Can anyone explain the logic behind this? Buy and play a game first before deciding if you should've bought it? That's what reviews are for, folks. It's easy. Does the game interest you after watching trailers and such? Yes. Then buy the game and play it. Letting others dictate what you should or shouldn't do based on their personal views is no way to go thru life. I have never let a single game review determine what I purchase. I am the only one that can determine if I like it or not. That takes buying and playing the game. Demos and Trials are a good way to get a feel of a game that costs nothing but time. A great review does not make a great game. Nor does a bad review make it a bad game. Again that is based on the person reviewing the product own personal views. If you like it, that is all that matters. Buying a bad game happens. I've had my fair share over the years. Played games that had "good/great" reviews and found I disliked them. I will say I have never, ever been disappointed in a single Bioware title over the years. Not saying it won't ever happen but to this day it has not.

I absolutely agree with The Loyal Nub. People with 'audiences' are smelling blood, and I think there's a whole lot of bandwagon-jumping going on right now.

If I listened to the reviews I would have never played Alpha Protocol and would have missed out on a great game.

Leeeet me get this straight
So I am a knives and swords aficionado...so Coldsteel comes out with a new, say, gladius functional replica. I want to buy it but I am not sure how well it is crafted...
What some people here are saying is that I SHOULD NOT research and read the opinions of other people who have bought it and used it at length before purchasing it and just buy it blindly and form my own opinion because, fuck it, even if people are saying it is bad and has flaws of both design and aesthetics I just might like it
Wtf????

Forming my own opinion of things is always the best answer. Oh, if only I have so much money that I can throw to many games that I am interested with so that I can form my own opinion about them without risking them to be something that I don't enjoy.

This video is about movie critics, but I think it still appropriate here.
Short answer don't blindly accept a review's opinions as your own, but don't just write them off either.

Or it could be that you have lots of other Coldsteel sharp pokey things. And when the new sharp pokey thing comes out all the reviews say how horrible the hilt is. The hilts were bad before, but this one is extra bad. And you think to yourself odd, Ive always liked the hilts on my Coldsteel sharp pokey things. So then You say, Oh fuck it. ill blindly follow some review people because they obviously know what I like better then I do!

The way I see it, reviews from critics should be viewed to get a general idea of whether or not you have an interest in buying the game. Personal reviews should be the primary source that one feels about a game. If you do believe the game will be worth your purchase overall after reading through the criticisms of others, then you buy the game and make a final rating for yourself after playing through it. The thing to remember is that reviews are strictly opinionated. Which games some reviewers may find excellent, others may find terrible. Therefore, the best way to determine if a game is worth a purchase is by playing it yourself. This is why I appreciate services such as Redbox, Gamefly, demos, etc. media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m66ibf7uDj1qk12n6.gif

this is the first game in quite a while I have bought at launch. I usually search YouTube and watch a lot of game play before I buy, but ehh, I know I will spend some time on this even if its not the next Diablo or Doom
if you spend more than a week on a game, you got your moneys worth.

Part of me wonders if all the embargo stuff had an impact. People can say reviewers are supposed to be impartial to this stuff all you want, but they are still human. Having to deal with a contract saying you can't talk about it when the public can already play it through EA access, and streamers are already showing parts of it is going to impact a reviewers impressions toward the game and the developers/publishers. Plus, whatever site you work for wants your review to be out sooner than you'd like for a large game will cause you to rush through things and maybe not get the most enjoyable experience possible. I've been wondering if this is various larger media outlets way of protesting the lateish review copies, embargo and non-press early access; many of the smaller sites that seem to 'just be glad to have early access at all' look like they have more positive reviews. Oh I would not be surprised if that had a great deal to do with it. I suspect that some of these reviewers get a little full of themselves and it irked them that they could only report on 10 hrs of the game last week and the same ten hours the gaming plebs had access too. I think that brought them down a notch or two and that might have fueled some of these kicks. One thing I am really getting sick of is this "Well if Zelda golden bollocks... and Horizon hadn't come out..." Yeah you know what? Means nothing to a PC gamer like myself. They may be great games but I wouldn't know. I don't have a console (although that's on the cards at some point in the next year). I can't compare MEA with those two games and it feels unfair to do so. I also don't think comparing it to Witcher 3 really is apt either. lol, yeah I think Horizon is so cool I'll go buy a P4 or P5 or whatever is out now, then go get a WII X or Z or whatever they are and play Zelda too. You play whatever your platform supports. I am a PC gamer. seriously, though, I would love Horizon but I hate how some of these games never cross platforms and they could make gazillions if they would do that with some of these titles.
