I decided to try hosting a game, instead of joining the PUGs. I expected it would take very little time, since when I join a game, I pop into a lobby immediately.

But trying to host, I just keep waiting for people to join... Seemingly forever.

If you start a lobby by yourself it seems to put you at the literal back of the line before somebody joins. I tried again today and sat in the lobby for 30 minutes and never had another player join.

Had a buddy with me and we still sat for 15 min with no luck had to split up and quick match by ourselves. :angry:

There's been a theory for ME3MP that people looking for games were thrown into GamesInProgress rather than filling free slots in waiting lobbies..., that may be the reason why.
I think there are very few MPers at the moment (not all of them even have the game *gnrrrrrrr*), since those who own it, may play the SP first. The few ones playing MP are thrown into GIPs. Well, that's my theory...

Or maybe they screwed up matchmaking... but i can't imagine that...

Yeah I get that all the time on ME3MP, sit in a lobby forever and no one joins, sometimes an hour or more. Start solo, then Wave 3 magically fills up with pugs every time.

Really seems like something triggers a high priority fill for a GiP.

Yes. There are many great features, but things that worked fine in ME3MP, like matchmaking, peer to peer, and sound, are broken.

When everything is working, it is great. But when it isn't, you just scratch your head and wonder how they could go backwards.

Same thing happened to my buddy and I. We simply wanted to play a few games together. Tried to host, nobody joined. It's definitely broken. It's unfortunate that things like this are what people see first in a game and are part of why it's getting such mixed reviews.

I'd say it has to do with NAT and firewall. ME3 had a couple of UDP ports that had to be open so people could join your lobby. For MEA, the list of ports is very large and not very well specified (I saw information on 3 different sites that gave different requirements).
