I really enjoy the game. I just want to experience the story.
But I can't leave the planets before fixing their vaults! but on my way to fix vaults I do hours of side missions.
But I just want to do the story.
Please help.

Well....some of the vaults are required to progress through the story. Peebee's in Eos, for example. However, and note I've only progressed to Havarl, most of the vaults can safely be ignored if you just want the critical path.

But I just want to do the story. Please help. Did you check your journal? The quests listed in the top are the main quest. Only do those quests and you'll be on your way. I believe there are very few side quests needed to move the story forward. Honestly, though, your world will likely turn out better if you invest in it. You don't need to do things like "plant these three hammers around Eos" type things, though the outcome of that is pretty freaking cool. I like the experiences, something I don't get when I skip everything that makes the game worthwhile. |

Do these quests play into the critical path or the ending? I may come back and do most of it after but it seems empty if I just rush through

Some do, some don't. However, I role play when playing the game. That means that quests are "important" if they make planets more inhabitable or get more people out of stasis.
