*peeks in and sees the quiet twitter thread*
So, Star Citizen had an elaborate hoax, too? Wtf is going on? It's always been a rough ride, but nothing like this....there is a conspiracy to destroy gaming. Outside agitators are agitating the inside agitators and community at large and looking to get us to cannibalize ourselves. "there is a war on for your minds".

The official response from BSN BiowareForums on Twitter to the issue of toxicity and game dev interaction is fantastic. Too long for me to cut paste, but if you can, check it out.

Classy.
I may try and pick away at that excellent (but massive) thread a little later, but for those interested, you can start here.
A number of Devs have chimed in with their thoughts already.

Good luck with that war. I misplaced my mind sometime ago and its still missing. The weird thing is I keep looking for it in the refrigerator. Maybe I should look between the couch cushions instead.

(For the completely selfish reason that I was concerned DA4 would be affected >.>.)
Would it really? Isn't VO for DA done mostly in Great Britain?
I'm not sure... I feel like I saw tweets from British VAs (such as Stephen Valentine) working on DAI that suggested the VAs were recording in North America. But that is years ago now... I could very easily be misremembering.

I'm not sure about recording and I might be wrong, but I could swear that I heard Mike Laidlaw mentioning somewhere that all/most of their VO is done through GB, at least when it comes to hiring actors and so on.
“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
BUT, that was in the middle of a paragraph that I mostly disagreed with.
Next time you don't like a game, maybe consider just... moving on? What is the value of helping spread hate and toxicity? If more people accepted that it's okay to dislike a game and move on, rather than doubling down on harassment, things would be more open. If you are posting extremely negative things about a game you don't like, even with good intentions, you are contributing to this ethos. Being critical and explaining why you don't like something is fine. Dwelling on it, calling out the dev, or just talking shit is not. Let's be honest: dwelling on something you don't like also isn't healthy. Spend your time on what matters instead.
To me, it fails to understand why some players "dwell" on things and have this great upset when a game of a franchise they love turns out to be "bad." Yes, I will use the word "love." I love the Dragon Age franchise. It is incredibly important to me. I've Invested thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars into it, from pre-order games at full price, to DLC, to all of the ancillary materials, and some fun extras like plushies and other merch. (Yes, I know the developers invest their literal blood, sweat, and tears into it; I don't compare myself to them.)
These words fail to understand just how important these games are to people, how they reach them on an emotional and personal level. That is the reason many players have such strong reactions when a game in a series they love does poorly. He wants them to just "move on"? When Dragon Age is finally ended, I will feel like a friend has died. If DAI had been the last game, I would have been devastated.
It's not about how deeply you feel about a game -- totally your prerogative. It's about what you do when you're disappointed by something a dev does to a game or it's follow-up. And to be clear, I'm using "you" in the "us all" sense, not you specifically, nightscrawl.
As they said, being critical and explaining why you are disappointed is fine, maybe even helpful in the right forum. I'd even go so far as to say that dwelling on it is your prerogative, even if I agree that it might not be healthy in the long run. Just do so privately, or amongst those friends and family who will tolerate it because they know you.
It's the out-of-control shit giving, in public, to total strangers (devs), that's without merit and that we could use a whole lot less of. And when the shit-giving deprives more-or-less innocent bystanders (fans) the opportunity to talk constructively with devs, it's not just a problem for devs. Not to mention when fans want to talk to other fans about their shared interest, it has to come with a surcharge of mandatory dunking in saltiness about some game that was a disappointment to some number of people. I don't even care if it was a majority of people that were disappointed, what place does repetitive shit-giving have in the virtual town square?

Inquisitor: Is that innuendo? Sera: No, it's at the front!
I'm propably going to get crucified for this but I've noticed a large amount of vile toxicity is coming from the people often referred as "SJW"s.
There's plenty of blame to go around, regardless of someone's political leanings or passions. I've seen plenty of out-of-control shit-giving from those on the other side of the fence, who's every third swear word is "SJW".

Not DA related..really, but is Story related. Elon Musk tweeted out an article from NYT (from a couple years back) about "Your Brain on fiction". Very cool article:
"The brain, it seems, does not make much of a distinction between reading about an experience and encountering it in real life; in each case, the same neurological regions are stimulated."
"..there is evidence that just as the brain responds to depictions of smells and textures and movements as if they were the real thing, so it treats the interactions among fictional characters as something like real-life social encounters."
"..there was substantial overlap in the brain networks used to understand stories and the networks used to navigate interactions with other individuals — in particular, interactions in which we’re trying to figure out the thoughts and feelings of others."
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Also I would have a soft spot for Highlander 2: The Quickening if such a movie existed.
Cori Nicole @genevrael BUT IT DOES NOT
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Well yes I believe I made that clear.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Cori cori cori hey okay so: Prologue: Having claimed THE PRIZE, Solas, now growing old as a mortal, watches an opera and remembers... ZEIST!
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes See I mean you're grumpy at me but you're also using Mean Girls gifs, which you know I interpret as praise regardless of intention...
Cori Nicole @genevrael I just don't know how to communicate with you except through the words of our lord and Saviour, Regina George.
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes Good news, General Katana was played by Michael Ironside, AND HE DOES VOICE WORK! Maybe we can get him for, I dunno, Falon'din?
Some call me T @imasithduh EVANURIS APPEARANCE CONFIRMED!
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes I want to see a major gaming news outlet run with Zeist.
Some call me T @imasithduh @mike_Laidlaw would be like "Really Patrick? Really? This is what they run with?"
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes "According to reputable gaming sites, the next Dragon Age project is confirmed to be, and I quote, 'Mean Girls meets Highlander 2'."

I find it amusing he jumps that bandwagon so quickly. I've remarked on a previous occasion that it's now gone a completely different extreme and now everything is so uncertain, you can't be sure of anything. Making the entire history of Thedas just murky and frustrating.

I'm fairly sure he didn't "jump that bandwagon" - he just said that they're doing so deliberately. From the start.
And I don't really think that the claim that 'they've gone a completely different extreme' can be substantiated. They've made it a lot like real history. And while not everything in our history can be confirmed with 100% certainty, there are a lot of things that are fairly certain, just based on scholarly analysis and available evidence across different disciplines (archaeology, anthropology, social studies, ethnography, text study and so on). Obviously we can't apply all of those to fake history and non-linear story, but the basics still work. For people who are history or myth geeks who like to investigate and connect the dots like me, this is a very appealing way to tell the story.
