I'm having a hard time seeing this game doing well in sales with the reception it's getting. Interest wasn't very high to begin with anyway. I think this might be the last Mass Effect game we get. I mean we know they never planned on continuing the series after ME3. The fact that they did anyway, and gave it to their B team, kinda shows EA/Bioware weren't totally invested in keeping the franchise going strong.
I think with the mediocre reception, if sales aren't great, I can absolutely see them putting Mass Effect to bed. If anything they're probably way more focused on making sure their new IP is great, because there's gonna be a lot riding on that.
I mean if they didn't give it to the B team who were they going to give it to? DAI was very important and need to be given to the best people. If DAI failed that could have been the end for bioware as a company. They also have the new IP, you can't give that to B team either. It needs to be it's best otherwise it will fall flat on it's face. So really MEA got the short stick, it's a shame but I don't think this is the end of Mass effect. If the team does a stellar job with Patching and including story DLCs I could see another Mass effect game.

All the haters said DA:I would bomb and it didn't, they still say it did because EA doesn't release sales figures so we only know it's place in charts for physical console versions and that EA said it was their best release or something.
Anyway we don't know how this will do. Let's wait and see.

Interest wasn't very high to begin with? Not from what I've seen!
I don't think this'll be the last Mass Effect game, but they might have to take stock of things. Which means it could be awhile before we get a sequel.
Also, considering the budget for this game was in the $40 - $50 million range, and they'll sell probably 5 - 6 million copies over the next few years, they're still going to make bank on it.

I'd be surprised if the budget was that low or sales that high
Oh my god, OP, why do you have such a weak nerve? For fuck's sake, just play the game and see how you like it instead of having a meltdown over other's people opinions. We get it, you're terrified. You did countless threads about it already. Despite how excited you were.
I do think these reviews are low for a ME game, regardless - 75 ain't a bad score, if it stays that way, even then, I think I will love this game. But I need to complete this shit first before pulling the trigger, and so far - it's a blast.
So, hell fuckin' yes - try to control yourself. If you can't deal with the reviews, stay away from places that are talking about them.
It's just that, reviews. You might disagree with them, or not. This game's fate lies with its sales, and it will probably do well, it's Mass Effect, unless there's another twist in this story, but that's something we have to wait and see. And meanwhile, I will be playing it, thankful for a new ME game when it wasn't needed in the bigger picture, but here it is.

Doubt it, though EA's expectations with sales will be deciding factor. ME has no close competitors in industry ( yet), but they may end up putting the sequel on hold( like SE did with last Deus Ex). Something positive may come out of this..new writers, better animation tech and someone more qualified in the lead.

7.5 isn't an objectively a bad score, but don't tell me for one second that we don't live in a gaming world where anything less than an 8 is basically gutter tier
I'm not concerned about my personal enjoyment of the game since I enjoyed the demo, but I am concerned about the sales figures and whether or not we will see a sequel.
What a lot of the issues really boil down to is a lack of finesse. It was the studios first full release, and the first Mass Effect game in the frostbite engine, and it shows. The right pieces are all there, but there's a lack of refinement and consistency.
Now that they have MEA under their belt and all of the existing assets are in place it should be easy to build off of that, fix the flaws and create a sequel that improves on all of the weaker elements. If they don't get a chance to do that because of a lack of sales or a higher-up decision it will be a massive disappointment and a wasted opportunity.

Knew from a long time ago that it wasn't being made by the A team and so what. People still buy COD and that's being made from the A team, B team, etc. Doesn't make them any better or worse but people still buy the games because they enjoy the games. I don't understand why worry about what other people think or if they will buy the game when it's your money to buy the game and your time to play it.

That doesn't include the marketing budget, plus EA has to show their investors a good return. So even if they make money, that may not be enough to greenlight a sequel.
I am worried about Mass Effect's future. It's such a rich universe, that they stupidly threw away at the end of ME3, and didn't do any favours for in Andromeda. With both Bioware's A-teams working on other projects, who is there to make an Andromeda sequel if Montreal shows itself not be up to calibre?

Because gamers are freakin' brats that think everything is either Hitler or better than sex. Also, read my response again, oh wait - let me highlight it for you.
Get it now? Need a picture?

Incase anyone forgot.. DA2 received less than stellar reviews, yet the dragon age series endured nonetheless. Reviews for the game seen "decent" to "good"... nobody calling it great.. that is hardly a death knell for the series.. far from it.
They will, theoretically, learn from this and move on to make a better game next time. I don't imagine sales will be bad for the game.. perhaps not great, but I suspect decent sales.. thus the franchise will endure fine.
The problem is this game was made by a rookie studio... Bioware Montreal's resume includes the ME3 Omega DLC (bug ridden and worst written of all the dlc) and the multiplayer for ME3 (which was excellent.. likely why andromeda's combat is so good)... this is their first actual game... and the first game in the series not under the wing of Casey Hudson (producer, no longer at bioware). Hudson to my understanding was a taskmaster, but he was passionate and protective of the series when he helped make it... I suspect the series simply needs another passionate producer that is more demanding of his team than what this rookie studio has had.
Hopefully Bioware Montreal is just going through growing pains here and will get better next time around (assuming the next game doesn't go back to the original series team in bioware edmonton.. who are supposedly working on a new IP)

A 75 on metacritic isn't a death sentence..... Ghost Recon Wildlands has a lower score and you can bet your behind there will be more Ghost Recon games.
Now, Might Morphin Power Rangers game that got a 49? There's a death sentence.
Birthday wish officiator. Proud Jaal fangirl. Mom to a crazy preschooler who says funny crap. And a newborn who likes to party all night long.
Oh, what a world we live in where a game that is being widely praised as GOOD should be considered a failure and the death of its series. People have been yelling about the death of Final Fantasy for years, and yet FFXV was the fastest selling in the FF series. The name holds a lot of power. ME will always sell simply because it is ME. Beyond that, perhaps this new approach will attract new fans as well. Regardless, the game's financial success can only be measured when sales numbers come to light in the coming months.

I get that but I also see where he's coming from and to a certain degree I think you do have to care what other people think if you want a franchise to go on. Most of us I'm sure are fans of Mass Effect and a lot of us may want to see this franchise go on for longer. That will only happen if the interest is sustained and if this game sinks like the Titanic (which it may or may not who knows) then that could affect if we see another Mass Effect ever again.

Anything less than eight is considered gutter tier by a lot of people, but the actual games themselves are as good as whatever score they received objectively implies.

Yeah that's what I'm getting at. Although we can also bring up other issues such as IGN having the monopoly on pre-release material outside of BioWare itself, I don't trust them to be wholly objective after that
The MEA multiplayer doesn't rely upon facial animations or a CC. If that catches, there's a significant cash cow there.
