Mike Laidlaw mentioned in his stream that shortly he'll be off to Bucharest for work. Apparently there's a great opportunity for... something there. I had to google it, but sure enough, EA does have a studio there. Curious to see what will come of that. Their studio is one of the teams that works on FIFA, but maybe they're expanding? I imagine with the bulk of the DA team on Anthem, they might be looking at other studios to help out with DA...

After all, didn't the team behind Need For Speed games helped with developing Nomad and how it drives for MEA?

My two cents: follower AI. Non controlled team mates in sports games (that I've played, anyway) are almost always in the right place at the right time. If DA is moving away from player control of the whole team, improved companion AI is a must.

We don't know whether or how much they're moving away from player control, but improved AI would be beneficial no matter what they decide to do with party control.

I'm a simple Romanian, I see Mike will visit us, I get a teensy bit excited. Then I remember I don't work at the EA offices and my workplace is nowhere near their building, either. The EA offices in Bucharest deal with FIFA but they also do a lot of game testing. Like, really a lot. Maybe they're expanding their QA? As far as I know, the people working at EA here test games made strictly by EA Studios, not other studios under EA's umbrella. Also, maybe he's doing some location scouting? I kind of remember them doing something like that in France and (I think) Germany for DAI. Romania has really beautiful landscapes, pretty castles and a lot of old timey, medieval towns. The flight from Canada all the way here is super long, it would be a shame if he didn't get to see some of the sights (even if no location scouting is happening).

Still, Thedas is lacking sports. The closest is a Tourney but I think it suffers from the involvement of Orlesians. I say with a sneer, for I will always be Ferelden at heart.

I have no interest in MMO anything, but if Bioware managed to put an actual story and romances into it, I'd probably play it. They've pretty much told us zilch about it, other than a heavily edited trailer and some buzz words.

However, as a long-time WoW player, I can say that the MMO environment kills story and roleplay immersion for me. Being surrounded by thousands of other players that have all been told they're The One by whatever NPC takes something out of the experience. With SP games, I know that other people are playing the same game in some other location, but I can ignore their existence in a way that I can't in the MMO environment. I might check out a DA MMO if they made one, but I can't see myself getting really into it as I have with the SP DA games.

I'm late to being a gamer and I can't play games more than 10 minutes without a controller/game pad. Unless I want to sign up for pain. So SWTOR is off my gaming list. Haha, I'd forgotten about that. Everyone was "the One." Anthem has avoided that (I think?) by making you a Contractor (or whatever they'd calling it). Kinda like a Witcher could just do witcher jobs without them being "the one." So maybe they've narratively avoided that problem.

As far as I know, the people working at EA here test games made strictly by EA Studios, not other studios under EA's umbrella. Seems like as good a guess as any. The mocap idea is possible too, though we've seen twitter evidence that there's a mocap studio in Vancouver that Bioware uses. FIFA is also well known for real-life face textures for players. Would you like to put your own face on your DA4 PC? Could also be realistic face textures for NPCs.

Sorry if you were kidding about not knowing about the office, kinda hard to pick up on that sort of thing in writing. The EA offices in Bucharest deal with FIFA but they also do a lot of game testing. Like, really a lot. Maybe they're expanding their QA? Or at least considerably closer to Bioware Edmonton? Anyway, the guess about follower AI I think is pretty spot on. But, also, now that you mention it, FIFA does have some great face making technology, it would be great to have that level of complexions in the CC. I love love love L.O.V.E. DAI's CC but I see where they can improve on it.

Yeah, the mocap studio in Vancouver is the Capture Lab, and it's one of the best mocap studios in the world. And IIRC, they're also the mocap studio primarily responsible for the work on FIFA. BioWare definitely uses them, and obviously being just a short flight away makes them the most convenient. I think they've also used a studio down in California somewhere. So for mocap work, I think they're covered in NA. I assume if Mike's going there, it's going to be something relatively important, which is why I thought maybe they're pulling some of that team onto DA. Location scouting was mentioned, and while I wonder if Mike would go there himself for just that, Romania would obviously be a great location to draw inspiration/photogrammetry references from.

Could have easily been a side quest. I'm still disappointed that there wasn't an option about the tourney when talking to Blackwall as a non-mage Trevelyan. Instead, I had to ask about it like a boob. I headcanon that my guy has actually been in one.
