Surprised that Inquisition had anywhere near the votes of Origins... but then not surprised since I have met so many that put it in the greatesr all time discussion. Yep. Inquisition was not one of Bioware's best.... only according to a small hive on the internet.

Same. Goes to show the niche corners of the internet don't teally know what people think about games.
This reminds me of how badly I want to see "overplay" flirts. Nothing too sneaky, but maybe have some heavily signposted clingy/obsessed/creepy heart options that tank the romance instead of advancing it.
I've always felt the heart represents "the PC thinks this will come across as flirty" rather than "the LI will interpret this as flirty". While flirts sometimes don't land, to my knowledge they never hurt the PC's chances.
I have no issue with this. The icon is important to me; I want to know my PC's intention because I hate ninjamancing. Is there an example of flirts not landing? I've only completed a small percentage of the romances. Isn't that subjective? What you think is lame, the NPC might think is adorkable.
For example, one of my favorite Inquisitor/Dorian flirts is the one where Dorian calls the Inquisitor strapping. The exchange from both parties is awkward and cheesy all around, and they both know it, which is why I like it.
Mountains. Cold. "Let's bring Dorian!" It's good to be Champion!

DA4 is like the worst kept secret ever...
Eh, if they really wanted to keep it a secret, they likely would. Just look how long they kept details of Anthem under wraps, to a point that the codename for it leaked only some weeks before reveal.
I think they're in that weird space where they have to dance between secrecy and wanting to let everyone know that Bioware ain't exactly sitting on its hands. They do have Anthem to work on, of course, but with it being a co-op game and a new IP they probably don't want anyone to think that they've stopped working on franchises people know and care about.

Well, didn't (ironically) a freelance writer confirm basically it's existence?

I'm sure though that he would have had NDA's out the wazoo that he needed to sign. You can't talk about X,Y and Z and hell even its existence. Though even before this article-it was like a 99.9% probability that DA4 was in the works even before this article.

Considering that the gang at BW had been posting teasing tweets for the last year & a half, the Eurogamer article really didn't say anything we hadn't known for a long time already. It's just that it managed to grab more widespread attention. Like Alexis points out in the article, Mark had tweeted "Welcome to the Dragon Age franchise." when he came onboard.
As midnight tea said, if they really wanted to keep it a secret, they could have. I'm still impressed with how they'd been able to keep Anthem's details under wraps for so long.
Is there an example of flirts not landing? I've only completed a small percentage of the romances. Isn't that subjective?
I was thinking of "landing" in the numeric sense, i.e. flirts that don't set any romance flags. Basically if saying the flirt leaves you in the same position as skipping it. Aveline might be the clearest example, but most LI's also have optional flirts that have 0 effect one way or the other. You can say the flirt or skip the flirt, and it won't set any flags. Choosing to say them (or not) is purely a roleplaying decision.
What I'd be interested in seeing is flirts that leave you in a significantly worse position if they aren't skipped. The Vivienne flirts are something like that, but she's not an LI so the PC would have no chance with her anyway. That way, if the LI is the kind of person who wants to go slow, but the PC is being waaaaay overeager, there's some kind of acknowledgement of that.

There is a flirt with Cassandra early on which gives you a "Cassandra slightly disapproves"
It's really early on, at Haven, and it's only a tiny ding in the approval system though.
I'm willing to say it's intentional. BUT I don't understand why the lyrium idol specifically would be carved to look like that. It would make more sense for me if it were some other object.

I think the first question is probably whether the symbolism has significance within universe or just on meta level for the audience.
But as for why red idol specifically... I'd have to ask why not? We still don't know the origins of red lyrium - heck, we barely know origins of either Blight or regular lyrium, though I'd say that it's not a long shot to assume that both are deeply connected in one way or another with Elvenhan and its rulers, Mythal especially. Even when Inky meets Flemythal and asks whether she knows what they're up against, she says that she knows better than they could ever imagine.

Do you mean why an object made specifically of red lyrium? Or something else? If you're on board with the theories on the Evanuris and the Forgotten Ones having a part to play in the creation of the taint/red lyrium, then it makes sense. And even if not, she did fight a titan. Her having a connection to lyrium and/or the blight is plausible. I'm more interested in who created the damned thing. A pissed off Forgotten One? Someone with a connection to the Titans or blight? And who is the second body clinging to her corpse? One being Solas, but the other...? Presuming it was intentional, there could be a whole number of reasons, reasons that we will likely have to wait a long time to be answered. Damn it, Gaider haha.

Yes, I did mean that specific object made out of red lyrium.
I don't really follow the elven lore parts of the game other than what is presented in the game itself -- I don't do further deep dives into codices and such, like some players -- as I just can't muster up the interest in it.

Amen, Amen, AMEN! It will have to be a non-critical branch with an option to recover, or else there will be torches and pitchforks, but I think the DA team has earned enough trust to mess with romances a little. Just a little. Just to keep things from getting too serious.
Inquisitor: Is that innuendo? Sera: No, it's at the front!
