There is no save game import. So choose whatever platform you like.

In a briefing section, there was a section of the nexus destined to tell new aliens Milky Way's history. In fact it exists for new player to familiarize with the lore.
I think the imported data will only concern that part and nothing else.

The only thing that comes up is during character creation the game asks if Shepard was male or female. There is no import feature. I think they want to have the game acknowledge the OT but not tie itself to it.

No, just Shepard Male/Female.
Lots, LOTS of callouts to the Trilogy, but Bioware Montreal decided not to burden themselves with trying to directly connect game decisions on top of everything else they had to figure out.
However, there's a Mass Effect Archives system starting sometime soon, that right now is only to take face imports, but:
1)Is likely to take MEA choices into a future game, like the case for 'DA4' sometime.
2)Is possibly, for all we know, able to take trilogy choices if Bioware desires it to.
