Ashley and James are the duo to beat for me. ME1 is dragged down by Kaidan and ME2 is dragged down by Jacob. James is the only starting human dude I don't find less interesting than a cinder block with a little face drawn on it. I'm loving Cora so far but I've yet to warm up to Liam. Maybe that will change when I spend more time with him beyond the progression gate placed on the trial.

I can't stand Ashley. I hate Miranda with a passion. Kaidan and Jacob are the epitome of meh. I know next to nothing about Cora and Liam. Yep, I'm with the "Zaeed rules" crowd. disgustednoise, what is happening in your avatar? It looks like a "whoever smelt it dealt it " move. No idea, but it's from the movie scene so he's sitting next to Cora...

I voted Ashley & Kaidan. Only because Jacob is pretty much the opposite of kickass, and what little I've seen of Liam doesn't look all that awesome either. That being said, both Miranda and Cora are pretty cool, but not cool enough to support their partners. Ashley & Kaidan are quite competent on their own, so it's two decent characters against two sets of good and not so good.
If I were to choose two most kickass (in terms of raw power) human squadmates across all the games, I'd say Cora and Kaidan. Her biotics are apparently super powerful and she's got years of military training. He's a powerful biotic as well and possesses a pretty impressive tech knowledge, on top of the general military experience.

Miranda and Jacob!! The other two pairs were good but I will bet on Miranda and Jacob if they are all thrown into a pit fight

Team Eden Prime rules, though Ashley and James might have them beat if they were an option. Kaidan has Lift though. Hell, Ashley and anyone is fine by me really.
Miranda is magnificently overpowered, but Jacob serves no purpose in either gameplay or story.

Of the three pairings listed - I'd go with a leveled up Cora and Liam. They can tear through some pretty serious hoards of enemies and I don't have to tell them what to do to get it done. Of other human pairings not mentioned but still actually possible to play together on a team, I favor Jack and Miranda. I used them on several SMs together and they were just awesome - stripping barriers and then Jack "bowling" the enemies off the platforms left and right. Fantasy pairing - probably Miranda and Cora.

I just finished a run on ME1 and absolutely loved the Ashley/Kaidan combo. I so wish I could have threw the blue one at the bomb instead and resumed with A/K in ME3.

Kasumi, Jack and Zaeed are the only human companion I actually liked in ME. Cora and Liam are basically in a limbo: I don't hate them, but I'm not attached to them.

I agree- I wish they did more with Kasumi, she was awesome! Although I will say that I loved Miranda- especially her dynamic with Jack. I dunno, I felt like the pay off with both of them was really great. I really liked Cora in Andromeda, she has/d a lot of potential- I'm hoping to read her book soon. I liked Liam fine, I wasn't a big fan of his impulsive decision in his loyalty missions and felt like they could've done so much more with him.

Kasumi and Zaeed Lol this is the true answer! I absolutely loved Zaeed. That said, my answer to the choices in the polls is probably obvious via my avatar. Ashley & Kaidan. 1. Ashley is my favorite squadmate even though they butchered her in ME2 and ME3. Kaidan has carth voice so that's kinda cool but he never makes it past virmire. Up until that point he was at least not annoying like some others on this list. 2. Miranda was passable as a squadmate, but that catsuit was horrible so she got stuck on the ship most of the time. Jacob really weighs this team down however with he towering piles of meh "oh hey... you... who are you again? Uh, EDI did you authorize this guy to be on the ship?" 3. Liam is probably the most incompetent and annoying squadmate of all time so... sorry Cora you have no shot to win this vote. (And if I'm being honest, Cora was rather dull herself) 4. James lol... didn't even make it on the poll. But Kaidan > James so... Ashley/James has no shot to win this poll regardless of my love for her.

Well, Ashley is the queen of Mass Effect, so any duo containing her wins automatically. Kaidan's fine, but I prefer James.

What if I say that I genuinely like Ash & Kaidan as characters? They were awesome in their own way. Cora & Liam have potential but don't know how they'll handle them, if they continue I just finished a run on ME1 and absolutely loved the Ashley/Kaidan combo. I so wish I could have threw the blue one at the bomb instead and resumed with A/K in ME3. Take all my likes! Down with the blue plague

All of the humans in ME2 > the rest.
Cora & Liam are the worst. One is just dumb and doesn't really need to be there, and the other talks about nothing but her life as a huntress.

Miranda is a pretty sweet all-purpose character in ME2, and I used her quite often - she could strip barriers and armor very well with warp, and overload is perfect for shields. Plus, slam is such a sweet move. And her squad buff is arguably the best in all of ME2.
Kaidan in ME3 essentially takes on this role, and overcomes his prior gameplay shortcomings in ME1.
James is also useful as a tank. Plus, grenades are easy enough to spam.
All the other human squadmates have a handful of virtues (Ashley in ME1 is a great squadmate in gameplay,) but rather atrocious and boring in ME3 (she's a Garrus clone without the useful ability to strip barriers.) She does offer one hell of a perk power - Marksman on a Soldier is magnificent, IMO, especially when you're packing a high-damage machine gun.
Jacob in ME2 has pull, but his weapons are awful. Kasumi is useful, but she just doesn't fit my play style. Zaeed has the same abilities as Ashley in ME3, more or less. Jack's biotics are strong, but she's too squishy for my tastes, and her weapons are awful.

