How long do you guys realistically think it will take Bioware to issue a patch that actually improves the facial animations (something they claimed to do before the game went gold but clearly didn't) or implements a DA:I style CC via a Black Emporium-type thingy?

They did improve them, some of them are noticeably better than in older footage, but then a lot of them are still awful and non of them are that good. I don't think any patch is gonna fix these issues, this is what you get. Let's hope the bulk of this is just at the beginning of the game.

Please show me a side by side example of a facial animation that actually improved. One reason I think they gated us where they did is because they didn't want anyone making it to Kadara to see how the infamous disarm scene plays out and compare it to the trailer... I remember one of the devs said they fixed the "exploding mouths" glitch and bragging about it in Twitter but there are SO MANY SCENES where the character's lips 'explode' outwards 2-4 inches from their face when they talk - they end up looking like a goofy baboon doing a mating call. Totally unnatural.

As I've said in another thread, I think that even if they improve the CC somehow, it won't be near as what anyone is asking for. Unfortunately. As for the time of release, probably one month after launch, if they do it, that is.
Five years, man.. five years. What happened?

I don't know... it's especially embarrassing when one of the devs was interviewed and how he bragged about how good the facial animations were. "All-time high" is how he described their top-tier work /sarcasm. Why couldn't they just copy the DAI CC? The game runs in the same engine... why did the devs lie and say that the CC is very similar to the one in DAI because they really liked that one and didn't want to "re-invent the wheel"?!?!

If they are smart they use this early access period to really start on a new patch. Thousands are playing it and giving feedback and that is a big enough sample size to go by. If we are lucky, we might have a patch within 7 - 10 days of launch. We'll see though. When it comes to animations, i am not certain this can be fixed in a patch, but they could fix the eyes, some shadow and light in certain conversations to take focus away from the animations.

They promised the stars and delivered nothing even close and were universally panned for it. Sales were most certainly hurt. A better route for Bioware devs to have taken would have been silence. Don't brag about something that's bad. Simple.

Totally unnatural. Don't have a side by side example but the video with Natalie Dormer shows the early scene with her character and it looks less buggy in the actual game. Watching it again tho the difference is minor and it's still quite buggy. I highly doubt that's why they gated the trial.

I'm not saying its right, but it's frequent even in large corporate deals. I personally left the profession after making a ton of money because it was sometimes required of you to hit the numbers even from a consultative rather than transactional approach.

Anyone expecting any big changes moving forward.... it's not gonna happen. Maybe some little tweaks here and there but that's it.

They'll get something out in the first week or two, maybe by end of the month. It will either be entirely fixes, or maybe have a bitttt of feature stuff that they just couldn't initially squeeze in.
April-May will have the more substantial stuff and May-August the continuing support for at least the sake of DLC.

The best of MEA's facial animations are better than any Bioware game ever before. Its just that most of the better stuff has some bothersome flaws. And that that there's a whole slew of worse stuff. And not just for minor NPCs you talk to at some kind of distance, but secondary NPCs that we're supposed to have enjoyable conversations and scenes with. Meaning the whole product of it comes off as mediocre. When even the critical path has ridiculous stuff happening, that's a problem. But its nice to know that when they put the work and time into it, we CAN get GREAT looking scenes with believable expressions. CAN.

Initially I was ambivalent about when the patch will be released. Bioware exhibited reception to fan feed back and now appear amenable to even patching things, I also believe they were complacent and a little arrogant in their assumptions that everyone would tolerate the current state of the game.
Now the rhetoric has escalated as if Bioware intentionally sabotaged the CC to make people purchase improvements, I can't discern how reliable this is. Conspiracies are rampant, disgruntled gamers and hyperbolic reviews are obscuring what the marketing wishes to establish. R/gaming on Reddit has already been censored, omitting criticism about animations.
I don't know what the patch will contain but I think it's naive to think Bioware aren't ' concerned' and dismiss it as negligible 'haters.'
I think we will be seeing a patch within the first week of the European release.

I hope they make it a continuous work in progress regarding the animations, so even if takes a couples months to get it right, they get it right.
