Theres some huge spoilers, i watched a bit of someone playing full game on youtube. About the kett: Theres 2 kinds of kett, exalted and true kett.
Destined(the unit) seem to be true kett from what ive seen. Theres also the archon and the cardinal(characters later in the story). They seem to be part of some huge empire not native to heleus.
The kett youve been mostly fighting appear to be mutated angara. The kett have this religious process called exaltation, where they mutate other creatures into a kett like creature. So the theory that the kett and the angara are the same was half correct.

Maybe the Kett has stolen the other arks as well to make a huge army which would more than likley overwhelm the Angra and the Nexus allied species, I think the achivments back this up as you have to save one of the arks

I don't think they are converting other races, I think they are converting themself.
I met 5 type of kett in the game : -The normal Kett -The heavy Kett -The dog Kett -The fiend Kett -The invisible Kett I scanned all of them and they shared all the same thing : modified DNA. But if some of them were true kett they shouldn't have those modification, or not so heavily. We also see them dissecting salarian, human and turian. Another weird thing was the dog kett, those can become invisible, and they can do it without any technology. However there are not alone with that ability, the destined one can become invisible too. So how does that work.
But the weirdest thing : Dog and Fiend wear jacket. If they were converted beast why bother dressing them ? Except if they are not converted beast but simply Kett. I believe they study other races to include their DNA on their own, making them stronger. Krogan have stamina, strength and regeneration.

It is possible the destined are another converted race thats been turned into the kett. The way i saw it happen was that they had some angara in some religious seremony, who seemed to accept the "exaltation"(i dont know if they were drugged or not). Then the Kett officer or something named "Cardinal" took one of them from the tanks they had stepped into and injected some kind of fluid into him, thus starting the mutation. The result was the angara turned into the kett unit weve seen called the "chosen".

So let me get this straight. The big bads are mutating other species into foot soldiers for their armies?
Hmm, that sounds vaguely familiar.
They're not liquefying people into capital ships too are they?

Theres also the possibilty that all the people weve seen, including archon are just hosts, and the kett themselves are some sort of parasite which attaches itself to other races and controls them. I didnt look too much into it, just saw this one scene.

Based on the playthrough I watched it looks like the Kett indoctrinate the individuals into their religion (for lack of a better term) with 'Exaltation' being the final step.
In a way I think the Kett are supposed to represent the dark side of exploration and colonialism. They might be a part of a much larger empire that considers itself superior to all other life and tries to either convert any civilization they come into contact with into more Kett or kills them outright.

Hmm. I kind of liked the idea that they just had exoskeletons since we haven't seen that before. This could still be fun but I am a bit disappointed.

If I had to guess about the Kett and their motive (and the whole plot in general) I think this is what I'm figuring out: The kett, unlike the Milkyway galaxy species who developed along the path the reaper chose for them around their technology as a legacy, have a different approach to evolution since they are from another galaxy and it is possible they've never developed AI or anything ressembling VI to assist them and instead went on developing a more biological approach through mutation with their technology. Which is why the Archon feels weak compared to Alec Ryder in the opening cinematic when he's in the Vault and try to do what Alec did but nothing happened. The Archon knows the native from the milkyway galaxy can interface easily with the Remnant because they have knowledge from AI. The Archon is probably seeking what allowed the pathfinder to open the vault: SAM, the artificial intelligence, you guessed it, I'm ready to bet the Archon want to "have access" to SAM and that is through capturing the pathfinder to allow the Kett to dominates the Andromeda galaxy with the help of an unlimited army of self-construct machine

for once, I'm not happy to be right.
But whatever, it's not -as- bad as my original theory... but I'm a little smug over being right that the chosen are angara,
I called it after looking at the leg and facial structure.
