I believe 5 hours is more than anough to form a proper opinion about a game, not a final one of course, but a reasonable one. Open world or not. I mean, take ME2 for example and think its first 5 hours. God, you could easily tell the greatness of that game. You would alrady have had epic moments like the Normandy blowing up, the Normandy Reborn, meeting characters like Mordin and Aria, the combat was very well defined, etc. Sure, you would only have truly experienced ME2 after completing the Suicide Mission, but you would already know it was a great game. Same with open world games like Red Dead Redemption, GTA V or The Witcher 3. You would enjoy those games the more you played them, but 5 hours in you could already see their overwhelming qualities. I recall some people got bored within the first few hours of the Witcher 3. Same thing with Red Dead Redemption. I know I did.

Same with open world games like Red Dead Redemption, GTA V or The Witcher 3. You would enjoy those games the more you played them, but 5 hours in you could already see their overwhelming qualities. Their overwhelming qualities of what? Unrelatable cookie-cutter male protagonists? Storylines that advertise themselves as offering complex moral dilemmas that in reality only have ethical weight if you're a teenage male Nietzsche reader? Repetitive, consolized combat gameplay? YMMV. Those games aren't for everybody. Five hours into them, you might've been hooked. Good for you, and the millions of people like you. I couldn't stick with any of them, and I'm not exactly alone in that, either. But, y'know, since the gaming circle jerk has canonized those games, especially TW3, they're "objectively" great games.

In TW3 its after you meet the Emperor, or at the latest the Baron/Crones, and that's not 5 hours into the game

Maybe the same will happen for ME:A don't know I haven't played it. But I do think people on Twitter and Reddit are just overexaggerating the flaws of the game out of spite. (Not that I don't disagree with the criticisms)

sorry man I don't want to play a game as Geraldo Rivera, preorder cancelled too bad, a character with deep emotional connections made all the more powerful due to his own lack of feelings, a strong sense of moral obligation to defend the misunderstood and maligned, plus a wit so dry it could parch a desert.

To be honest I found Geralt a boring character in the Witcher 2. He only grew on me in TW3, but I understand why people don't like him.

Couldn't stand it. "My wife and kid are in serious danger. Sure I'll pick 5 commonly found flowers for you to get an empty whiskey bottle that I can fill with water to give to the guy who has the string I need to..."

In TW3 its after you meet the Emperor, or at the latest the Baron/Crones, and that's not 5 hours into the game I'm 10 in, and when my timer clicked I didn't really have any "oh shucks! I wanna play more!" moment. 10 in to basically every other Bioware game, I couldn't stop. 10 hours in to MLB and NHL, I wanted to keep playing. The list goes on. I'm really surprised I didn't have that this time around. It ended and I just shrugged it off and filed a couple expense reports for work.

Funny. He actually are different and overall writing for game is much-much better, even the language are better (though I played in polish and can compare). This comes from someone who very much can't stand Sapkowsky shallow writing. But I see that you are biased and not going to see anything besides 'oh I'm not going to play as white male' and 'oh there are waifu wars' etc etc I'm myself see it as interersting experience when I play as established character, gives you different points of view.
