I think Mickey Gall is probably going to beat his ass but I'm rooting for my boy Punk anyways. He's never had the athleticism or gifted wrestling (actual wrestling) ability that Brock Lesnar's had so I'm not expecting him to do what Brock did. I do hope he gets some W's under his belt though. I'm also hoping Overeem knocks Miocic the fuck out.

Can't see him winning but I hope he at least gives a good account of himself.
More interested in Miocic vs Overeem tbh.

I'm interested to see how he will perform in the ring even though he is going to lose.
I have my money on overeem as well. Match will be dangerous

It wasn't pretty and Overeem certainly got the better of him on the feet but Miocic proved that he can take a shot at least, a valuable asset at heavyweight.
I suspect he'll fight Velasquez next but Dos Santos looks the more interesting match up to me.

Yeah, MMA at the UFC level isn't something you transition to with a year or two of training and really expect to compete.
Brock Lesnar was a mutant-beast athlete with an undefeated wrestling record at a time when there wasn't nearly as much money in MMA, so pro wrestling made sense. He was way ahead of the game when he switched to MMA, originally. CM Punk had no background in any combat sports. He may have a future, but the only reason the UFC signed him for his first fight was to sell tickets.

203 was such a goofy card all round, loved it though... it was the right kind of crazy. Miocic... i like him, he was really reckless, but like always, there was a plan in mind, he knew Overeem breaks if you pressure him hard, he panics, gasses out. Miocic has fought very different from fight to fight, it's a rare talent to see at HW.

Don't know if you could say Brock was ahead of the curve since he's far from the first athlete to do that transition successfully (Minoru Suzuki anyone?) but he is a savage motherfucker. I can't help but feel there might have been some attempt at an agenda in both cases though. Brock was put in there against Frank f'n Mir who was still in his prime for his first UFC fight. Punk, a white belt BJJ practicioner goes against a young beast like Mickey Gall, who was a brown belt. Thrown straight to the fire. I do wish Punk took it slower in the fight and in the fight game itself. A few tournaments could have helped. With Overeem and Miocic, I've got a new respect for Stipe. He's shown he's got heart and skill and that fight was pretty good. Now, Cain. STAY HEALTHY!!!1

Punk did about as well as anyone that's close to 40, has almost two decades worth of general wear and tear and injuries from pro wrestling, with only two years of training and without any prior background will ever do vs. someone in their early 20's who has been involved with combat sports since they were a kid before they even started training specifically for MMA.
Dude got predictably rekt, and made at LEAST 500k for that, probably a lot more once the final PPV numbers come in and he gets his cut. And any MMA fan who is mad over him being paid so much should realize that anyone's skill or experience level doesn't matter a single bit in that. If they're a PPV draw, they deserve to be paid accordingly, and no disrespect to Gall but nobody bought that show to see him. Obviously, being a skilled fighter is usually a good way for someone to work their way to a position where people start noticing and wanting to pay to see them fight.

He's shown he's got heart and skill and that fight was pretty good. Now, Cain. STAY HEALTHY!!!1 Brock vs. Punk is an asinine comparison and it always has been. You're right about Brock not being a forerunner, but as Jeremiah said, he was certainly ahead of the game when compared to CM Punk and far more equipped to face Mir in his first fight than Punk with Mickey Gall. I'm sure you're already aware of this but I feel the need to write it, anyway: Brock's a two-time NCAA All-American and NCAA D-I heavyweight wrestling champion who went 106-5 in college and is the human embodiment of a weapon of mass destruction. He grew up with a sports background and trained for it. Punk's a guy who always wanted to be a professional wrestler and practiced BJJ in his spare time. It could've been different if Punk had grown up in a time similar to Gall's, but he didn't. Mir took advantage of Brock's MMA inexperience in their first fight and Brock paid for it, but Brock absolutely bludgeoned Mir the next time they met. Mir's face looked like ground beef after that "fight" was over. I guarantee Punk won't bludgeon his next opponent unless he's up against a tomato can, and I'm not sure he'd ever be able to accomplish that since Punk appears to be a tomato can himself. He's just too advanced in age and attrition to compete in MMA, period, much less in a company which is the pinnacle of the sport. This is coming from someone who held CM Punk in high regard before he quit and likes professional wrestling a hell of a lot more than MMA. It's my favorite form of athletics in the world.

Also, I like that Joanna Jedrzejczyk (yes, I had to gügle it to make sure I spelled it right) is starting to get the respect she deserves as one of the best pound for pound fighters out there.
As she said, "I may not have the big boobies, but I can fight."

Well, the bastard did it! I wouldn't say I'm one of his fans, but I have to give him props, this is unprecedented in MMA. By all means, some credit is due but he's fought in two divisions loaded with wrestlers and has only fought one who came in on a weeks notice. There are A LOT of tough match ups for McGregor in both divisions but while Dana White keeps feeding him favourable stylistic match ups, I'll not entertain any talk of him being one of the best.

Wow. I've never heard anyone suggest Jose Aldo, Diaz or Alvarez qualify as easy fights. They all have specific habits that play to Conor's strengths which is why I called them favourable stylistic match ups, which they are albeit less so in Diaz' case, and not easy fights, which they aren't. Also, picture isn't showing up on the last post.

Two of them were their divisions' champions (one of them on an epic winning streak) so I'm not sure who else Dana was supposed to pick to be less favourable matchups.
And again I feel weird, because I don't even like McGregor, but I'm not going to diminish his accomplishments. Aldo is one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters (he's still ranked #5 despite the loss.) I'd like to see a rematch, but since that won't ever happen, I'll recognize McGregor's win was extremely definitive.

To be fair to Aldo, he'd pretty much cleared out the division so McGregor was really the only new challenge. At lightweight though, that doesn't fly since that division has always been a shark tank.
As for less favourable match ups, wrestlers. Wrestling has long been the bane of talented European strikers and in two divisions loaded with them, McGregor has only fought one who came in on short notice. I'm not denying his accomplishments, merely saying I'm skeptical about how good he actually is since his still largely untested grappling chops that have yet to be put under the scrutiny of a good wrestler.

What do yo think of this next fight? She has been out for a while but I do not know if she has been training during her hiatus.
