Since every man and their fucking dog is making a topic on the minority negative previews that are about, here is a major outlet's extremely positive preview for the BSN fam to consider as another piece of the pie. kotaku.com/five-hours-in-mass-effect-andromeda-is-overwhelming-1793268493I'm personally nearly through 10 hours of the game, and I echo nearly all of Patricia Hernandez's points here: the game is a stunner as well (especially on PC), it's probably the best use of HDR10 I've seen in gaming if I'm being honest (even, only just, better than in Horizon). Strong points that both myself and Patricia like: Story, Conversations, Quests, Combat and VA work. I would like to add, that so far the music has been sublime, like next level good: easily on par with the trilogy, even better (blasphemy!) in parts (especially combat). Remember, play the game yourself: and then make up your mind: don't let anyone deprive you of your space adventure my friends.

I'm downloadnig the trial version as we speak. I won't be doing actual gameplay much though, as I won't be playing the full version on my PC, but on my PS4 Pro.
So I'll mostly be messing with the CC.

Heh, this is both a great relief and a great concern. It's nice to see a very positive preview, on the other hand Patricia Hernandez is one of those reviewers where my tastes just rarely matches hers. At least we both love Horizon Zero Dawn, so here's hoping.

It is nice to read a positive preview, but there were two statements she made that I thought were baffling:
It seems like an improvement only if you compare the CC to the previous three games, none of which had a good character creator. Compared to DA:I it seems like a step backward except for the hair, which is admittedly better, but that isn't saying much. Best ever? She's got to be joking.

Meh, Patricia Hernandez... well, since she does neither go to much into the writing nor the character animations, or any of the other points others have criticized, it's an apt first look.

Behemoth: a thing of monstrous size or power.
First, the writer's choice of superlative is not only odd, but to me is slightly negative in connotation. Haven't read more than that; I try not to waste time on a writer that uses large words to sound impressive while simultaneously using it incorrectly and making an ass of themselves.
DAI was massive, in all the worst ways. Something being large =/= good.

I've heard criticism that they all feel pretty samey. Have you played through any conversations more than one time? If so, how did you find it? I'm mostly wanting to know whether it feels like anything really changes besides what line the protagonist uses to get to the next conversation point.

Sometimes they feel a bit like you are saying the same thing, but with a different tone. What i did find with testing several scenes and choosing different options is that responses vary a lot. Like you get can get a totally different response based on your tone. I thought that was neat. In most Bioware games they usually reply the same thing no matter what you say, atleast in the trilogy with Paragon/Neutral. Have to test it more to say if i really like it or not.

Since every man and their fucking dog is making a topic on the minority negative previews that are about, here is a major outlet's extremely positive preview for the BSN fam to consider as another piece of the pie. Off topic but... With credit and apologies to Peter Steiner. Hahaha.... that's awesome: so true mate How are the dialogue options/the wheel? I've heard criticism that they all feel pretty samey. Have you played through any conversations more than one time? If so, how did you find it? I'm mostly wanting to know whether it feels like anything really changes besides what line the protagonist uses to get to the next conversation point. I've played through many conversations, and the best way to describe them would be they flow very well, and it all feels very natural: choices maybe don't matter as much as in the renegade/paragon system, but this is honestly feeling like a 100 hour RPG from the amount I've played: with 20 of those hours being in conversations (I kid you not), so I havent made too many major choices within dialogue let's just say... I'll say this too, there is some really, really good humor at use here: much more deliberate than in the previous ME games, and it's welcome to lighten the (sometimes) foreboding mood of Andromeda. I'm pretty sure that's not what she's meaning, and I say this from experience: it feels massive in scope, like there are layers to the mystery that are deep, maybe as deep as the deep roads. Without going into spoilers, it's got many layers of things going on, and it has far deeper sublayers than I ever expected. Meh, Patricia Hernandez... well, since she does neither go to much into the writing nor the character animations, or any of the other points others have criticized, it's an apt first look. Apart from the odd line (like "my face is tired" - Director Addison), the writing has been great: very natural if I had to pick a word, the conversations flow very naturally. They might not have the harsh good/bad of paragon/renegade, but they flow very much like a real conversation - which is very refreshing. Now, in terms of animations, the lip syncing is great: the mouth animations are fine in the most part (memes have kind of made me look for things which annoys me), and walking/running and general character movement is great: there is the odd weird thing: but the main ones have all been gif'ed up the wazoo, so you've probably seen them: and trust me, you wouldn't notice these so called 'abominations' when you're playing, it all feels smooth.

What i did find with testing several scenes and choosing different options is that responses vary a lot. Like you get can get a totally different response based on your tone. I thought that was neat. Interesting if any of it will have any real consequences other than some response variety. The way I remember DAI, from where this tone system is lifted off, most of the dialogues were very railroaded regardless of tone picks. Immediate visible choices were very few, off the top of my head - Cole becomes human or stays spirit, sacrifice Bull's Chargers or Qunari dreadnaught, Cullen's addiction, Divine elections, Orlais emperor.

Shock is a hell of a thing. Emotional distance is one thing, but... ...that outburst Ryder had when approaching the Nexus was just cringe worthy... it was just an awkward exposition dump to emphasis the gravitas of their situation, not "shock".