As for best human squadmates?
Well, Miranda is the one I most identify with and regard as one of the most complex and nuanced characters in BioWare history (particularly in ME2.) ME3 flanderizes her plot a bit, but keeps a lot of the identifiable aspects of her character, such as her self-reliability and development in ME2 to ME3 in place.
Ashley is not someone I like at all - she hits all the wrong notes in ME1 and ME2, and is a total non-entity in ME3 after Mars. I kept her around to romance her, then leave her for Miranda in ME2, hoping to get some sort of conflict between the two come ME3 but... aside from some very catty shade that Ashley makes about Miranda in the hospital, there's nothing, and her personality completely disappears sans her usual bug up her ass about Cerberus. My Shepard is pretty pro-Cerberus, and I wanted the ability to really throw her idiocy back in her face in ME3 - thing is, you barely get any conversations with her at all, and her scenes are just bland and generic.
Kaidan is far more tolerable in ME1 and ME3, and I found him to be a much more thoughtful companion in ME3, given his reflection over his and Shepard's past. Plus, actually being able to interact with him has made him better. I'd prefer him alive in ME3, if not for the meta-gaming and headcanon I resort to for Shepard/Miranda/Ashley behind the scenes, and Ashley's necessity in that plot (I really put Ashley through the ringer, and she doesn't make it out alive.)
Jack was never my favorite - I don't like her uncontrolled, moody temper-tantrums, nor did I see her development in ME3 as realistic (she's a psychotic, former mass-murdering criminal and delinquent, and becoming an instructor at a prestigious academy for humanity's most gifted youths is just not something I'd see - especially when the development from 'wakened from cryo-imprisonment in one of the roughest prisons in the galaxy to be used as biotic fodder on a suicide mission' to 'mellowed out, kinda edgy-but-hip instructor' with granola girl vibes in the Citadel DLC happens in what is implied to be under a year. I think having her being off in the Terminus systems, amassing a group of abandoned biotic kids and looking out for them while still being a criminal is more realistic.
Jacob is... I don't necessarily enjoy the guy, but I don't dislike him either - he's affable to my Shepard, he has a conscious, and he has a stable, sensible personality. I prefer people like that, and he knows his place in the pecking order. The only thing I never liked about him was the implied former-relationship with Miranda - not that it's 'bad,' but I just don't see either of them being interested in the other. Jacob even states that Miranda requires a man who is more... sophisticated, I think is what I'd go with. Plus, I think Miranda is drawn to a challenger and equal - she seems like the type who appreciates power and achievement, and someone who doesn't settle. And for his part, I don't think Miranda is Jacob's cup of tea - beyond looks, which are quite considerable (in-universe, she's probably one of the most beautiful human women who have ever lived) - she's too... detached, ambiguous, and complex for someone like Jacob, and I think it's something he'd have an issue with. Jacob is the type of person who seems to have a more... stringent moral center than Miranda. And going along with the 'settling' aspect, Jacob lacks the same kind of ambition as someone like Miranda.
Zaeed is likable enough - he's paid to be your man, and he never pretends to be anything different. He's affable enough, and deadly, and that's what counts on the battlefield. Plus, he's practical - he knows the score come ME3, and he's more than willing to offer what help he can provide. My Shepard is the type that doesn't really ask more than that.
Kasumi, I've never really gotten into. She's ok enough, and she's got a friendly and perky personality, but like Zaeed, she's there probably because she's been paid to be there. Which is, again, fine. She's got the skills and competency to justify her inclusion on the team, and for someone like my Shepard, that's all he really asks for.
James is pretty good - he has a surprising amount of depth to his character, and he's not just some macho-meathead. Sure, he's a bit green around aliens, but as far as battle and inner demons goes, he's been around the block, he knows the score, and, most importantly, he keeps an open-mind and is willing to learn. I like him a lot - the irony being that when I started ME3, I expected to be dismissive of him as just another alliance goon.

Then in Andromeda? Cora is alright, but she's pretty clearly meant to be a Miranda/Ashley hybrid. I don't really see any problems with the Miranda aspects at all (I kind of wish it was addressed more,) but the Ashley correlation (much like my opinion of Ashley herself) is pretty weak. Plus, I don't really dig with her fawning over the Asari. I get it, but I don't dig it.
Liam started off alright, but come his loyalty mission, I lost a lot of respect for him, what with winging a plan and refusing to let Ryder in on his plan, and nearly throwing away everything over his idealism. He's going to have to have a lot of growing up to do eventually.

I remember one PT where I was on Pinnacle Station. I did a lot of mixing and matching of squadmates. I had ONE squadmate who NEVER went down during Pinnacle. It was Kaidan.
