Stupid question, but I can't figure out a few gameplay features.
Is there a pause function like there used to be in the original trilogy? What about using squadmates powers? Or medigel?
It's very different from the original trilogy.

Wish I could help you but I burned through my 10 trial hours the day I got access. Ifaik though, there isn't any medigel. There are shield booster consumables that you can access from the weapon wheel though. I THINK it was [TAB].

It's very different from the original trilogy. They removed tactical pause because they decided that people used it too much and it ruined pace of play. Squadmates do their own thing whenever they feel like it. You have no control other than telling who to shoot and to get into cover. I don't know what you meant by a change to medigel. I didn't really come across the issue in SP since I never bothered reviving my squadmates because they died too fast and frequently.I also don't really remember a button for it either.

no, there is no pause, you can't chooe your squad member's powers or weapons, just tell them to attack or move

Shit. Like I understand their reasoning for changes in gameplay. Shake things up, you know. But I'm kind of fucked then. Can't play my usual styles of gameplay. Oh well, let's play with the different powers/profiles and see what we can do.

Oh well, let's play with the different powers/profiles and see what we can do. Yeah, I haven't really enjoyed the changes at all either. I used to love being a Vanguard and then taking two squaddies with primer/stripping abilities and going to town. Both in ME2 and ME3. Me2, strip shields, charge, shotgun to face, melee, shotgun again if still miraculously alive. Repeat with warp for armor/barriers. In ME3 just flying around at top speed for 40 hours was a blast. Now with the new squadmate system, only having 3 active powers, longer cooldowns, a cooldown on nova... I can't really vanguard the same. Its a lot slower paced. Like a lot a lot. Tried infiltrator and it was okay, but cloak doesn't actually hide you from enemies. They just don't shoot at you for a few seconds while you're invisible. They still track you and follow you wherever you go. I don't know if it is a PC bug or intentional design to make cloak less powerful, but its sure lame when you cloak to get out of a pickle but you're still in that pickle no matter what.

I had the exact same questions you did. I felt stupid for not figuring it out so it's nice to know those features are indeed not available anymore. Now I am just hyper aware of where all those health boxes are (same as the ammo boxes) so I can bump up against it if I'm in a pickle.

I did get to spend the last 3 hrs of a friends early access since he had enough after some hrs. To me, they put more effort into the game play (combat) less into the RPG portion of the game. Squad mates appear to be more useless now than they were in DAI. Meat shields with whom you have little control over.
In the prior games you could create your character however you wanted to within the skills available. You could then pick squad-mates and tailor there skills to your weaknesses and then control there powers on the battlefield. Now your tailoring your game to your squads weaknesses since you can't pick their powers or weapons for them. I guess this is where the profiles some in. For other than meat shields or romance options they have little use. I guess if you like listening to dialog written for a nickelodeon audience there's that...
To me that isn't expanding your options for RPg which is what Bioware games in the past was known for, it's adding limitations. FO4 comes to mind.
