I don't this game is trying to overthrow the first trilogy. I doesn't need to. It's a new start. OK, the scores are not in the 9's or 10's, but it's the start of a new series, and I'm sure it's going to get better overtime. Yeah it's not up there with the other 3, but why should it be. I was not expecting it to be. All I want is a Mass Effect game that is at the very least, good. It doesn't have to be great. That remains to be seen. All it has to be is a good addition to the franchise. Do you realise that boware is around the block for 2 decades? This ought to be perfect! As a fan myself i will not support them. i ll do them harm. You too should not give them your money now. Bioware should evolve and i say that while they are my favorite devlepoler. this is the first game of them i wont buy at least soon. I even loved Da2 , and they got their pass back then. Instead they repeat their errors once again . They game their MASS EFFECT title to the MP team that made omega. Are we serious? Do not give them the impression they did well this time.

Then he goes on to saying that "Mass Effect: Andromeda feels small and boring. It works like the series always has; you go around the galaxy, find characters, and take on missions. What that really comes down to is following a waypoint, talking to someone or fighting someone, and then getting a new one to follow." ... *slowly claps* congratulations that is the usual mechanics of video games. He then continues to end the review by saying "Worst of all, it’s going to disappoint fans of the Mass Effect series." as if we played the Mass Effect games for the completely bug-free parade/harem of models. And he literally just wrote that it works THE SAME as the original series? How could he say that at the same time as he is saying that it will disappoint the fans of said series? Seriously, I read that and I'm like--this is bad... how? Lots of these reviews with poor scores read the same way when you get down to their specifics (not counting complaints about bugs and UI issues, which are unambiguously bad and near universal). Clearly there's a disconnect between what they want and what I want out of this game. I'll see soon enough.

Its a mixed bag it seems, what really hurts it is that its could have used more time in the oven to iron out the graphical and glitch issues and also that its not innovative like the other games that have come out so soon, just more of the same, and some people really seem to compare it to the original trilogy and its characters, which frankly can skew some views, whil i think it should be taken as much as its own as it could. Me games were good rpgs for their time, apparently today the systems that were in place are not enough anymore.
Also i find it odd that some people really adore this games fast paced combat while other have heavily criticized it. I also dotn get why some reviewers say that the game has more depth in its side quests than DAI, while others say its the exactly same thing. What the hell is going on?
Also yeah gamespot, it usually gives lower scores to all the games than the others, but 6? Wtf?

Didn't expect this but what can be done. Chances this will be a trilogy are much worse now. I say they should continue Andromeda, Bioware has too big of a tendency to throw away anything criticized (inventory, mako etc) instead of fixing and iterating, but they'll probably just ditch the whole thing and do something else in ME universe. As a point of order, ME2 is certainly not as good as people think it is. It was extremly polished though, similar to Assassin's Creed 2 around the same time. Presentation matters.

In the end of the day, I'm glad I went to download the early access (didn't play it yet). Now I can see if I enjoy the game or not (and if it works or not). If not, 60$ saved and a broken heart gained.
I wonder how the game would have looked like under Blizzard or CDPR...

Welph, that's ten points below what I was expecting, it wasn't going to review as high as the trilogy for sure, but this was quite an unpleasant surprise.
I am just now dealing with the Asari's Ark question, and I'm having tons of fun so far. Yet, the reviews can't have their weight taken away, and Bioware needs to address the said issues.
Here's hoping this sells well, though. Or else EA is going to shelve the franchise, probably.

Averaging 8 on Spanish sites.
There seems to be a consensus that the game is probably good overall, with good combat, some technical fails, and some ups on downs on writing.
Beyond that, the feeling is that this is no epic saga. While the game in itself is not bad, its vision is lesser than that of the OT. Lacking really memorable moments and lines, breathtaking encounters, and over the top big-goddamn-hero-ism, the game will probably not be remembered.

