No serious way, really. I'm being facetious by drawing the most tenuous of connections between stuff that happens in a fictitious entertainment with things in the real world. As you know, there is a tradition in western culture of using the colour white to symbolize day/light and goodness, and the colour black for night/darkness and the dark side. Solas values freedom of thought while the Qun values rigid structure and order. Solas beats Iron Bull in their chess game, which was based on an historical chess game in which the person who played the white side won.

It amused me for some reason.

Ah, gotcha.

Though in this case the Black vs White is somewhat incidental. The game itself was there to show you what kind of people they were. We know Bull is very protective of the Chargers and that attitude is reflected in the style of game he plays (he loses only 3 pawns). Solas on the hand is prepared to sacrifice anything in order to achieve his goals, and that is reflected in his game. And it's worth remembering that he wins with a pawn.

And for the Solasmancers, it might be worth noting that in the end... he sacrifices his Queen to win.

It's really more a point to illustrate that no piece is too important to sacrifice in order to win. But that he wins through sacrificing his Queen, I thought the Solasmancers might find... potentially enlightening.

I've played DAI a dozen times and I still see it as ambivalent whether Solas kills Flemeth for her power or Flemeth gives him her power. In fact, based on her response of, "I'm sorry too," the latter even seems a tad more likely to me. He may be willing, but he doesn't really know what he's in for.

Or he does, but goes with it anyhow. He does seem resigned to his fate. Either way, I don't think it's the last we heard of Flemeth.

I think you may be taking the chess metaphor a bit too literally.

Has it just begun, though? We know he has probably been active through the millennia even while he was in uthenera, by using pawns such as Felassan.
