So, I jumped into ME:A MP Gamespot stream and saw that there's a Milky Way faction you fight in MP. That makes Andromeda Initiative even more nonsensical. If we ignore the aspect of not really needing to search for a new Earth/Palaven/Thessia/Sur'Kesh with multiple colonizable planets in the Milky Way left to be discovered, it should at least take people who want to build that new home, not stir up shit and kill each other. 20 000 people per ark is VERY limited.
Why Andromeda Initiative goes to shit after mere 14 months? Was there another Ark filled with criminals and their mechs? Here's hoping it will be plausibly explained in the game.

The faction is called the Nexus Exiles. They started shit on the Nexus because they got upset about the Arks disappearing and the golden worlds turning out to be shit-tier planets.
Apparently the Andromeda Initiative has the most lax vetting procedure in the galaxy. Both of them.

Apparently the Andromeda Initiative has the most lax vetting procedure in the galaxy. Both of them. guess that there was no space Trump to implement extreme vetting for the AI candidates, huh It makes no sense whatsoever. Did AI members expect some Andromedean hula dancers and no difficulties at all? Why did they start a mutiny (and basically sabotage of themselves) right away? It would make sense if there was like a small group of doomsayers that were beginning to have doubts about the initiative and trying to take over. But having them fighting and wasting precious few lives (and I guess all the AI members were supposed to, erkhm, populate the planets in the long run) in little more than a year sounds like mental instability.

To be fair, it kinda makes sense... without going into any spoilers: I can see why this whole mission was chalk full with, let's say, skilled but unstable personalities.

The limited number is understandable. Not many person would leave everything forever just for the unknown. Also the AI need as many manpower as possible they must have been pretty cool on their candidate background. For the 14 month thing. It is 14 month without the arks or planets suited for life and both of these reason ended up screwing the entire Nexus from basic life-sustain. So yeah in 14 months I guess some people were pissed to be stranded without hope for survivability, loved one still in cryo or missing and with rationing. Imagine to live in a country for a year in those conditions.
also you might want to add spoiler tag.

To be fair, you'd have to be slightly nuts to sign up for a 600 year journey into the complete unknown when there are many perfectly habitable planets much closer to home. The plan itself was bonkers from the start, so there wasn't going to be much luck in filling the arks with rational people.
Escaping the Reapers would have made for a better premise, but here we are.

To me it is just human nature I mean look at Jacob's father in Mass Effect 2.
Sometimes the chance to be King, God whatever can corrupt anyone.

We dont even check most of the people crossing our borders at all.

also you might want to add spoiler tag. For a Salarian, sure, it is a big deal, but an Asari or Krogan? A year is (should be) NOTHING to them. I would expect Salarians to get pissed. But we fight rebel Krogans and Asari too. 14 months of hardships is perfectly understandable to begin some anxiety (not in Krogan or Asari, it should be just a minor annoyance for them when you look at the bigger picture), but killing one another? Did the leadership of AI never heard of some standard cliche`s like "we're in this together" or "no matter what happens, we need to support each other"?

I know, I wrote in the OP that we for a moment ignore the state of the Milky Way exploration. Hell, we can also ignore the fact that AI didn't plan for a change in circumstances during the travel. Like, they could try to update themselves every 100 years with those plot telescopes.

Escaping the Reapers would have made for a better premise, but here we are. Or make destroy the only ending to ME3. For the next 10 years, the Andromeda project uses the destroyed reapers to build the ships and Nexus. People volunteer to join since they lost everything, family and friends, to the reaper war. They want a fresh start.

I dont think it is all that strange. First im still no way convinced that there isnt something to the mission we havent been told. But i havent played more then an hour or two so others may know better.
Second the leadership of the Nexus goes on vacation. So it is one thing if you are left struggling with people you believe in and would follow to a new galaxy. It is something else altogether when all of a sudden you find yourslef being led by Jimmy from accounting, who spends most his time fighting with Jill the promoted barista over who is in charge.
As to the Krogan they make the most sense of all.

Who chose Jimmy from accounting among 20 000 most qualified Humans? Why should he be one of couple thousand (I guess humans should take way more females, right? making it a 50-50 split isn't very wise) Adams? I didn't want to go here, but I feel that when Milky Way sends their people to Andromeda, they're not sending their best. They are bringing in crime, they're bringing in murder, they're rapists. And some of them, I assume, are good people.I slowly start to believe Kett are the good guys of the story.

I doubt they are outright good, but it could very well come down to: Two factions in a race for the same thing: Looking for a new home for their respective people... probably not, though. From what little we have seen of the Kett - or better the Archon - it seams they are in it for the power, not for any colonization effort.

Not really a big thing, but... ...from all I saw and heard from the other characters - Alec especially - the Ai is indeed made up of dreamers and fortune hunters. That would also mean: A whole lot of folks that are in it for glory and riches... no matter where those come from.