Aaaah Gamespot. I had a falling out with them many moons ago after they dropped a bad review for a game everyone else was praising. It wasn't the bad review that bothered me - different strokes for different folks and all. It was how much they advertised this bad review, trying to generate loads of traffic to a site that uses ads. It reeked of making money out of outrage.
So now I'm never surprised to see them drop a 6 for a AAA game.
Not that I'm about to claim this game should be all 9's. I was expected 7-8s and it seems on the whole I was right. I wasn't going to preorder because I was hugely sceptical but ending up doing so last week because it was going for £39. As it's not out here til Thursday I figured I could just cancel if it was that bad when reviews dropped today. But it's been dispatched already. So I guess I'll have to judge for myself.
and as someone who didn't adore TW3 - comments sections over Western RPG releases are such a joy these days :oki:

Also i find it odd that some people really adore this games fast paced combat while other have heavily criticized it. There are some polarizing factors: - 3rd-Person-action Combat OR Pause-based tactical combat - a definite step toward the former.
- Combat built on the multiplayer model - that's clearly going to gain both fans and haters.
- Not Shepard, Garrus, etc: Ok with that? Or not? Nostalgia is hard to compete with.
- Characters: No familiar characters brought back, something every other BioWare sequel has done.
- Change to more open world from the linear corridors. That's polarizing.
- Bugs aren't helping.
- Animations that are not 'oh-so-pretty' aren't helping.
- And finally, possibly a kick up the ass from some reviewers who were embarrassed praising ME3 to the skies last time to regain their credibility.
Where you sit on those axes will legitimately justify both stances of loving it (once the bugs are fixed) and thinking it sucks balls.
That it's at 7.6 average reflects that polarization. Something just over the 8 would have been met with more of a shrug, and that's half a mark away.

After having read the reviews on Destructoid, Gamespot and Loading, all talking about a weak story and characters. Telling me that I'll have another DA:I in front of me; no thanks. I'll save my money. But the worst part is that I have been looking forward to this game for a long time. But I told myself after DA:I that I would not play another game with a weak story, lead and npc's.
The thing is, I liked the exploration and even the gather/fetch quests in DA:I. But I never cared for the story or for the Inquisitor. The complete opposite of what I felt for the OT and DA2. Maybe they will cancel any sequel and put the resources into a story DLC that will rectify some of this but they will most likely have lost me already.

Maybe everyone had just too big expectations... I certainly think that's part of it. Bioware Montreal was in an impossible position. I said it in another thread but Mass Effect means a lot of different things to everyone, it'd be very hard for them to meet that. Another part of it though I think has to do with Open World games. The scope of the game was too large and aspects of the game suffered for it. Maybe its time for them to return to a more "intimate" type of game rather than going after that Skyrim money (that they never were going to get in the first place). Regardless of the reviews, I'm still looking forward to it.

No matter what BioWare does, they will hate and hate some more. BioWare is unfairly in a No Win Scenario.

This is kind of why I hate reviews at times. This is only going to make the bitch fest even more annoying. Certain people will latch onto a review that closely follows their ranting (good or bad) and shove it in the faces of people who don't agree. Take an actual look at the reviews, there are a few really positive reviews, a few really bad reviews and a metric ton of 'this is decent' reviews. If you actually read into the reviews too, seems people cant agree on anything but the bugs. Some people like the characters, some don't. Some like the writing, some dont. Some like the combat, some dont. etc...
All this tells me is that you really shouldn't be bothered with this crap and that you should really put experience over someone elses opinion. YOU might love the game, or maybe not. Only you can find that out. The trial was a terrible decision given that most people seem to agree that the game opens up a ton more after Eos so Id recommend playing the game until after Eos and if you dont like it, return it. (at least on PC, origin has the return policy of like 24 hours after first playing. Not sure about Xbox or Playstation).
Either way, I actually enjoyed the trial despite its flaws. Im not blind to the bugs or the animation annoyances but I enjoyed pretty much everything else and Im looking forward to playing it still. For those of you who agree with me on that part, I'll see you in Andromeda...hopefully in the multiplayer otherwise something serious has gone wrong with the single player to allow other people to join in...

I dont put much stock into reviews nowadays.
I form my opinions by watching mainly twitch streams and youtube vids.
And im glad i played the trial too.
I like the combat and the skill system looks great. Enviroment gfx are gorgeous but human hair and face textures mostly look terrible, along with bad animations and face animations. Humans look like they were made last gen.
Im still getting the game, but it deffo has problems.

The Buy Rent review is not bad. The reviewer says the game is good just glitchy, and that's obviously not something you want at release but it can be patched.
