During the trial I gained a half a level in bonus to shield. No other stat increased. Anyone know how this works?

Depends on the kit you're using. Each has a specific bonus stat that increases based upon XP earned whilst using it. If you unlock the bonus, it applies to all kits though.

Thanks, I got a soldier to level 15 and that gave me half a level for a shield bonus. I'll try more kits when the game is out and see what other bonuses accumulate.

As River said, just keep grinding. Different kits will give XP towards different stats to encourage you to try them all. But once attained, it applies to all your toons. An idea they took from Borderlands, I bet. But I'm not complaining.

So, here's a potentially dumb question but I didn't have the chance to mess with it much before - do you just start gaining those bonus stats over a long period of time with playing certain kits? Or once you hit Level 20, do you have to promote/reset them to get the stats, like how it was in DAIMP?

I assume you gain them from the get go. I was accumulating points toward level 1 shield bonus all the way through. I never got to level 20 in the trial.
edit: I think I misunderstood the question. You were asking if you continue to gain after level 20. That I don't know whoops.

Sadly, with moderation powers/duties, that comes at a time sacrifice and so I am waaaaay less spoiled/informed about MEA and MEAMP than I'd normally like to be. The struggle is real. |
