I'm actually torn on how to respond on this because it was so devastating but so flawlessly conceived.
I love that we told him to stay loyal to the Qun... and he did. And then we paid for that arrogance (and so did he).
It's like a bomb that took two years to detonate.

Folks ask for choices with significant lasting consequences, and I do my best to make that happen, and then people get mad. So confusing!

(But yes, not a lever we pull too often, because that’s not really what most players WANT from a game. DAII has followers who could turn against you. Mass Effect didn’t — at least not as far as actually fighting you. Tali and Mordin showed their disagreement less directly...)

Wait, I guess in ME3, you could have had to fight Jack and Morinth! Both were pretty Easter-eggy, and neither was doing it voluntarily out of direct disagreement with your decisions, but they were in there.

Oh, and LEGION! Same scene as Jack, I think. That absolutely got to me too. And we could've ended up shooting all sorts of ME companions (I never did).

Our writing teams are between 5-10 people, so once something — a follower arc, a big major mission — is done, the other writers read through (ideally play through) and give feedback. We call it a narrative peer review.
