So does getting duplicates auto promote without the grinding? I noticed a few of my guns and characters are rank 2 already

We are talking promoting charcters here as in "reach level 20 with a character, hit "promote", get xApexPoints, character is reset to lvl 1".
I think you're talking about levelling-up: Yes, guns gain one level-up, when you find the card again. That stops if you hit lvl 10 with that gun and you won't find that card again. Same appllies to characters. Once you find the same character card again maybe it will lvl up (depends on lvl you are) and you will get some(?) extra skill points. This happens up to (?) five times.

Good. I never liked the promotion system anyway. With how hard it is to level up characters, the fewer reasons for promoting, the better. So much this. I never promoted characters, it was too tiresome to start back to level 1.

This is one thing I feel they did right, it would have been an enormous pain if you were forced to promote to continue getting prestige bonuses. I never would have done it.
Also, I've had several respec cards drop for me thus far so it's quite nice to know that they are there and not exceedingly rare, because the skill tree learning curve is there/not like it was in me3mp. Recharge bonuses are a legitimate choice now. ><

All I wanna do is get max skill points as well as maxed guns and characters. Do I have to hit lvl 20 and start over again to achieve this?

No. A unlocking all the character cards from the RNG pacls is necessary for maximum skill points, promoting does not affect this. Guns are likewise unlocked. Gear is the exception, as they are purchased with mission funds, which are earned from Apex missions. Experience toward prestage bonuses is still counted once you hit level 20, so no need to promote for that either.

Ok so guns, mods and characters are powered up through crates, getting duplicates right? So do they all max out at 10 (x)?

Nope. Was trying to get rid of the three preset points on my new SalInf and used a respec card. And there i was with one point in each of first three skills again. Edit: This happened in the 10-hour trial, i think the "real" game will handle things similar. I can confirm the 3 initial points remain even after a respec - I used one yesterday Just for the record: Promoting (i think the button reads "reset") a lvl 20 character doesn't do that either . on a side note: Does anyone know for sure how many respec cards they have? Or: Where is the amount of respec cards displayed?
