Sometimes I think I'm the only one who likes Hissing Wastes. What I don't like is enemies popping up out of nowhere in front of me. Camps that weren't there a second ago suddenly appearing, that sort of thing. I think it's a graphics issue on my end, perhaps, but it's still annoying. Nah, I liked it as well. Me too. Great place for midnight photoshots on horseback

I liked Hissing Wastes as well. The atmosphere was great, and I liked looking at the sky. However I think it was a missed opportunity to further differentiate the mage and templar paths. If you side with the mages, you get the content relating to the red templars in Emprise du Lion. The Hissing Wastes is supposedly the last remnant of the Venatori, so deeper content there for those that sided with the templars (thus getting more Calpernia content) would have been nice.

I loved the Hissing Wastes, they did a good job there with the environment design.

Lo ga n @logan1896 @mike_Laidlaw Are there any plans to update the Keep with choices like removing Vallaslin with Solas? I'm obsessing about my Keep 😂
Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw No announced plans. Doesn't mean it won't happen, but nothing talked about right now.

If they'd ever update the Keep records, it'll send the part of fandom that enjoys speculating into frenzy, lol. My guess is that the update like this would probably happen very shortly before or at time of release.

The Leading Dan daniel_Kading Testing something: The word "TAINT". Take the FIRST definition that springs to your mind. Is it the one you can repeat in polite company? Yes No seb hanlon 🔵🗣 @hanlsp 30 seconds of googling does not find me a supercut of “every time someone says ‘taint’ in DAO”, and I am disappoint 🙍♂️ Cori Nicole @genevraelThe only reason I even found out 'taint' had an impolite meaning was that it made @davidgaider snicker on DAO. David Gaider @davidgaider That was AFTER I found out, well into development. I had no idea. Waste of a perfectly good word, if you ask me.

The hissing Wastes? Nice place to visit. It also has one of the best quests, Tomb of Fairel, with a lot of goodies.

Also, from back reading and finally catching up. I think that the hissing wastes was beautiful. One of my favorite maps just out of sheer beauty, but I got very annoyed when I couldn't find the last of the notes on something, I forget now what it was.
I think Darrah is right on. He isn't saying they are going to scale back because I don't think they want to. I think they would rather keep all of the beautiful, interesting landscapes and just fill it with more stuff. I don't think people complained "oh man there are too many environments to explore I hate having so many options!" I think they complained more that there wasn't always reason enough to be there to begin with, or a lack of tie in to the main plots. Especially in a game where you're kind of on a clock, like you're supposed to be in inquisition.
My biggest disappointment, environment wise in DAI, was Val Royeaux. I imagined it to be this sprawling, ornate and beautiful city and that isn't what I got. I even can understand that maybe it was only supposed to be "part" of the city but if you went up top and looked out, I expected a vast city that was there, just unexplorable. Instead, I got nothing. It just seemed so small compared to how it'd always been talked about.
I hope they do Tevinter justice.

And more populated too, because they won't have the pesky 360 slowing everyone down.

While Minrathous would be too large to put in the game in its entirety (it has a population of 1,000,000), it'd be great to see 3 or 4 choice districts. It'd also be nice to see a smaller town as well to contrast urban & rural Tevinter...

While wandering around Novigrad part of me was wondering "Hmmmm, make this city a little bit bigger, keep some of the outskirts or maybe individual maps for stuff away from Kirkwall, and I wonder what it'd be like to play a DA2 along these lines with some more up to date tech to facilitate it a bit better." Just my random musing for the day have fun dissecting!

I wish DA2 could get a remake and do exactly what Alan said with Kirkwall. Or a revisit to Kirkwall. It may have been kind of a s*hole(Thanks, Dorian. ), but I liked it anyway.

I didn't think Kirkwall was bad at all compared to the little we saw of, say, Denerim or even Amaranthine. I love Dorian to bits, but that is definitely his Tevinter snobbishness coming through there -- he'd admit it, too. The whole of Tevinter, and Minrathous, is full of crumbling ruins and faded buildings that are falling apart. There are also refugees from the qunari conflicts taking up the limited (island) space. Heck, Alexius has to BEG the Magisterium for funding for the Minrathous Circle (and all the circles), because it's a few millennia old and is falling apart. Dorian sees it with a certain romanticism borne of patriotism, so everything else will be a shit hole in comparison. (Yes, I realize Varric agrees with him in the banter.) It's a shame banter wasn't activated in Val Royeaux, so we never got to hear his views of that city. If the devs can give us even some, a decent-sized chunk, of what Minrathous is supposed to be, I'll be pretty happy. After Leliana talked up VR in DAO, and with the way it was described in Asunder, it was truly unfortunate that all we got to see was one marketplace.

Shit hole or not, his lover has a title and holdings there, which for my Lavellan was a pretty big deal. If Dorian is not on good terms with the Inquisitor he calls the south "a freezing shit hole" when sitting in the Winter Palace. I dare say, if Dorian actually passed through Kirkwall, he picked up on the negative vibes in that city that I believe all mages would experience, so he'd likely disparage it based on that alone.
I agree that it is probably just Altus snobbery when comparing the rest of Thedas to Minrathous but I would have thought Kirkwall would have a lot of Tevinter architecture bearing in mind their long connection with the city.
Agree absolutely. I would happily settle for all the action to be in or around Minrathous if they just do it justice. However, if you compare the depiction of Starkhaven in the comic with how it is described in World of Thedas, I'm not holding my breath on it.

I'm OK with both open world and linear as long as they're done right. Linear areas can be bad like it was in DA2 or magnificently beautiful like it was in DAO and Trespasser. Same goes for open worlds, they can be bad like Hissing Wastes or Storm Coast or they can be really good like Exalted Plains and can even be a fucking masterpiece like Frostback Basin. So yes as long as they're good I'm fine with both I think what a lot of people miss is that it's not either/or. The best open world games have linear segments, when the plot or pace of challenges requires it. I love open world exploration, but you're not going to hear me complain about the Temple of Mythal being linear.
