Leliana knows a lot of what happened in Masked Empire. Ya, the private moments like Gaspard threatening to murder Celene on the spot (in the woods on a hunt) if she doesn't agree to marry him may be known to only the two of them, but the Burning of Halamshiral is known to both Leliana and Josephine (and probably every city elf both sides of the Frostbacks). They had plenty of time to explain things, and they either completely omit, or barely mention, huge Orlesian political events. And the mass murdering events that led to the Conclave are also well known. And the fact that Tranquility can be reversed was telegraphed by crystal to literally every tower and part of the rebellion reasons should definitely be known to a human circle mage Inky.
So ya, the little private personal stuff I very much agree shouldn't be known. But I'm not talking about that.
Not sure what’s the problem then? If we read the book and gain additional insight that we then want to at least partially implant in our Inky... we can just headcanon that additional conversations with Leli or her spies had occurred. It ain’t that complicated.
That wasn't the argument you literally just quoted/made. You said, "my characters wouldn't know it anyway, therefore the novels are unnecessary."
I just gave three examples of information your character should know but they are: ignored entirely (the Templar Order slaughtering Mage Enchanters wholesale which caused the war), rehashed and submitted as new knowledge (re: tranquility), or minimalized to a minor event barely mentioned (re: Halamshiral Massacre).
This isn't about Roleplay for me, this is about important information about the characters and events of a game world that should be IN the game world.
Vegan, Year 1 of Med School. Zevran, Fenris, Cullen, and Thane.
There is an conversation between a Tranquil NOC and Mother Giselle where they discuss the cure for Tranquility.
There is also a side quest in the Western Approach where you find a report by the Chantry agents sent to observe Pharamond at Adamant, as well as another report by the mages who were spying on them.
Which just makes it more amusingly sad that Cassandras personal quest is about how her Entire Order has been maintaining a like for centuries as if she's just learned this. Was SHE out of the loop or what.
Anyway. I've been going on off topic too long. I'm shushing myself now.

Non-public figure @proudofalltweet I really loved all the Dragon Age novels, and am disappointed that the community doesn’t know them as well as they should. But I also understand it, because so much of the best stuff in the novels (including Last Flight) is just ignored by the games!
Why is that?
David Gaider @davidgaider Because most of the team doesn't know or care what's in the novels either, and what goes into the game isn't up to one person (whereas it is, for the novels).
Dumped, Drunk, and Dalish 🐺 ⬆️ @drunkdalish Wait... what? But... but... I've analyzed them all! I've assumed the novels were canon! I've... really? I need to lie down. I really need to lie down.
David Gaider @davidgaider They are canon insofar as the writers are concerned. All I'm saying is that's not going to dictate what makes it into a game, or how.

Well, yes, she was out of the loop. The higher-ups in the Seekers kept it a secret.
That’s what drove Lucius Corin crazy, y’know. When he was promoted to High Seeker, he learned all their dirty secrets and it pushed him over the edge.
Do not trust to hope. It has forsaken these lands.

I remember there being a couple of contests where you could win these, but I don't think you can buy them.

I like that. I wonder if there's one for ME? I'd be tempted to get one with Harbinger. On the bottom would say ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL with his yellow eyes in the background. nice.

Except all the Towers knew about the Tranquility thing before he was even promoted.
Maybe there is something else in the book that actually made him go crazy but it's never told.

Cassandra isn't shocked that there is a cure for tranquility when she read the book, she already knows that, she's shocked that the seeker order already knew and had from the begining - the divine sending pharamond to figure out if there was a cure was unnecesary, but Justinia didn't know that because the seekers kept the secret. She was also shocked to find out that the process of becoming a seeker had made her tranquil temporarily.

You are entirely correct - that WASN'T the argument I was making. If you read what I actually said you'd spot that it states: "Realistically, none of the PCs (so far) would have ever known AS MUCH about the world or certain events than we do after playing other games or reading all the books/comics. Thus, any further insight PCs have, or choice they'd make that is not based just on what surrounds them, has to be headcanoned in one way or another."
In other words - it's perfectly congruent with what I said to you later.
So, my argument wasn't that they wouldn't know anything from previous events - just not as much. And any bits that we'd decide were within our PC's reach - we can headcanon as them getting better intel or having more substantial conversations with some NPCs or whatever. That is really the only way to realistically 'translate' our knowledge and reward ourselves with it in the playthrough. Anybody who didn't follow the series or read the books (or even a wikipedia) just wouldn't know about certain things and thus 'receive' only limited intel on whatever problem they have to tackle in the game. I'd say that's a fair exchange.

... I suddenly want a nug plushie with a green hat.
I ordered one of the war nug plushies when the Bioware Store was having its "shutting down" sale but was disappointed that it wasn't as plushy and soft as I was expecting/wanting it to be.
Cori Nicole @genevrael Thanks to @cablivingstone & @jaywatamaniuk, I have an @pancheers ringtone for my alarm clock, but sometimes that means lying in bed waiting for it so I can hear Solas talk to me before I get up.
A.R.M.Y KH @run_BTS_ARMY I take it that people were having fun naming that spider 😂😂😂 #DragonAge @patrickweekes
Patrick Weekes @patrickweekes So wonderful designer @jharacampbell is incredibly patient and agreed to implement my “each of the little spiders in the Fade is named after someone’s greatest fear, including the writer’s” idea.
Eℓσqυєηт, Mу Dєαr. @eloquentmydear I have an unrelated question, if I may. I saw that you and @patrickweekes created the Adoribull relationship through character roleplay and was wondering, who was responsible for the first kiss, Dorian or Bull? I hope your migraine improves soon, I know the pain well :'(
David Gaider @davidgaider I don’t recall us ever taking the role play in that direction. 🤔
Eℓσqυєηт, Mу Dєαr. @eloquentmydear Ah, the source was wrong then! Thanks for answering! ♥️
David Gaider @davidgaider Err yeah. Someone got a bit imaginative, I think. 😅
Eℓσqυєηт, Mу Dєαr. @eloquentmydear Was your character roleplay more like the bantering that ended up in the game, then? Like "my door is always open"/"you are impossible!" and the suggestion about "last night"?
David Gaider @davidgaider Yes. We role played the banter. Not the relationship. 😀
