So I started a new game with a new Sara Ryder a couple of days ago but due to the letdown that was the no dlc announcement I struggled to get started. Anyway I finally found some momentum yesterday, having already done the monoliths and vault on EOS I did all the quests I could quests on the Nexus, went back to EOS and did the clue section of naughty Nilken's murder investigation and then headed for Aya. Did the meet and greet with Evfra, picked up the Voeld missing cargo mission and got the Relic mission from the lovely Avela Kjar. A bit annoyed that females can't romance her, although this play through I am trying really hard not to romance anyone other than PeeBee. It was tough to not flirt with Kerri!!!!!! So to Havarl, got reminded I am a fish with a gem in my mouth, freed some scientists, found some Turians, collected some plants and Hops and scanned a rock or two. Next up I am off to seek some sage advice!!!!

Loaded up ME:A for about 5 minutes, killed about 10 Kett and got bored. Went to Xenoblade Chronicles X afterwards.

I've reached the final push, stopping at an Autosave aboard Tempest, just before heading to Meridian. I'd love to have finished, but my wife needs to sleep.
I completed Liam's romance, for the first time, and was pretty impressed. He's still a goon, but I got out of this exactly what I'd hoped. The romance arcs often let you get to know the characters in a different way. I definitely like Liam better, now. He cops to being a goon who tries too hard with a romanced Sara; and his jump-jet date was brilliant. I'm glad that I stayed the course with this romance arc.
I enjoyed Movie Night, as always. I know that the "cool kids" like to dog this scene, but I really like it. I laugh multiple times, every time.
I realized, as I drew close to the end of this PT, how much I really do like this crew. They're all well developed and likeable. I believe that they'd have become a very strong cast over the course of more games. I hope we get to see the Ryders and crew in future games. It looks poorly now, but maybe in time...
I've enjoyed this Sara more than any other Ryder, so far (5th full PT). I still prefer Scott's VA and writing, but I'm really attached to these twins. It's been a lot of fun to jump back into MEA with them.

Edit: melbella, I got impatient and just watched YouTube. It's not drastically different, but I like it with the interrupt. It seemed more in-character for these two, as I've played them.

The combat is like the Batman/ shadow of middle earth style. It's Ok, can be a bit button mashy but does have depth if you look for it as you can design your own combos. The story is actually quite interesting so far (about 12% through), certainly a novel setup. I got it for £6 on steam and at that price it's well worth it. There's no character customisation or dialogue choices, it's strictly cutscenes then onto the next bit.

I finished my PT a short while ago. I'll post a few thoughts that I had as I tied up loose ends, read emails, etc... I spent a lot of time revisiting my thoughts on the jardaan and their creations during this PT. I think the DLC announcement and a BSN thread in which we were sharing our speculations made me think all the more about it. I really hope this story isn't finished. It has so much potential. It honestly has far more going for it, in terms of depth, than the reaper story did. That story had the extra burden of introducing us to everything, and setting expectations. This story can spend that time developing threads. Anyway, here we go... * Dr. Carlyle mused on the similarity of the vaults' purge system and the safety nets built into nearly every advanced civilization's military weapons projects. He asks whether it's even likely that the vaults were civilian. I suspect he's correct that these vaults did not have a purely altruistic design, weren't without risks, and required safeguards. I've speculated that the angara were not designed for the sake of creating new life, but as an extension of the jardaan. bshep and I talked about it recently. Could the jardaan have been building an army? If so, imagine a war on that timescale-- one that allows for growth of star clusters of worlds and populations. * Ai security teams discuss the information encoded into angaran DNA. They ask whether the angara could "remember" how to operate Meridian. This leads them to the question of whether this tech would resume teaching them. Are they already being "taught"? Could Meridian create an army of sleeper agents among the angara? This goes well with the previous idea, and could make for an interesting complication. * Dr. P'lina leads the Archon's autopsy. She says that the Archon wasn't killed by physical trauma alone. Operating remnant tech seems to require projection of one's consciousness. He was severed from himself, she says. If she's correct, does this mean that his consciousness could still be "alive" somewhere within Meridian? Pair that with Meridian "building an army" by training angara, and that could be really bad. * Tig Velan, an Ai tech, is working on translating remnant data. S/he suspects that "even the jardaan were concerned about Meridian". S/he follows with, "partial translations only provoke [additional] concerns". I feel like a sinister picture is taking shape. * And some of my own speculation that isn't based upon in-game data. We rightly use "jardaan" to refer to the creators of the remnant and angara. We shouldn't assume that the jardaan are a species, though. They could be a faction within a larger group, as the roekarr are to the angara. The jardaan seem to be one side of a conflict. Who knows how vast the conflict is, or what the stakes are? What happens if they realize that we've moved into the cradle of "all the works of the jardaan"? Humanity could be back into the fire very quickly, seeing as Meridian has become our "homeworld", of sorts. I have a lot of other stuff bouncing around my head, but that is enough for this post. I agree the potential for any future sequel is great and I particularly love the thought of the Jardaan ringing Meridian's doorbell and saying we're back!!!!!

