Heh... Yep, we're in a wee bit of a lull right now. Gonna need to come up with something - like a gameplay topic of the week. Hmm... Not sure if it is enough for a topic of the week, but I would like healing spells back as well as a lot of spells in general (not only 3 at a time as in MEA). I don't mind small amount of spells, but I think would be cool if there were a lot of additional mechanics that would increase variety of stuff we can do aside from spamming default attacks and abilities/ultimates. Kinda what Dragon' Dogma (and MEA in some cases) did - the ability's strength or some effects could depend on how long you charge it. Also, combos - in a sense of clicking a button or two more and ability changes somehow. Oh, and a dodge. I also wouldn't mind if we had more variety to ability upgrades and quick way to change them, like in Trespasser. Plz.

- For those interested in diving a little into the technical side of Frostbite... Sébastien @sebhillaire My SIGGRAPH 2016 PBS presentation "PB Sky,Atmosphere&Cloud Rendering in Frostbite" extended course notes are online! www.ea.com/frostbite/news/physically-based-sky-atmosphere-and-cloud-renderingTalk by Sebastien Hillaire at SIGGRAPH 2016 in the Physically Based Shading in Theory and Practice course.
Video games are becoming more and more demanding in terms of visual quality and dynamism. Open world games may require lots of visually dynamic elements, such as time of day lighting and real-time evolving weather. The dynamic and often global nature of these elements make them difficult to simulate and render in real time. Sky, atmosphere and clouds are the three main components we need to simulate in order to achieve dynamic time of day and weather conditions.
In this document, we present the practical physically-based solutions we have researched and developed for Frostbite to simulate, combine and render these complex and dynamic participating media elements. We present background on volumetric rendering, and then dive into the choices and improvements we have made to render each of these elements, as well as the complex interactions between them. We will also describe how this fits into Frostbite's physically based shading framework as well as how artists visually author each component to achieve their vision. Dynamic time of day and weather conditions?!? * squeee* Maybe there's a chance...for some hypothetical project..to include these elements. I would love this. Biovar, pls. edit: I would also love to see a Nug Anatomy Chart hanging on the wall of some Healer/Mage/Hunter's abode. Because I, too, think that's so cool. For so many different reasons. As well as a Tavern that has weekly Interpretive Dance Routines to showcase Mike Laidlaw's growing repertoire and interpretive dance prowess.

I don't talk alot about gameplay/mechanics because I don't know that much about it all. And, well, I love Story. Although, fun gameplay is what can keep me coming back well after I know the story inside out. Sometimes it's just fun to play, and setting up a variety of potential squad banter combinations. I love all the banters. FWIW, I do know that when I'm playing Stabby Rogue and get my enemy on the ground, I can't finish them off because my daggers won't connect. And I have to wait until the enemy gets back on their feet before I can finish them off. That makes me sad. I also know that, at least for me, the combat attack....sounds? and the "feel" of it could use some more..umph. The basic attacks make me feel more like I'm shooting a watergun just waiting for my special powers to kick in. Soo, maybe more umph and less cool downs? Hmm, I'll have to check out the gameplay/mechanics thread. I may have some things about that on my mind afterall.

Disagree regarding its seeming stance on open world. An emptier open world isn't a plus to my eyes. Just make tighter zones reducing the grind. Equally i liked the deep roads in origins

I thought that picture was alluding to the fact that the DAI we got was not the DAI promised in the first ever trailer back in 2013. You know, the one narrated by Morrigan. In that we didn't just get an explosion and a hole in the sky; the sky split open across the horizon and I assumed the dragon was one of the things that dropped out of it, so not just any old dragon but possibly an old god of some sort not afflicted with the Blight. It was also suggested that we could either stand against the encroaching darkness or "lead this world to its bitter end". Ominous stuff and to my mind far more in keeping with Solas' expectation of "fiery chaos" when he removes the Veil, seeing as fire balls do actually seem to be raining down from the sky on to that fortress. Considering DG admits we only got half the story in DAI and we know who the main enemy is now, I really want to see the final vision as promised in this trailer.
They tried to create a sense of impending doom in DAI, particularly at the end with Morrigan emoting in a deep voice about how if we didn't stop Corypheus the second time the breach would engulf the world but it really didn't strike me that way. He and the consequences of his action weren't nearly scary or threatening enough and there seemed no possibility that we could possibly lead the world to its demise (except in the rather lame cut scenes that followed failure at one or another of the main plot quests). That was confined to the vision of the dark future that we only get if you took the mage path. So I'm hoping that at some point in the next game we are going to see and experience what we did in the trailer.

ᴍ ᴏ ʟ ʟ ʏ @hibirdsI hope we get a dlc one day called Rise of the Fennec and its all about fennecs avenging their brethren who have died in the line of fire. Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah They have a lot of grievances Hey, not everyone catches fennecs in the line of fire. Some of us are aiming straight at them. Don't be fooled by their cuteness. It's all a trick! Fennecs are the deadliest monsters in all of Thedas. How many other creatures can silently creep up on the party rogue and blow up their stealth in the middle of enemy lines? Stay in stealth for a while, and you'll see. Far from capering around aimlessly, fennecs have a singular goal. Go in stealth, and all pretense of frolicking in the grass suddenly drops away. These fiends will beeline straight for you, piercing you with their cursed Perception. These devious, conniving little bastards are in league with bears, with demons, with red templars, and they have seduced far too many players with their weapons-grade flooffiness. I for one would relish the chance to fight them face to face!

I took Solas with me and started to kill hallas thinking that he would say something. Nada. Nix. I also thought that doing Spoils of desecration before going to the dalish clan will get me out of the hook with them. I never felt so ashamed like how i felt when the keeper still told me that he knows about desecration. Buggers.

Plz. I share similar feelings on ability design/usage and I might be a person who happens to make them...

Also, combos - in a sense of clicking a button or two more and ability changes somehow. +1 for those kinds of combos. I've always been fascinated with Magicka's system, but every time I see LPs it looks far too fast-paced for my reflexes. I'd love to see those kinds of "modifier" combos ported to a game that explicitly supports pausing and tac cam. Custom ability chains seem like a natural fit for a slower, more thoughtful combat style. And I imagine it would be fun and hectic for people who play realtime too. Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if Tevinter mages have ways of making custom glyphs on the fly.

It's frustrating that the only way to get a mosaic piece is by doing that. I cheesed it and used a mount trick to get behind the door; I don't take anything else in the tomb. If you complete the Dalish tasks first, you can then go to the tomb and loot away and it won't affect your standing with them (or even be mentioned). That's how I always do it...my paragon PC doesn't like folks being mad at him.

I still kinda like sneaking in via the mount trick because no enemies spawn that way. Unless you are farming Arcane Horror and Revenant parts. Then it might not be so good.

Billy Buskell @ehlienThanks, Mike! Gonna miss working with you and the awesome teams here, but excited to play some BioWare stories without spoilers I've wondered about that before. by the time the game is released they've sort of played it already several times over. Depending on who it is, they may have played some small part of it over and over, but may not have seen the whole game.
