My refund apparently didn't register. It's as if my pc wants me to keep playing, and alas I've spent the last 6 hours on it.
The game has issues, no doubt, but the more I get into the thick of it the more it starts to resonate and one thing I noticed right from the start that undeniably works, and still does, is how the 3D space you walk around in, in this game, feels about as good as in Witcher 3 and probably also Horizon (haven't played it). Jumping adds to it, no doubt but Inquisition has jumping too, so how come I find this better? I think BioWare has created much more texture and physique to the world itself as well as atmosphere than in any other game except maybe ME1 at times. NPC behavior is much better than it's ever been. Despite a few people bolted into the ground in the typical BioWare style any moving NPCs actually seem to move properly and not completely scripted (and broken) like in Inquisition. For example, if I run into an Asari on the nexus who's going my way, she just moves around me. It feels like the place isn't dead.
They've added the same flavors to the planets after you inhabit them with an outpost of people. Shuttles fly back and forth to create a sense of "stuff goes on here" and it works. It also helps that finally, we get cutscenes in these types of areas, so all of this is pretty darn good, and it adds to it that you can climb up on things even on the Nexus when the game is technically in "casual" mode where there's no shooting to be had. It's a very sensibility-thing but I greatly appreciated this aspect of the game.
And for the record this is where Mass Effect 2 and 3 fell short (especially 3). Everything, even when they tried to simulate squad moving around felt so stiff and lifeless and prescripted. In this game, the squad on the Tempest atctually walk around in their respective rooms and frequently change between missions and unlike ME3 I don't think it's always dependant on which mission you just did previously.

I love it too.
I want it in a next game. Just a.. next game that isn't so 'UNC' (Uncharted Worlds). Like a DA4, I want a change to something more urban.
And I can still go into more 'first/closer person' mode when I have my gun out, when I scan things (still loving it, at least on first playthrough), zoom in.

Yeah the attention to detail in some areas is really nice. I would to have a hybrid/balance but I feel like we'll get some of that here. They just won't be open world areas. Having a mini open world map in a city would be cool, but I'm also still on Eos after playing since launch at midnight

Its a shame no review i've read mentioned the world building. It is amazing, maybe the best Bioware has ever done. They've thought of pretty much everything needed to make the world feel populated in a realistic way. There is this thing that always should be asked when it comes to world building "what do they eat". Showing that food and water is so important and mentioned often and given attention to is great. Item placement is also well done, and especially on the Tempest. I love the Normandy, but it wasn't until Mass Effect 3 i felt people actually lived on the ship, on the Tempest its from the moment you get it. So many details, its all so well done.
The people that worked on this aspect of the game deserves major props for oustanding worldbuilding, which is very important in such a game. To bad it lacks such polish in so many other aspects.