So didn't get to play much yesterday, damn you real life!!!!! So sought out the sages of doom on Min.... oh you all know the big tower thing, found the glove of love, gave it to Taavos and went and reset the vault. Spoke to Evfra on the Tempest, went back to Havarl and communicated via vide to Addison then went dinosaur hunting. Killed some more Roekaar, gathered some info and gave it to two very excited scientists. Now, back to Eos to tie up loose ends.

Ok, finished the main arc of my 5th run today. My quickest so far. 23.5 hours, 44% completion. The last few runs took roughly 8-12 hours more until that point (completing Meridian). Did only the side quests that seemed important at the moment for my Ryder/the Initiative which at least lead to the outpost on Eladaan, none of the vaults after Eos, none of the loyalty missions other than the Asari Ark, didn't set foot on H047-c yet - so I played a Ryder that was very committed to finding Meridian, because he thought that way would present the best opportunity for the Initiative to succeed. Kept going with Annihilation field, Lance and Energy drain for the whole run. Combined with a Dhan (which is soooooo glorious) and our old Black Widow that was one fun run. Energy drain, two biotic explosions and a few rounds out of my Dhan were able to kill an Ascendant on Insanity in one run before he could put up his orbs again. That was satisfying! On the other hand compared to all my runs before it was THE most squishy character I played yet. Felt like having to reload at some points (I'm looking at you Merdian Architect) more than I did in the whole fourth run, where everything felt soooo easy using tactical cloak, incinerate and energy drain. Might have something to do with the passives not being maxed out in this rather quick run though, so I would definitely run the setup again... If someone would ask me, why do I come back playing this game - though I don't like the overall tone (which is too light IMO) and the dialogue writing can be cringe worthy at times - my answer would be this: besides some problems I would call the "in between game", the game delivers some of THE best ME missions of all time with "Hunting the Archon", "The journey to Meridian" and "Meridian: the way home". Those three (or two if you count the last two as MEA's final) rival to me my top trio out of ME1 "Noveria: Peak 15/Matriarch Benezia", "Virmire" and the Ilos/Citadel final and might round out my top six behind ME2's suicide mission. The journey to Meridian is especially good. BTW, it has the perfect atmospheric music: On a sidenote: of course this run had again some funny moments. Speaking of squishy: you know that it is too cold on Voeld to stay outside the Nomad, right? It worked still fine though: BTW: Captain Dunn thought I was rushing too quickly through the problems in Heleus. But of course she survived. Now I still have five loyalty missions (which feel more like post-game content to me, because they have nothing serious to them) I could do, the vaults/remnant tiller on four planets (or are they closed now?), the architects, the two Kett command centers on Eos and Voeld, the exploration on Havarl and H047c... So I think I might take a little break, but then come back to play some of the remaining stuff. Scott Ryder signing off with a reminder: no matter how bad things look...

Oh and in case someone is searching for the perfect ambient music on H047c: while searching for the Khi Tasira combat music I stumbled about this. Named as "Eos Vault Ambient", but it is exactly what we hear when exploring on H047c.

