I swear I recall it being stated, but I cannot find, or remember, the answer.
I want my character to have a Leadership background (Sentinel powers/profile) but they are more a Soldier profile (Security training). Does the training we select do anything but alter our starting abilities?

I choose the first option (I'm not sure what the name was) and Ryder's background was he guarded a mass relay in the Milky Way.
Was it the same for you?

I figured it might so I went with Leader too. I didn't come across a point where it did matter though, but we'll find out when it goes live I suppose. I don't think it makes a difference though, but I hope I'm wrong.

No, training option is just there to give you first skills and passive to start with.

I don't think you can re-spec it, and the unlocks are fixed. Only matters if you re-spec early on (you can't, for instance, buy up Singularity on respeccing if you took the Leader training option then re-spec, because Singularity unlocks only after x amount of points are spent in Biotics).

The trainings are just classes. You get different starting abilities and passives; just like the first three games essentially.
