Remember how Grey Wardens used to be like? Absolutely worthless and wiped out by a single enemy that eventually kills itself in an act of honorable suicide? True alpha team, Shepard would fit right in, amirite? We want BW back on board, we better kick off any BBM's off the team.

user What are people's favorite: "Wow, I didn't know I could do that!" moments in a game?
seb hanlon @hanlsp I love showing people that you can parry dragon fireballs with the Knight-Enchanter magic sword ability in DAI
user Why was I not told this.
seb hanlon @hanlsp Because it was very late when we implemented it and we were all very tired

Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Creative works create an artificial sense of intimacy between creator and consumer. You may feel like you have a close relationship. ... You don't. If you criticize them "as a joke" they can't tell the difference. Therefore, if isn't funny. The end. DJ Shepherd djshepherdMate it's not between the creator and consumer. It is between the creative work and the consumer. Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrahIt should be but sometimes a line gets crossed I know people tend to dog pile on Bioware, but they honestly do need to take criticism a bit better. For any creator, I try to remember that I'm seeing only a tiny sliver of the shit being lobbed at them. It's not being lobbed at me, so I just notice the stuff that whizzes by close enough for me to see. They're the target. They get to see all of it. What would be a reasonable amount of criticism if there was one fan per creator becomes unbearable when there are so many. Humans can handle some constructive criticism, but we didn't evolve to deal with such large amounts of it. If some caveman suddenly faced hundreds and thousands of her people shaming her, she'd rightly assume she'd done something unspeakably, irredeemably awful. How could it be a minor mistake, if dozens of tribes worth of people are yelling at her? So even relatively mild criticism becomes mindbreaking when it's spread over the internet's scale. Our brains immediately interpret mass complaints as extremely severe, even when they aren't - even if percentage-wise, there are many more happy customers than upset ones.

That just seems like a case of tone being harder to convey over the internet but yeah sure okay, definitely more reasonable to take the opportunity to make a comment on a fan's place in the creative process.

I find it a little odd that BioWare would claim there is no intimacy between them and their fans. Consider their ME3 EC dedication to the fans, talking about BW and Shepard's journey coming to an end and thanking the fans for being a part of that. Or their numerous interactions with fan-works such as fanart and cosplay. In my opinion that goes a little further than a simple creator-consumer relationship. I mean, I don't get messages from McDonald's congratulating me on finishing my fries and praising my Ronald McDonald cosplay.
That's not to say that Bioware and the fans are best buddies or anything, but there's clearly some sort of bond there. It's just important that people remember to keep it a healthy one.

I don't think they claim there's no intimacy - just that there are some lines that probably shouldn't be crossed. I think that's where it becomes unhealthy. I believe that some fans are just very bad at relationships. They go all-in, up to their necks and then delude themselves into thinking that they and Bioware are soul-mates or something. And then on top of that it's the internet, where people will say and do things they never would in real life purely because of their 'anonymity'. Both of those combined can make for some 'bunny boiler' moments, which naturally sours the relationship for BW. Edit: And leaves the rest of the fanbase cringing in embarrassment/sympathy.

Halloween Name @mamaneeda I had a weird nap dream where after what happens with Solas, Flemeth's... essence finds Hawke in the fade and uses her as a vessel... Cori Nicole @genevrael The best of all possible worlds. Halloween Name @mamaneedaI know right? It would never happen, as I always leave Stroud. 😂 Cori Nicole @genevraelYeah I could never leave Hawke because Varric's sad face would kill me forever. Also I love Hawke so much it's practically a romance. Well, Hawke did think the dragon trick was awfully nifty... A few pages late, but just imagine the explosions she could accomplish as Flemythawke... It would rival Michael Bay. userWhat are people's favorite: "Wow, I didn't know I could do that!" moments in a game? seb hanlon @hanlspI love showing people that you can parry dragon fireballs with the Knight-Enchanter magic sword ability in DAI userWhy was I not told this. seb hanlon @hanlspBecause it was very late when we implemented it and we were all very tired ____________________________ WHAT. I gotta try this! I've used Cassandra's shield wall to deflect energy balls, but never the KE sword. Always learning new stuff. lol Hmm...what brought that on? It's from this post, which was a reply to Mike's thread on cutscenes...Michael LoCoco @michaellococowiDA4 will be horrible confirmed!!! Mike "Afraid"law @mike_LaidlawSee, this is just the kind of positive, uplifting comment I love to see in my timeline. Thanks, Michael. You're the LoCoco-est. - Michael LoCoco was only joking, but Mike didn't know that and called him out in a retweet. Mike had some other comments on this as well, but it was more about the specific incident.
.... OK, well I think that was more Laidlaw's problem than "LoCoco". Cus the tone in that tweet, especially when you look at it as part of the comment chain, is pretty clearly teasing. And I can tell that without having an "intimate" relationship with LoCoco-est Michael. Dunno why Mark is chiming in and making it a Thing. If Mike misunderstood the guy, that's on him. Acknowledge it or don't(no one cares) and move on.

There's been a number of depressing no-context tweets from them over the last little while. I thought at first it might have been due the political climate of late, but I'm beginning to think something "not good" may have happened with the team.

Honestly, I think I prefer to have NPCs mention your class (and specializations) more often than to see it on cinematic cutscenes. I'm hoping for the abolition of classes altogether, which will make this issue moot as a bonus. Skills ftw! Besides, the job does not my character make. If it was a universe where everyone can carry the exact same skill sets, then I'd agree, but in DA and ME, that doesn't work because some simply have this innate ability. I rather enjoy if my mage character is treated a bit differently on account of being a mage.

This was why the class fluidity, including the biotics, in MEA struck me as so weird before launch. I'm still playing the game, and its still kinda weird.

Maybe the climate exacerbated some frustrations. It was a really crappy week after all, at least for those following news. And it isn't the first time where they seem to be on the edge, for whatever reason. I suppose it may just be game development thing - this occupation seems periodically stressful as heck, no matter which stage they are. Hopefully this won't be happening very often.

And as midnight tea points out, it could very well be the usual pains studios run into in game development.

Love is real. All this to say: If you haven't played them, Analog: A Hate Story and Hate Plus are amazing takes on visual novel format. And you can bake a cake for an achievement. AND THEN YOU GET TO EAT THE CAKE ace but spooky👻 @mari_shepardwho wrote "he wishes he hadn't meant it" about Dorian's dad? Because damn that's some masterfully efficient storytelling. Mike "Afraid"law @mike_LaidlawAnything said by Cole is pretty much @patrickweekes I guess no one is going to tell her that Netflix & Chill is an euphemism for a booty call?

Hrungr, you're making me worried! Not that they will ever see it, but thank you Bioware for creating what for me are the best video games ever. You've given me, and continue to give me, a lot of joy with your content. Thank you! Honestly, it's nothing more than a gut feeling right now, so I could be completely off-base. And as midnight tea points out, it could very well be the usual pains studios run into in game development. The 'Afraid Law' name change is making me a bit nervous. Afraid of announcing something we all may not be excited about? I really, really hope they do not swerve us about DA.
