We have almost nothing on, wield puny weapons and only a few abilities and no perks unlocked - it can really be a chore. |

For me no boss fight was harder than 1 non-boss encounter. Sha-Brytol Bolters. They HURT so much the first time I met them on nightmare.

The Envy demon and the intro Pride demon both have the same trick, which is to hug the column(s). For the Pride demon, that significantly reduces your reachability with the whip, and for Envy it makes it tough for him to materialize under you.
It’s also a good trick when fighting the rift outside Redcliffe with Trials on. Promoted demons often get the terror demon ability of popping up under you, but they’re not allowed to pop through things like fence posts. Jump onto the fence outside Redcliffe, and they have to walk (uhhh, slide) up to you instead.

I actually find the Envy Demon tougher than Haven, though Haven is no cakewalk.
The Envy fight sure as heck glitches a lot more, which definitely makes it tougher. That's the first place I encountered the stick figure (T-pose) bug, on my 2d PT.
Hardest for me on NM the first time around were the Terrors in Fallow Mire and Gurd in JoH.
