Good article. Very level headed and unbiased. Still 4 more days until the real reviews come out though...

LinkI think the article makes some good points, particularly on why we all need to calm down. Could not have said this better myself. I personally would love to bring ME1 to this year and just see the posts on it. It would have been a total shit storm. As I've said in another forum, this to me clearly is a much better version of ME1 for many good reasons (new story and journey for example) so the game is going to start slow and progress (just like ME1). I'm super hyped for it because this has serious motivation for the 1st game which I adored. Facial animation argument really needs to just stop. I've played every single Bioware game and in every game the facial animations have been nothing short of hilarious. They have been horrible in every single game. Nothing new here. People will complain and whine about anything and everything and if you try to defend it they take it personal and attack you. What a weird, weird world we live in today.

I haven't read it but its obvious to me that everyone needs to calm down.
Two weeks ago everyone was praising the VA and animations.
(Also premature)
Next week will have a different set of reactions, by next month comparisons and by next year we'll have a consensus on the game.
Shutting down the forums didn't help either it was twitter and reddit that tore this thing apart before launch.
Not us.

There were a couple of people who did say that the first few hours of the Witcher 3 was a bit boring.

Shutting down the forums didn't help either it was twitter and reddit that tore this thing apart before launch. Not us. Who would have thought that 144 characters would force people to give simple un-nuanced feedback that makes things seem worse than they are? Some people at EA really need to be asking serious questions of their PR department.

That was a very interesting read & I'd say that more people should have a read of it & calm down, form their own opinions or wait until full reviews can be done to be sure.
All I have to say on this subject for now.

While I generally agree that first impressions are, of course limited, there are certain things that can be very well drawn from them. The most important one would be: Overall level of quality/craftsmanship... like the horrible facial animations. Everything else: Writing, plot, game systems, etc. Can and probably will change over the course of - especially - such a long game, but some things just have to work on first impressions, or they will never work.

So according to Forbes, we can assume the game will get better after around 10 hours or so?

I believe 5 hours is more than anough to form a proper opinion about a game, not a final one of course, but a reasonable one. Open world or not.
I mean, take ME2 for example and think its first 5 hours. God, you could easily tell the greatness of that game. You would alrady have had epic moments like the Normandy blowing up, the Normandy Reborn, meeting characters like Mordin and Aria, the combat was very well defined, etc. Sure, you would only have truly experienced ME2 after completing the Suicide Mission, but you would already know it was a great game.
Same with open world games like Red Dead Redemption, GTA V or The Witcher 3. You would enjoy those games the more you played them, but 5 hours in you could already see their overwhelming qualities.

You have max 10 hours with the game (sp and mp combined), but it should take between 3 and 5 hours (character creation excluded) to complete the content available in SP (unless you dally around too much I guess).

Good find. That was a good article that made some great points. I agree with the author that this method of previewing a game isn't a good method of doing it. Personally, it's the reason I'm waiting until full release rather than use Origin Access to play just the first 10 hrs.

Same with open world games like Red Dead Redemption, GTA V or The Witcher 3. You would enjoy those games the more you played them, but 5 hours in you could already see their overwhelming qualities. The problem I have with the start of your quote is that when you refer to ME2, you are referring to a sequel. A sequel with a story and characters already established which allows it to delve right into the action and continue its story. ME:A has been emphasized so many times that its a brand new story with new characters and lore. This is as much of a remake of ME1 as anything that Bioware has made. So the story is going to take a lot of time to be told whilst gradually showing the player things to do, and by some reviews out there is a huge amount of content. Witcher 3 again was an established game, Witcher 1 on the other hand....took awhile for it to kick in. Again I just want to add that this constant complaint about Face Animations. I'm just unsure what are on earth people are complaining about? Why the double standards? People that loved Fallout and Skyrim for example, a company that makes horrible buggy games with poor face animations gets a pass but this game doesn't? My goodness It's becoming harder and harder to even read people's views. This is just ridiculous.

Who would have thought that 144 characters would force people to give simple un-nuanced feedback that makes things seem worse than they are? Some people at EA really need to be asking serious questions of their PR department. It gets better Von, someone has set up bot accounts to endlessly tweet the RPS and other negative reviews. (Not paranoia regardless of game quality one way or the other someone was mad enough to do this.) They're deliberately drowning out the positives. Theres even an accont that deletes its tweets after a set time so it can tweet the exact same tweet later on without breaking the rules. I can't prove it (Or i would have started a thread) other than to say I've run accounts for years on twitter, including a popular parody of the immigration minister. I can see a bot from a mile away, even the good ones have tells.

Ugh I hate reddit when I did testing for raids in an MMO watching them make a shit storm because they were too hard made me want to quit (6 months later "oh they're too easy" jee almost like things get easy overtime!). I just hate all of reddits gaming community in general. Maybe I'm just jaded and a Cynical bastard.
