This interesting tweet talks of what makes great level design. So, which levels/maps (defined as an area uninterrupted by load screens) in any Mass Effect game were the most interesting/challenging/pretty to you (including multiplayer maps)? If we have enough suggestions (determined by likes) we can have a poll for the best one (and here's a technical primer...)

I think Dossier: The Assassin is my favorite mission out of any ME game, level design wise. I'd say that was the biggest highlight of ME2 for me personally as well. Everything actually fit like a glove, and I could definitely understand why it was the first mission showed in E3 footage.

Collector ship was my favorite. For ME3, maybe Grissom.
On a similar note, I'm worried about MEA. I'm far more of a fan of level design than open settings. Unless the open world is sandboxy, this shit sucks. Even moreso for MP, but I can't imagine they'll make even MP open world.

Never played it, don't like most of the game.. but my favorite level there is the swamp.. umm.. always forget the name. It's the only one that's still "level" like.

Firebase White for the multiplayer and that one N7 mission is probably one of my favourite of the open areas. The buildings at the back and the raised area in the middle make it good for lots of different combat scenarios.

I was kind of surprised it's a fairly populated planet. I didn't get that impression at all by playing it. Gameplay wise though, the end is kind of tough.

I haven't played MP in ages but I hated Hydra as well. It would never fail to get the objective right in the middle of the wide open space (lower level, of course, so enemies would also get a height advantage) where everyone and their cousins could shoot at you from every possible.

I was kind of surprised it's a fairly populated planet. I didn't get that impression at all by playing it. Gameplay wise though, the end is kind of tough. It felt very much like abandoned and inactive industrial sea docks area to me; and the one merc does imply it is a "ship" dock of some kind when Shep asked about their defenses). I loved all the posibilities for sniping in that level, although it also works well without using the SR by using throw, shockwave or concussive shot to knock the mercs off all the walls. On my first playthrough, I took Zaeed and Garrus and had them both using their SRs as well and we had a really great run with the level just really flowing well from beginning to end. It's been a favorite of mine ever since. The last area can be very challenging (with all those Krogan and the mech coming at you and the door sealing behind you)... but that's just the way I like it. For those that don't though, there is a way to use the door itself to your advantage that makes the area really easy (even on insanity)... i.e. you can continually open and close the door as long as you don't actually enter the area.

I found BDtS to certianly be a step up from the "average" warehouse experience of ME1, but the overall flow of the whole DLC seemed rather "choppy" to me and the end bulding battle can get rather buggy. Several times I've had to reload it and do it over to get Balak to trigger. I find the Ilos/Citadel end mission flows very well. I know it's more linear that RPG people like, but repeating the same sort of building three times in a DLC just for the sake of giving the player some choice as to what one they want to do first just doesn't seem like a really good use of that "open-choice" idea. IMO, Noveria handled that aspect much better than BDtS. Also, going out to the far corners of the map to locate the engineers really works against the urgency issue of shutting down the torches and I only just recently discovered the grenade cache tucked way over in a corner right near the outer boundary of the map... some exploration is great, but the "incentive" needed to be more in tune with the mission plot, IMO. One should be more likely to stumble onto the sundry items while looking for the main mission buildings. In BDtS, the three torchees are clustered near the center of map and so obvious... meaning that you really had no reason to explore the map corners where the other stuff is located.

It's one of those colony prefab units you see on the overworlds alot but there's one in the building there for some reason. 9 times out of 10 I've cleared all the enemies and Balak won't trigger and I'll go over there and as soon as the door opens, out pops a Batarian and once you kibosh him, Balak shows up. What happens to me is that, sometimes, after having killed all the Batarians in the area outside the door, I can't get the door to open in order to kill the one left behind it. I've gone around the area several times looking for other enemies, but none show up other than the one behind that door. In that case, it's impossible to clear the level in order to trigger the confrontation with Balak without reloading and just doing that battle over again. I'm playing on the Xbox 360, so I don't know if this bug affects the PC version.