And now it's time for Eos I never use default Sara, even as a sibling. My custom characters look much more lifelike. I started, and then deleted, three separate Scotts, yesterday. I have a pair of twins that I love, with which I just completed a Sara PT. Scott has a bad case of "old, shiny face" as the protagonist, though. It's annoying as hell, since he's supposed to be 22yo, and otherwise looks incredible. Sigh. This is why I always end up using Brewis-Scott, though he too has "old shiny face". I'm thinking of going more "pure shooter", this time around. It's something I've not yet done on MEA. In this game, with combat powers oft running on cells instead of cooldowns, it takes on greater significance. My pure shooter will actually use Tactical Cloak, Turbocharge and Assault Turret/Invasion as its actives. This is my boss killer build, but I've never used it for an extended period of time. It takes a long time to come online, since Turbocharge and Assault Turret are each locked behind a 9 Skill Points barrier. I'll get my 9 combat skills via Combat Fitness, which is important, anyway. A weapon passive is also important. Once the excellent passives and preferred actives are maxed, then I finally start branching out into alternate builds. One fun element is that Tactical Cloak remains my only active for quite some time. This makes battlefield positioning and melee attacks all the more important, since I have a compromised loadout. It adds a bit more tactical challenge to a game I've grown used to stomping. I hadn't played since May 21, prior to my Sara PT (I've completed 5 100% PTs), and my last 2 PTs had been NG+. I am now reminded how thoroughly trash the Nomad is upon receipt. I've always thought that it's baseline performance should've been better. It's annoyingly poor; and upgrading it is a costly, long term process, so Eos is a rough ride. Speaking of R&D, I generally don't do any until I can access level 5 gear. I rely on my powers to see me through with whatever trash equipment I find, along with the ugly Deep Space Explorer (or Ai Recon) armor. The armor gives an XP boost, so I get to those levels more quickly. Still, good weapons are more important for a shooter-primary build, so I'm wondering how long I can make the starter gear and RNGs work. Most low-capacity weapons don't work all that well with Turbocharge, at least as a primary. That means I will likely have to commit to an R&D compromise pretty early (X5 Ghost or M25 Hornet?), and just save my more preferred R&D (Valkyrie) for a NG+. My posts are leaning a bit more toward crunch, of late. I've already done the "story updates" thing for several PTs. I find that all PTs look very similar, so I don't feel motivated to post in the same style, for now. The original "What did you do...?" thread has the advantage of drawing upon an entire trilogy with myriad scenes and variables. Off to see about another Scott, I guess. I strongly prefer his writing and VA, but have an easier time crafting a Sara in whom I can get invested. Sigh. First-world problems.

Just got killed for the -- fourth? fifth? -- time on Remove the Heart. Playing this mission on a real difficulty level has revealed serious deficiencies with my playstyle.

I've been creating and abandoning Ryders of each gender for several hours. The CC options are really feeling like handcuffs, today.
I hate that eyebrows are part of the facial texture, and therefore neither selectable nor available for color-changes. Those red eyebrows on option 10 completely ruin so many concepts for Sara. Only a few hair colors go with them, and they look like shite on my concepts.
I hate that Scott generally looks as old and weathered as a 52 year old, rather than fresh and youthful like a 22yo. Some textures are less shiny and wrinkled than others, but only the red-head is truly youthful in appearance. Sadly, that's not one I'm interested in using (see eyebrow rant above). The asians also look young, I guess, but I've already done that, previously.
I'm disappointed that Alec's head morph isn't selectable. Maybe it would ruin the big reveal on an initial PT? That's the only slight negative that I can see. There are so many cool Alecs that are linked to head morphs I'll never use for my protagonist. I never get "black dad" for my characters, for instance, because I don't like those head morphs. I end up with half-black/mixed-ethnicity twins with an Indian (or whatnot) looking dad. He's only in a few scenes, but it's ridiculous looking. If I weren't so lazy, I'd post some humorous screen shots of Alec with child in the shuttle bay. He's supposed to look similar to Scott, at least, but isn't close when I create black characters. Sigh.
I hate that Cassidy Shaw's hairstyle isn't available for Ryder. It's like they go into each ME game with the intent to deny us one desirable hair option. That one would be my preferred option, more times than not. Why is it not available? Would it clip with helmets? If so, how did they make the other options, like messy bangs and ponytail work? Ugh. Frustrating. There are so few textures/options for non-white/asian Ryders. (At least some asians were finally included as an option!)
These type of gripes aren't unique to MEA. BioWare sort of sucks at CCs. As it is, I may not start a new PT (for now), since I can't manage to get invested in any of my Ryders.
Edit: I may have found an acceptable combo for Scott. He's not exactly the character I'd hoped to play, but he's close. Again, the eyebrows and available skin colors being linked to specific textures is frustrating. Ditching the "old man face" meant accepting a slightly different eyebrow and skin color than I'd wished. At least my above rants did inspire my current attempt at Scott Ryder. I'll see how he looks in-game, momentarily.

Yeah it really makes creating a male Ryder hard, I have played through the game nine times and I have been happy with my 5 female Ryders but only once with my 4 male Ryders. I started using mods but they are for the majority Sara mods so didn't help with Scott. I think I got my best result for Scott by choosing default and then changing to custom and customising default Scott. One of my Scott's (the 3rd) I accidentally created the guy who picks the fight with you in Drack's barfight mission. Sorry not the best pic but all I could find:
