Not sure this was linked. www.pcgamesn.com/dragon-age-4/dragon-age-4-story-alexis-kennedyRelevant pieces: "The writer recently did a freelance writing stint at BioWare, working on a specific section for a game in the Dragon Age series. If you were a betting person, your money would be safe if you put it on Kennedy’s involvement being something to do with death, containing dark humour, and possibly passing through a metaphorical mirror.
“Dragon Age 4 - we can neither confirm or deny,” Kennedy laughs. “This is what people assume I was working on and nobody at BioWare has said ‘that is a crazy assumption’, but, equally, neither have they said, and neither have I said, that’s what I’m working on. It is confirmed to be a project in the Dragon Age franchise and I did work with Dragon Age writers...
“They hived off a bit of the lore for me to go and do a deep dive on, and develop a bunch of typically gothic, miserablist, surreal, Kennedy stuff. I think it would not be surprising if it were about death, and I think that element will survive if nothing else does - it will be related to the body of my work.” The section Kennedy is developing will be a playable part of the story, not just background lore, which means he’s fleshed out characters, written dialogue, and worked on the backstory. "... Nevarra? O.o Or perhaps something to do with Falon Din. I'm increasingly thinking that it may be Kal-Sharok - the lost dwarven city besieged by darkspawn and probably having to do a lot of dark stuff in order to survive.

Dumped Drunk Dalish @drunkdalish @patrickweekes, in Trespasser, Cole has new insights into Solas. Did his memory return, or is he more a conduit at that point? #fadetweet
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes More conduit. Cole doesn't always know what he knows.

I thought the scene when you talk to him the first time in post-game where he says the bit about Solas and then comes back to himself, saying, "I'm ready to help!" was pretty disturbing. Solas goes on about spirits as if they're people, but I guess he felt fine with using Cole for that.

This wasn't really a 'message to Inquisitor' (as I saw some portray it), because it was spoken directly to Cole and not anyone else. I think Solas was so distressed that it brought Cole to him, so he made him forget whatever he wanted to make him forget in a huff, and that probably had a short-term effect which made Cole repeat the last words he heard before the spell fired.

Either interpretation fits, given that Solas is the Trickster, with many layered meanings. That said, I lean more towards the burping up a memory randomly than a purposeful message interpretation, after reviewing the dialogue:

I still think Solas making Cole forget is a shitty thing to do. Makes me not feel bad about wanting to kill him in whatever sequel we end up getting. If we get one.

Cole - the Walking Spoiler Warning I can already see how DA4 would be like if Solas didn't make Cole forget some essential details. Inquisitor: "Cole, please tell us everything Solas is planning to do!" Cole: "Oh, alright!" (spills out everything) Inquisitor: "Well that was easy..." Yeah... I don't think it'd work that well. In-story or on meta level. Solas already went out of his way to save Inquisition and the South, even if it would be in his interest for them to be in disarray or even destroyed after Trespasser. But leaving anyone who knows the details of his plans or whatever knowledge he (and perhaps Flemeth, who refuses to answer some questions as well) wants to keep a secret would just be plain stupid. Besides, it's not like he's hurt Cole. He literally made him forget things Cole had to invade his head to extract, not any sort of essential memories to Cole's character.

I suppose this is where it's a little game-breaking depending on the path you choose for Cole. This incident happens regardless. However, if you choose to make Cole more human, he's able to block people out and focus more on his own self. This is stated in the base game as well, not just two years later in Trespasser. I suppose this can be applied to some of the banter as well. So Cole "invading" Solas's mind doesn't seem likely for a Cole that has been made more human.

Inquisition is so damn intricate I expect to find new things for years.

Focus more on himself - more doesn't mean entirely. Even two years later he hasn't yet become fully human (and even if he does, I don't think he's going to lose most of his talents. Even epilogue for human!Cole mentions that he ventures to find a 'new way to be human') and shares cryptic messages with us. Plus, Cole likely wanted to help a deeply upset friend.

I agree with it being a reprehensible thing to do, though not so much with the other part But seriously, stealing the memories of one of your friends? Cole taking his own memories made me uncomfortable, Solas doing it is just... no.

Some would still whine about the 'weakest year', but I say 89/100 on Metacritic would be strong in any other year, whether GOTY or not.

Didn't the developers themselves state that Frostbite was a tricky engine to make RPGs on? I think they've said DAI was the first RPG on the engine so they had to implement all the traditional RPG features. I'm not sure that means it was tricky, just that it was a lot of work upfront. In theory DA4 should be much smoother, though of course there will be new features with every game.

Witcher 2 was the first on CDPRed engine and then you see that quantum leap and they got comfortable with it and they had the baseline already in place for Witcher 3, and just what they were able to do once they had that steadiness and workflow."They only say "weak year" because it is a cheap way to discreeit Inquisition without actually having to discuss it on any meaningful level. To be fair, I wonder what would have happened if The Witcher 3 did end being released that year. I think it was supposed to come out in whatever year DAI won GOTY and then it got delayed. ... Coincidentally it got delayed right to a time period where not many major titles or any other major RPGs were being released
