I'm genuinely curious. Is there any information (in codex or in dialogue during those first few hours) about how many females are among the 20 000 humans? If the purpose of the mission is to create a new home then I guess AI should try to recruit mostly young women. I'm thinking at least 40-60 split, if not 20-80. Otherwise AI objective could be problematic, at least if we want to have a human society on Andromeda and not be just breeding machines for Asari or delve into pointless childless sex with whatever we will find there (in this case Angarans).

I'm interested in what is the percentage of (fertile) females on Hyperion, if there are too many men then the whole venture is a fools errand, unless we're in some cloning facilities territory.

i'd say 50-50 breeding machines for asari? what are you talking about? Asari can make Asari babies with anything that walks and talks. Humans can do human babies with other humans. 20000 people is a low number. Iceland has ~30000 and they use an app that tells them if they can pursue relationship with a person or if it would result in inbreeding. If we took too few women then the whole colonization project won't take off and is just wasted money, because we won't have a second Earth without sustainable human population with enough genetic diversity.

I'm just saying usually people who run stuff favour people who are like them gender, age, race etc. It's not about personal biases, it's about logic and the validity of Andromeda Initiative. The proper demographic distribution (that should be skewed in favor of young women who can have many babies) shouldn't be there because female CEO wants all her bffs to come, but because of planning and having a bigger picture in mind.

Sure but we know it isn't like that in life and I'm sure the writing is going to reflect that in this game. Anyway I say 50/50 because we are hardly Salarians. Edit 60/40 women because you make a good point.

20,000 humans is very low number, incredibly low to start a new humanity in a new galaxy,
when the startng point is a low number, like 20000, this specis will change/evolve very fast, it is indeed an evolution mechanism,
so humans won't be humans much longer, they will turn something else, and they live in entirely new echosystems, planets, change is assured, the same is for the other species

They probably have gallons of sperm and eggs somewhere on the Nexus, test tube babies really don't seem like a stretch with the genetic manipulation we know they have access to.

Anyway I say 50/50 because we are hardly Salarians. We're not colonizing new galaxies with a single one-way-ticket shot at it in real life either. Why such basic questions that arise simply from the very premise shouldn't be addressed in the game that's made by company which always was praised for deep, comprehensive lore?

That would require some heavy space magic to work. AI humans will quickly become a population tormented by inbreeding genetic diseases, unless Hyperion indeed has a vast vats of jizz and fridges full of artificial wombs and eggs.

The very same. My point is I'm not asking anything that shouldn't be on the table in the writers' room. We're colonizing a new world with just a handful of people. There is no way to transport more from the Milky Way. Theoretically you could have more humans in 1200 years or so, if you immediately send an e-mail titled '[URGENT] NEED MORE HUMANS' via FTL outlook client the very moment you wake up. Therefore we need to breed. How fast our colony needs to grow? How many births we need per year? Basic stuff.

It's easy enough to bring tons of eggs, sperm, frozen embros, whatever they want. There's no reason to think that the gene pool can't be made as large as they need it to be.

Andromeda Initiative demographics ;
It will be miraculously fertile if the game succeed ... with no more or less credible reasons than choose to colonize Andromeda rather than the 99 per cent of unexplored milky way.
If game fail, fertility will be so abyssal for every race that you will never heard anymore about AI.
It is a national sport here to think about game side devs don't care ? One future day, if necessary, They will solve this kind of problem using a magic wand.
