's just kind of redundant sometimes. "Do I wanna say this as if I'm excited about it?" or "Do I wanna agree in a professional way?". I don't feel any of it characterizes Ryder and I'm not making a lot of "choices" either. He's just locked into character and I just press the "play" button. I seriously doubt any choices aside from companion development will matter in this game.

For all the things I read about the game, I am still think it is going to be a classic. Sure the CC is not great and it needs some polishing on the animation department but I mostly laugh about those, it was never a deal breaker. That is why I do not get the doom and gloom people are feeling.

I think she meant that it was an improvement in the sense that she made a character she thought looked good. Something lots of people struggle with and will spend hours trying to do to no avail in every other Bioware game. The hair thing is pretty subjective though, if you don't like them that's fair enough. I think they're fine and I like a good number of the male hairstyles. Haven't tried female styles yet.
