Way too much of a stretch. Like... there's a significant difference not between the animations, but with the framing - the face of the guy here is either obscured or far away compared to direct closeup on Sara. This has nothing to do with quality of facial animations. This has everything to do with scene direction. And I'm not saying that MEA facial animations don't have their problems - but the issue with many of scenes in MEA is not animation per se but camera and scene direction. Many games - which includes Witcher 3 and DAI - hide deficiencies in animations by pulling camera away, changing angle or obscuring faces. And in many scenes where camera *could* be pulled away in MEA, it lands squarely on the face or is just way too close to it. A lot of truth in this, ME2 was truly the king of good scene direction. Although I wouldn't say it's "everything" to do with scene direction. I'm 25 hours in and there are some truly horrific Ryder animations that no elegant shadows or smart framing could hide. Would've been nice to see them try though. Even some static poses look daft. It's a mix of problems for sure. Another is that the face textures are hyper realistic and the eye textures are cartoonish. The two just don't work together. Not to mention that a lot of the cinematics are just badly written, with confusing tone and failed comedy. Think of the cringe that was that game of cards with the whole squad from DA:I. It's a truly bizarre result. Great game besides that though. The "everything" comment referred to the clip in question. I did say later that MEA has problem with animations, only that clever scene direction could have pulled camera away when one could expect goofier moments with animation rig. And I actually really liked the game of cards - in fact considering the limited animation resources DAI had (you can easily see that they were way more limited - dunno whether it was due to old gen or tools they've had access to at that time) I can't help but to admire many of their efforts. They worked with what they've had. DA tam simply has more talented/experienced cinematic team. I do agree that textures in MEA could use a bit of work. People wouldn't speak of 'dead' eyes that much if textures for eyes and around them were more refined.

I finally played Drack's mission (beat the game, actually) and when I got to this scene I remembered the leaked gameplay video. The difference is like night and day.

I don't really mind the facial animation as much as... Well everything else really. Why do the armors look like cartoons? Why is the environment so lacking in detail? I hope it's just someone playing on low settings, because that looks awful. What scene is that so I can youtube it myself? Spoiler tags if necessary.

I remember watching a dev talk video on Inquisition. You were walking down the path in full conversation with your team. You then are faced with a dilemma. Do you save the village or close the breach. You decide to close the breach and burn the ships of the invading army on your way. Later, after closing the breach you return to the village and wander through the dead while dramatic music plays though scenes of your sadness at the sight of the slaughter. Anyone else remember this video? I think they must have pulled it because I can't find it anymore.
And WHAT did we end up with? Yep, collect 100 mushrooms for Frodo Baggins wife.
Sometimes when I have my tin hat on, I start to think EA/Bioware are deceiving us.

I can understand if something went wrong with DAI's development, but I expected better from MEA after they explicitly said that it wouldn't be DAI in space.

I think the main difference between DAI and MEA is that they have found a way to sneak in the fetch quests, in the hope you will mistakenly take it as part of a main quest. This might have worked but they dragged the fetch quest on a little to long.
